Running out of time before Seven Stock to get her ready so I took her to a mechanic to change the fuel filter and install the muffler. She still needs an alignment and I have 3 business days before I leave so cutting it close.

Hahahaha. Nice! I could of posted the same exact thing. I did all of the above plus a few more things. Alignment is gonna be cutting it close for me though, I went to get it done to find out my idler arm needs to be replaced first.

Picked up the car at the shop and drove it home. Waited for muffler to cool. Drove it to dinner and then some more. This is to bake the paint on the muffler. The out gassing paint isn't the worst smell in the world but I don't much like it. The car does feel stronger. That muffler was supposed to add 10HP if I remember correctly. Nice exhaust note. Today I made an appointment for Monday at my favorite alignment shop. Hoping there is nothing else wrong that needs replacing because that wont happen before this trip.

I don't feel comfortable taking her on the track especially since I want to drive her home so I am going to spectate this year. She isn't quite in good enough condition to go fast around corners (yet).
I will look for your car there. I will have the nearly stock Red GSL-SE.

Last night I painted my battery pedestal and put it on the shelf so that it won't rust anymore, replaced my busted *** antenna, got my first few coats of primer on the header panel project, and finished cleaning my big brake upgrade parts. Now I just need rims and se axles and I can install the new setup.

Hooked up a reasonable connector for the charger until I can get the charger mounted on the car. Swapped the glass sunroof (or is it a moon roof?) over to the GSL-SE for my trip to Seven Stock.

Pulled the wire on the Check lamp relay so the STOP LAMP idiot light doesnt come on when I step on the brake pedal. It was doing this because I changed out the brake lamps for LED's. I will detail this over on my LED thread. Sort of cleaned up some coffee that the PO had spilled on the carpet between the drivers seat and the emergency brake lever. I need a steam cleaner to do this right but I got most of it. Vacuumed the drivers and passenger side carpets. Lubed the roof raise mechanism. This didn't help as much as I had hoped. The **** bushing seems to be what is sticking. Checked the coolant level and temperature rating and I got a pretty good mix as it is good to -35F. I hope I don't have to drive it when it is that cold. Started fixing the shift boot. Looking for an adhesive that will stick to the rubber boot and the plastic surround. More tomorrow.

I'm using the second gen spindles, hubs, calipers and rotors. We currently have a thread in the first gen section. Within the next 2 weeks I should be able to get to my spare strut assemblies and find a way to make it all work. I know it will, just gotta get in there to see what needs to be modified.
Not sure how I'm gonna do the back yet but someone just posted plans for brackets so I may use those

You have inspired me to open up my drivers door today and look at the window regulator. It goes down fine but up very poorly.
You can change the color of your door cards with the SEM spray paint. It is not terribly expensive and it works really well. They have a cleaner that removes all dirt and oil and then a color coat. My local O'Reilly autoparts does not stock it but they had it in a regional warehouse so I could get it next day. Here is a link to the SEM Classic Coat page which has a chip chart you can download. They don't list Mazda but there are quite a few dark grey shades and I am sure you can find something close.

JD... I'm a crafter, and I say those door cards are HOME MADE. I wish I had the little inserts for the door opener like you have (in red). I doubt I'll paint my door cards, at least not for a while. I'm quite OK with them. Acoustic improvement too. There was a LOT of mud in the bottom of the passenger door, as a clip from the door trim had broken inside and blocked the drain hole and who knows how all the dirt got in. I'm glad to have crank windows. It seems odd that the one electric luxury that I have is the rear view mirrors. They work, but the mirror on the drivers side needs to be mounted correctly... Details, details.
I mounted my Sub Zero start assist to the firewall, but haven't figured where to connect it to the carb. I'm getting there before it gets too cold. I have a lot of stray plugs where the radio would install. I suspect the heater fan is simply not connected. Nothing matches... Gotta really look at wiring diagram.
AND I now have the little emblem by the tail light that says "Rotary Engine" installed! Easy thrill... thanks wahootee

Unloaded an NA S4 13B and a S4 TII 13B into the garage this evening. The NA S4 supposedly had good compression but was running a little hotter than normal before it was pulled. The TII has a side seal going.
I now have an almost complete GSL-SE 13B, an NA S4 and an S4 TII (needing the turbo bits) to take the place of my 12A whenever it goes. Decisions, decisions...
I plan on pulling apart the TII to inspect the housings. If they're good, I'll put that engine back together and source the turbo bits for a TII swap when the time comes. If the housings are no good, I'll port the TII irons and combine them with the S4 housings and rotating assembly (assuming those are sound) and make a 4-port PP NA engine.
Either way, the nearly completed SE motor will very likely be going up for sale soon.

It's been quite a while since i've posted an update- I have moved to Seattle, and had/have two big contracts i'm working on finishing up. I ended up having to tow the RX7 over, as I was messing with the timing and totally janked it up. Finally getting some time to spend on the car again, and getting ready for Fest (Seattle Vintage Import show - pre '88) this weekend. Alas, no SevenStock for me this year, timing just isnt quite right.
So this weekend I finally had a chance to get back in and fix a few things.
1) Erratic RPM signal - was making the RPM switches go off at random times, opening the 6 ports and VDI and messing up the tuning process. MAJOR pain in the ***, right after getting a section dialed in it would trigger and throw everything off. This became much more pronounced with issue #2, sticking 6ports. To attempt to fix this I installed an RPM signal filter. I tried it once, it didnt work, so there's a 2nd way of wiring it for extra filtration, so i re-did that today. we'll see tomorrow if it makes a difference. If not, i have no idea what i'm going to do to clean up my rpm signal.
2) Sticking 6-ports / VDI. So the fancy ceramic coating i paid $240 for was a rather botch job. THey didnt block off the intake ports (after vehemently detailing it in a letter and two phone calls) and so the blasting material marred up the VDI port and 6-port actuator rod tubes. Dis-assembled the entire intake manifold assembly (again), cleaned the 6ports / vdi out real good, used steel wool to further clean the 6port tubes, making sure not to get any **** in the engine and cleaning out the intake afterwards. Instead of using bicycle grease, which turned out to cause friction ultimately, I used graphite dry lube. I know you're not supposed to use any lube at all, but they really botched this intake mani up, so gotta do what i gotta do. So far, so good. VDI still sticks a little but seems to be getting better.
3) More fuel leaks! I hate working with fuel line, particularly fuel injection hose clamps. Next time I go back in there i'm going to shell out the extra few hundred dollars and have a professional make me some AN fitting lines. Meanwhile, Tightened those fuel line clamps as far as they could safely go.
my goal is to have a decent driveable street tune by the show this weekend.
