Those went on pretty easy. The spring compressors were a bit of a pain, especially on the rear springs and then we had to wait a day for the new dust boot but overall not bad. Night and day difference in handling...now she just needs new tires so I stop sliding around corners.

Camouflage dog is camouflaged!

The brown bag special: You're doing it wrong.

The bag is to cover up the face man.

I've got a question that I know I could look up, but I'll ask here cause I'm lazy and I know one of you has to know this off the top of your head.

How can we raise the idle on an NA? I've tried the screw at the top center of the TB, but it doesn't make a big enough difference, and unlike my TII, her BAC valve doesn't appear to have that adjustment screw on the side. Are there other options? Thanks.

there is a screw on the back of the TB (I think) It might be on the front because I'm thinking of a T2 intake. but yes there is another screw that is like a throttle stop screw to limit the ammount that it can close. you can actually see where the screw hits the "bent arm thing" that is attached to the TB shaft. The screw is also located near the TPS.

or just tighten the throttle cable up some, it will keep the throttle from closing thus increasing the idle.

yeah, then you can lower the idle on demand by putting you foot behind the accelerator and pulling up.

Anyways we worked on the car a little today, see if we can get the lower radiator hose to stop leaking. Also plugged in some fuses and the logicon comes on, correctly manipulates the fan, indoor and outdoor air, head/head-feet/feet/ feet defroster and defroster. The A/C tries to work, but the clutch on the compressor doesn't engage sadness.

^^^

Make sure you have enough refrigerant in the system. The low pressure switch will keep it from coming on in that case.

OR you can give the clutch a 12V signal and see if the clutch is good.

John bypassed the switch, and we're getting 12V to the clutch, but it isn't engaging.

This is bringing up something old, but considering the inside of the car is blue, and the engine bay is also the same shade of blue, I'd say this car was originally this color. The '88 was a bastard child of the s4 and s5, some parts are s5, whilst others are s4. I've done quite a bit of searching for pictures on the internet and I've seen a couple of s4 with my color of paint o.o

Is it possible to swap out just the clutch? Or are we going to have to pull the whole compressor out?

Edit: Just answered my own questions: Yes, and yes. Anyone have any experience with rebuilding the magnetic clutch in an a/c compressor. I found the directions in the S5 FSM, it doesn't look too hard.

Hmmm - Ive swapped compressors out and I've removed the clutch before on a compressor (never put a clutch back on the compressor tho)

Anyhoo - SOMEONE has to have a spare compressore they would practically give you. I think there are only two types of compressors you could have and they are the same from S4 to S5. Its either Sanden or Nippondenso. Figure out what you have (probably Nippondenso).
