They might have had some 4 seaters somewhere but are extremely rare so don't bother, the only really downsides to these cars is gas mileage and the engines will turn on you if you don't give it love i.e. take care of it properly. There is too much to love about these cars, I can talk all day about it. Get a Turbo II if your a speed junkie and don't mind doing some work now and again. Get a GTU or other NA if you just want to have some fun and have a more reliable car too.

rob1out,

Hey welcome to the forum.

You should stop by one of the local rx7 car meets and see what's around

Several of the 86-88's have a 2+2 option (small back seats that fold down).

Lots of advantages. The rx7s are build as uncomprimising sports cars. Mazda designed the chassis around the rotary engine to maximize it's effects. You get a stiff frame, lightweight car, advanced suspension (rear steer), low drag, 50/50/50/50 balancing, fast acceleration.. etc..

You get great looks, tight cornering, fast accelleration, stiff chassis, and a smooth ride. The car's handling is tight but forgiving. You can toss it around all day long

Add that to a engine that loves to be revved - and it all adds up to a smile behind the wheel

The NAs (non turbos) are all excellent cars. The GTU-S, convertible, GTU, Sport, and GXL are all great models.

The Turbo II is a SUPERCAR capable of 450+HP (mazda detuned to 200hp, but that's ez to fix ).

The rx-7 and rotaries have an internation following from manufacturers, tuners, and enthusiest. That means you have a WIDE selection of performance upgrades, bodykits, accessories, and OEM + aftermarket parts. These cars are well supported by mazda and manufacturers.

There's also ALLOT of information on maintaining, upgrading, and enhancing these cars.

Cons - you have to take care of the car and follow the maintenance. They will last so long as you care for her

Modding a Turbo II incorrectly can break the engine, so performance upgrades should be well planned.

Fuel economy is based on how heavy your foot is. It can be 17/19 or 19/23 depending on how you drive.

Advice.

On any model you choose, look for one with "low engine miles," "recently rebuild," or "new engine." This helps guarentee long engine life for you.

Always get a compression test done by the Mazda dealership on the engine. This helps avoid buying one the previous owner abused/neglected.

Most people pay a slight premium for an emaculent one with low engine miles OR buy one for dirt cheap with a blown engine and put one in themselves.

All in all, you normally get 200K-300K miles on the NAs, and 140-220K miles on the TIIs (depending on the year).

Any more questions?
