I recently got the parts manual for the 1981 mazda rx7 because I need to rebuild a carb and I might be missing a few things like washers and bolts. I want to be pretty close to OEM and all that.
Here is the page in the manual where my question comes from. This is page 20 of the Engine Parts Manual on Foxed.co if anyone is wondering
It says "refer to the wall chart" but that doesn't exist on the document so where would I find this chart for the standard part codes???
I called a local mazda dealership parts department and he knew what I was talking about but not about the chart, he said it was on a film or something I don't remember. He basically told me he just memorized the code after being there for awhile.
Let me give you an example which he did confirm is correct.
992220612
The first nine we can ignore, they all start with that. 9222 is the code for a bolt, while 0612 is the size of the bolt. 06mm diameter and 12 mm length with standard pitch length of 1mm I guess.
But what about for a washer or a small gasket? He didn't know for the sizing exactly so I'm wondering if anyone knows this information!
I could be wrong, but I thought @j9fd3s did a breakdown of the bolts and part numbers and how to interpret those numbers. I just can't find the thread.

You might mean this one. It contains a wealth of information about Mazda parts but the hardware talk begins at post #20.
So I also scrolled through the thread past 20 but essentially he mentioned the same thing I did but I'm not seeing in the thread where I can enter that information and figure out what the rest of the codes are. Sorry for my ignorance here

There isn't any place to look them up except in the Mazda software. With that said, the newest Mazda parts software stopped cataloging parts before 1986. Most of the nut, bolts, etc were never available via Mazda parts.

Yeah that's the conclusion I also came to. The only way I've found to do this is to find the microfilm or poster that they have in dealerships that tells you the codes. Or just a picture of it. I'll see what I can come up with

i'm not sure what you're trying to do, but the end of the microfische is an index by part number, and since its just in number order the standard stuff is together.
it works best if you're trying to put the car together, and you're not sure what fastener you're supposed to use, you can look it up, and then de-code the number figure it out that way

That's exactly my use-case. I recently got an 81 rx7 and it was sold to me with the Carb completely disassembled and put in an open top box. As far as I can tell I have most if not all of the carb parts but I'm sure I'm missing a few washers or bolts as they are just all over the car unorganized. I want to basically rebuild this carb really close to OEM but I have no idea what bolts, washers, screws, etc I would need size wise. I'm a complete amateur since this is my first project car so I guess I'm trying to learn how people find things out without just consulting a manual/part list or just having years of experience and knowledge.
You can still find carbs being sold, that you can cannibalize parts from and / or see how it goes together. No magic shortcuts in vintage sports cars.
Yeah that's becoming the reality here, but it seems like a big ol' waste of money to buy a carb just for the bolt sizes when someone on the internet probably knows them or can look at theirs

Thanks!
its a bummer because the carb pics in the parts manual are really bad.
but pretty much for the rest of the car, you can look up something, get the part number, and figure out what it is. its just that the carb picture is really tough
