Using PTS seals now after breaking my RA seals in two places and destroying my front housing last year.
I heard SCR seals have good results as well like PTS they just warp on det and save the housing/plates and turbo.
Were your RA seals the super seals? How much boost was that on and was it tuned right? Just wonderin.

To OP. Very nice car. Get that back together and break the 800+hp. How much boost is your turbo good for and are you still on the stock trans?

I was using RA Classic seals, the super seals were not available at the time. just over 20psi setting, did many drag runs tune was spot on, 10.9 afr, it was too small an exhaust housing on the turbo for the large porting I had causing an excess build up of heat for the engine, didnt let it cool down between runs (12 runs in the space of two hours all in the low 11s), the exhaust ports when we cracked the engine apart had a white coating along with the Turbine blades. So its not the seals fault directly. Just a shame they didnt warp instead. The seals did ok I suppose as I did a total 6 drag meets on them (approx 60 odd runs in total)

So now have gone for a larger turbo (T51 KAI) to suit the porting now along with a 4 inch exhaust and this time I will be running an EGT probe, hopefully if I do run into trouble the seals will just warp/bend like PTS claim.

Just been put back together here is my blogsite if you wanna check my progress over the next few weeks

I have had excellent results with the SCR's and didn't get too much time with the PTS seals. Either can save you a good amount of money should something unexpected happen.

i would say the atkins seals held up really good for as much as the engine was put through. Sure it was alot more than they was designed for. I have always run the atkins and have had them do everything i need

Thermal limits for stand 2mm Aktins apex seals???

I thought maybe some of you guys would be interested to see what we found when we tore the engine down. One apex seal failed, one dowel pin broke, cracking of the center iron, along with signs of the rotor contacting the housing.

I thought it was interesting to see the apex seals appear to have reached it thermal limits. The seal is bowed from the lower center out.

Some of you may have misunderstood. The car didn't detonate. It was ran approx. 10% richer than C116. Nothing to do with that either. You have to run a bit richer a/f ratio at 37-40psi range than you do at the 30psi range. Most of you don't need to worry about this, lol..The new engine will have NRS 3mm ceramic seals. Roberto, not saying the car never pinged in its life but thats not why it died this time. As you know when you break because of detonation the tip of the apex seal usually breaks. This motor had 2 warped apex seals and this last one looked like a termite was eating at it, lol. You can tell it was all the heat. No big deal. Rome wasn't built in a day.

"Ray sent the turbo out?"
Does this mean that the turbine wheel was damaged?
I thought that Atkins seals dont damage anything when it breaks?

Actually, we're gonna richen it up a bit so it'll last longer, so if anything it may make a bit less. Not like I need 780whp to run 9's, lol..
