Huh. If it were me I'd be welding the entirety of the end tank to core seam last after tacking the charge tubes in place, and certainly would be having both end tanks in place before a full seam.

Are you waiting on John or is John waiting on you to supply parts? John has posted a few videos over the last week on YouTube about his 3-rotor build so something doesn't make sense to me.

I hope all of those open intake areas, the turbo, and the open water neck are being covered while in storage.

I've been biting my tongue this whole time but someone has to say it. Guys like John see guys like you coming from a mile away man. There's a point where you have to take some responsibility for the mess that you're in. You're green and you're paying the ultimate price for your ignorance. I don't even wanna know how much you're paying for this -probably so much it's embarrassing. There are plenty of respectable builders out there that will do good honest work for way less and within a reasonable time frame.

This guy is literally uploading videos every week of him playing with toys in the boneyard lol! That's why I was joking about your car lol. He's probably using some of your parts hahaha. Sorry man, this is definitely not a funny matter ... not to you anyways haha. But the thought of him making videos of rx7s with your parts is HILARIOUS! Every excuse he has given to you is just that, an excuse because he knows you're not gonna say anything just like every other time. Grow some ***** man and stand up for yourself. Sometimes a man has to cut his losses and move on to better things.

You started this thread looking for advice, here's my advice: give him a deadline. I mean damn, if it were me I would go grab my car and drop kick the guy. Wouldn't be hard since he's only 5 feet tall.

Edit: As for Sevenstock, there's always next year man.

It takes at least a month to do CNC and welding? CNC is overkill for that kind of work anyway. He should be able to get the material, cut, and weld without a CNC machine. This mess is ridiculous and outrageous. Get your money back and go to a different shop if that's all that's left of this build. Go to Lucky 7 Racing or DNA Garage. It may be difficult to have this finished for next weekend since SEMA is next week and a bunch of people are scrambling for that.

I don't understand AM West's business model. This is a PR nightmare for a company and having this bad publicity on what is arguably the largest Rotary online presence can't bode well for continued business success. It's insulting and a slap in the face with those recent videos of him focusing on his car and other car builds unrelated to yours which apparently has been sitting at his shop for over 2.5 years. With the amount of time it's been, I'd expect this to be at at the level of a Rob Dahm 2.0 project.

Just curious. Is this the same guy who just posted a youtube video of a yellow 3 rotor drift car? If so please let me know because I am about to blow up his channel. This is b.s. The shop owner is playing games with one of our club members. This is the type of b.s that give the rotary a bad name. Please let me know

Hmmmm,

so how many parts of your engine and car are on his??

seems he likes to “borrow” parts from cars for his own, which takes time from other paying customers builds.

there was a guy like this here where i live, started his own business and used money from customers (and most of them were his close friends) and also parts that came in for his customers for his own build, this went on for a couple yrs until he got ran out of town (literally, he fled to the mainland) as he owed a lot of ppl a lot of money, and like i said, they were mostly his close friends.

i hope you get your car back all good, and in good time.

maybe some experienced members could put together a build guide thread for us newbies with advice on how to go about builds to try and avoid stuff like this happening to other members.

None of my parts are on any of his cars. He gets all his parts from Hert and their sponsors. If you notice i have a borg warner and all of hert/johns turbos are garrett. Plus i’m running turblown stuff whereas they like and get free stuff from Glease Manufacturing. I see my car frequently enough to know this. John and i might be a bit rocky in terms of the **** he has been putting me through with my build but he’s not going to waste his time using customers parts for his own stuff like a lot of different shops have done. As far as deadlines, they are never met cus something always comes up on his part...(drift events, hoonigan, going out of state...whatever) and i to my knowledge i have supplied everything needed as well so theres none of this “waiting on parts” business on my side lingering. I see him frequently enough and thankfully we are local to each other as well but i have had this thread open as collateral should anything really go haywire....people are well aware of my situation with AM westcoast. I will continue to push for what has been paid for to get done as i want this intercooler to be done because it looks great and is a great brand core...but i most definitely do not want to wait more than another two weeks for a job that can get done in 5 days as Michael once said in a post up above somewhere that “it only takes a few days to put everything together and get a car started” so owning up to that statement right about now would be very good because i clearly stated my interest of having another shop finish my build for me (where it is now is literally just hooking everything back up together, adding oil, coolant, etc and firing it up) but mike made it clear that whatever warranty they offer would be void should another shop finish the rest of it and john and also mentioned to me how he would prefer to finish it himself since he built the engine instead of letting another shop take credit for it so i said ok fine. Aside from that..rest assured that i will do everything i can to make things right and keep things calm and steady to also staying at peace with these guys cause i do not want any drama like i always see between shops or customers and shops and i appreciate everyones input and commitment to frequently check for updates on this thread. Thank you

I understand letting loose every once in a while, but geez... all of those videos of him doing anything and everything not related to your car, let alone any other customer's cars, is incredulous. It's poor form and makes it seem like he only cares about himself. It's blatant in one of his recent videos where he talks about getting sponsorships to buy parts for his car because he doesn't have the money. He'd be able to rake in more money if he spent more time working on customer cars... although from other people's posts it seems he's already dug himself a hole before your situation and maybe why business is slow for him. That old saying, "don't mix business with pleasure" sounds like a good fit here. Perhaps he could look into another career that is more fulfilling to him.

The majority of us don't seek sponsorships to fund our cars. We work, get paid, then allocate funds towards our personal cars. If he did his job, maybe he would be as busy with business as the other rotary shops in LA/OC and be able to fund his personal builds that way. His current path is burning his bridges in this community.

I agree this type of bad business will spread, via mouth and will destroy his business. I had a rotary mechanic in my area that did a few people dirty, including myself and word got out. When the word got out no one would take there cars to him and he had to close up his shop. He no longer has a shop and was working in a warehouse last time I heard.
