King N00b needs some walkthroughs...
Hey folks...
My car is kicking my ***. I've done search after search, seen a wealth of technical and useful information, even diagrams that are hand-drawn works of art. I go to my to car to look, and no such thing. When they write these things out they don't draw the viper pit that surrounds everything, and the 20+ years of God-knows what that's accumulated on everything. Not to mention what's been done by previous owners...
I've posted various topics here and there inquiring as the locations of some things under the hood...
#1: Where is my OMP? I've gotten answers such as, "Passenger side, front cover" or "follow the OMP lines" Well, the only thing I see when I look at my front cover is metal, no distinguishable part, and for the second answer, my OMP lines are melted off (I'm replacing them, which is why I need to know where the OMP is)
#2: Exactly what is the location of my engine's temp sending unit/sensor? I've been told, "Driver's side, rear iron, under the big head(that's the oil pressure sensor)"....yeah...like I know where that is...big...thing...yeah.
#3 The spigots that the OMP lines go on, I know are on the passenger side of the housings. But when I look, I see nothing of the sort. Just a big block with a metal shroud.
The problem is, is that I can't see through half of the bullshit that's underneath my hood, and since I can't rebuild one of these things with my genitalia while I'm blindfolded, I'm kind of on the low-end level of wherabouts when it comes to what's on the engine.
Rats nest removal? Please don't recommend it...I'm still trying to figure out where the hell my thermostat is....by the way....where is that??
Any help is greatly appreciated!
~Jerry

Took me a while but I used the search function and serached for "temp sender" and got:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ht=temp+sender
Which isn't the easiest thing to think of. I'll see if I can add a post to it with the words "sensor" and "gauge" in it to make it easier to find
I'll dig up pics of the rest for you later.

You found the search button, but you can't read the Queen's english?
I asked nicely...I really did.

The MOP has a rod that connects it to the carb/throttle linkage. If you still can't find it, maybe the previous owner blocked the pump off and went to pre-mix?
The thermostat sits on top of the water pump. Just pull off your radiator hose and there it is

No, I don't think the previous owner did that. I was good aquaintances with him, and he said it still had the OMP. And thanks for the location of the thermostat!

Oh, Mazdo...This rod you're talking about, if I'm thinking of where I've been told the OMP goes, would this rod have to be at a 45 degree angle? Considering the carb is at the back of the engine, and the OMP is at the front...??? Forgive my stupidity

There are some pics courtesy of vipernicus. The rod has a bend in it, but I don't think it has too severe of an angle to the carb.

i think your biggest problem in locating the omp is that the air pump is in the way. if you look at the front of the engine where the belts are:
one loops around the bottom pulley (out of the two belts, this is the rearmost belt), goes up to the water pump pully, and at the top loops around the alternator, then back down to the main pulley.
the second, loops around the bottom pulley, then over towards the passenger side to the air pump, then to the water pump pulley and back down.
the third (if you have ac) goes over towards the drivers side to drive the compressor.
so you want to look down past the air pump (on the second belt) to find the omp. if you stood on the passenger side and looked straight at the air pump, its almost directly behind it down near the front bottom of the engine. its going to have two nipples (heh, nipples...) pointed towards the passenger side of the engine bay, and a connection for the rod controlled by the throttle shaft on the carb. that rod also has a small 90 deg. bend in it near the top.
hope this helps, someone correct me if anything is wrong.

Yes, if you follow that rod down the front of the engine, it will lead you straight to the OMP. The replacement lines can be kind of expensive though. I think some people have used a substitute material to make their own, but it has to be the right stuff or it will react with the oil.

Hopefully these help.
Undo the 2 bolts from pic 1, remove that elbow-pipe thing and you'll find the thermostat. Note: you should drain coolant first, or it will be a little messy.
In Pic 2 I point to my OMP. Now you didn't say which model of car you had but you said something about "bungs on the housings" which leads me to believe you have an -SE. The OMP is still on the front of the engine in exactly the same place, but if you have a GSL-SE, ignore pic #3 where I show where the OMP lines end at the carburetor.

Thanks, everyone...you guys have all been great help! By the way, Vipernicus... I have an '82. It's not a GSL or an -SE. Oh, and Kentetsu...Thanks for not verbally smacking me up, aye? You guys are awesome.
