My build up thread!
Thought I'd chime in and give props! Your car is turning out beautiful and I think you're doing great work. I will hopefully be doing some of my body work on my FD soon! Keep up the good work!

thanks for the props man!!
today i sanded the headlight covers, hood scoop and the drivers door. i just repeated the same procces as with everything else.
i decided to mock up the scoop and covers to see how it looks since the hood was installed. i figured id snap a pic while i was at it!
also, today i ordered a aerosal can of paint stripper made for plastic bumpers. the rear bumper has cracked paint and i figured this was the easiest way to take care of it.
heres the pic

Hood looks bent at the LH headlight cover area? Good work man.. I'll be applying my final coat of primer tonight and wet-sanding to perfection. Then my spoiler, hood, headlight covers, sunroof piece, and rear hatch will be ready for sealer/paint/clear.
Where are you on the rest of the car... It looks like you are kinda doing engine and paint at the same time.... how far are you on the engine?

nah, the headlight needs adjusted is all. i knew it would stick out like this. i just mocked it up. the headlight cover actually sinks in on that corner. nuthin but loosening a bolt and raising it up wont fix
the motor is already built in shortlblock form. im still buying parts every paycheck trying to get it done before snowfall!! thats my biggest let back! i still need a downpipe, CAT, couple gaskets, new injector clips, shims for new waterpump. finish polishing the LIM, waterneck and waterpump housing.
after paint:
install haltech E6K and wire it up
finish battery relocation
install interior
install motor and trans
im almost on the home stretch!!
this prep work for the paint is a PITA!
once im over this hump and its all downhill from there!!
i still have the passenger door, bumpers, mirrors and wing to prime then i can shoot color. im HOPING labor day weekend itll be colored!!
i have 3 days of so i have lots of time to put into it

Oh my god it actually is a car!!
Good work man. It'll be pounding the pavement before ya know it.
Try to get it colored before snowfall. You can do the rest while it's snowing outside.Your garage has a door don't it?
You can put a kerosene heater in there to keep ya warm. That's what I'd be doing if I had a garage. Hell yah buddy

yesterday i started stripping the rear bumper. it was cracked (the paint) so bad i had no choice but to remove all the paint. so i bought this.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=009
it works VERY well...i started using a rag and found it doesnt remove the paint very well so i used a razor blade. if your CAREFUL it will remove the paint with EASE and not scratch up the plastic. i found some strange marks in the bumper and i guess i need to fill these in some how. what do you use for plastic filler anyway!?
heres some pics....

heres a pic of it about 50% done....it will need cleaned up and such but its coming along well!

so i have been busy.....the passenger door is ready to be primed. the front bumper has been stripped and primed with a flexible primer...its ready to be wet sanded...the rear bumper has been giving me most trouble. it seems the paint stripper inst quite up to the task of getting all the gel coat off the bumper. so in order to do this its being sanded...then it can be primered and wet sanded....i then need to get some 3M tape to attach the moldings and i can finally paint! think itll be done by monday nite!?!?!?!...hmmmmm.....tune in and see!!

so while i took a break i snapped the pics i promised....here is the bumper to show what im dealing with. i just finished priming the door and mirrors with my high build primer and snapped these shots....
this is the gel coating i was talking about....looks pretty bad!!

this is the front bumper primed with a flexible primer awaiting for a sanding to get it smooth....

this bumper gave me alot less headache than the rear....i ALMOST took the front bumper, rear and moldings off my other S4 because i was so frustrated at it!!! but i think nuthing is better than the stock S5 bumper!!! of course you cant throw a S5 up front and use S4 moldings and rear bumper on the rest of the car!!!
so i stuck to my guns and now im going back outside to sand that rear bumper while the other pics load (dial up)...stay tuned!!!

For a cheap-o paint. I really dig that cross-fire stuff.. WAY better than PPG's OMNI series. But, the GOOD martin senior paint isn't as good as deltron 2000 from PPG... But.. for single stage... I'd go crossfire/napa.
