My very own Blue Lawn Ornament!
I loaned Angel a couple of drive shafts so they could switch them out with their current one to see if it makes a difference in the clunking noise. Give me a call with the good/bad news. I hope to see you and hopefully your FC at the meet Angel. What is this I hear of John buying a shop?
Thanks for the spare driveshafts Anthony, luckily they weren't needed. Angel did clean the rust off of one of them so at least you'll get them back in slightly better condition.
Sooooooooo here's the story: did you know that if the lugnuts on your drivers side rear wheel are loose, then it'll sound exactly like a driveshaft failing? :-P Got the rear end off the ground and was turning the wheel to turn the driveshaft while I was under the car inspecting it. I noticed it felt a little funny and made some noise. Got a lug wrench and found that all but 1 lugnut were a couple turns loose. Tightened 'em down and the noise is gone.
So that problem is fixed, but we've found that her drivers side window regulator is jacked. The motor turns and tries to push the window up, but it seems to be slipping. Sooooo....anyone got a drivers side window regulator assembly for sale cheap? :-)

And yes, I've got a shop now. :-) It's nice to have a place to assemble my compression testers that's not the kitchen table and it's got the room for me to expand and develop new devices.

glad we could help, almost. LOL
^^^ yep. Check that larger driveshaft and see if the yoke (spline) end is thicker and bigger around. If so, its probably either a T2 or an automatic.
Check the pinion flange end and see if its the same as the NA... if the holes are wider, then its a T2. If the holes are the same, its an NA.
You can use an automatic driveshaft in a T2 transmission and it will just reach to the NA differential pinion flange but its a little shorter than a true T2 driveshaft. The bonus is you don't have to change the rear end out to a T2 rear end.

Yay
For my birthday John bought me new shocks
He also fixed my windshield wiper switch, and my driver side window switch!
Next up is installing said shocks and hopefully getting my logicon to work, and getting my stereo surround installed. Did I mention he got me a s5 stereo surround as well?
John = good boyfriend.

You know what's awesome? Having a girlfriend that LOVES getting car parts for her birhday! We did also go out to dinner though, so we're not completely hopeless.
I think we're going to do the struts and logicon tomorrow morning and then build compression testers in the afternoon.

Lol! Thanks Phil.
Now, attempting to keep this thread on track: Got Angels struts installed, hooked up her oil pressure and water temp sensors and rebuilt her power window and windshield wiper switches. Her car is so much more fun to drive now. Put a big 'ol **** eatin' grin on my face when we took it out for the test drive. Got it a little sideways out in the country, Angel didn't seem to appreciate that.
She really needs new tires....the ones she has look pretty old and are starting to crack.

Not a bad idea, but Angels getting worried about one of them blowing out. I'd hate for her to be on the I-10 or something and have a blow out. I think we'll probably just play it safe and get new tires all around.
