Old guys with 12As club meeting

Wow, downtown Atlanta sure has changed since I was there two and a half years ago. Looks pretty much like downtown Laurel Fork, Va. :-)
And yeah, I was looking forward to my monthly rotary car club pics. Ninja meets don't help those of us who don't have shrinking kilts nearby. ;-)

Sorry about that Mr. Brown. I take a day off and look what happens. I'll make up for it at the 2-5-13 meeting.

It even hit my son Alan's hand as it jumped over him in the front lawn and bounded through the girls bedroom window. Fortunately, the deer and our" stuff " were the only casualties. Thankfully the fb was safe in its time capsule known as my garage.
So I haven't touched the car. I'll keep y'all posted. Matter of fact, its nestled in the garage nicely surrounded by new rolls of carpet, hardwood flooring, and furniture.
Hey anybody need to know anything about flooring, paint, and dealing with crooked insurance companies?

Wow Aaron, that's as good an argument for the second amendment in the current century as I've ever heard.
Did you use the Bushmaster or the Glock?
Just kidding, hoping to see you and Jenny up in the mountains this spring. Last I heard there's a master suite still available in the cabin Mike found for us, send him a pm.
Be great to see you guys! In the mean time, watch out for deer. (Nice photos Aaron, we could use you at the OGTA meets).
Holly, I'm sure I have an extra one of those throttle cables someplace, just need to figure out what it looks like and which one it is and how to get it to you.

I wish I wasn't on my phone doing this post, I think there's a really appropriate emoticon for this deer story.

Wow, that is one way to put some excitement in the ol home life!
And Ray, since it is the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, there is no "argument"

Greg, here's my take on the 2nd amendment:

Hunting rifles are one thing, properly registered and regulated.
Glocks, Bushmasters and all those other war toys the gun industry is shamelessly profiteering are quite another and should be banished from any civilized society.

Banishing guns won't stop criminals from obtaining them and using them against you. Remember, criminals don't care if they break the law, hence why they're called criminals.

But telling other people they can't have that item because you don't like it is not what this country is all about.

It's thinking like that that makes guns such a destructive and heartbreaking presence in our American culture Greg - there is much blood on the hands of the NRA.
Surely, as rational and caring people, we can do better.
Gun owners need to grow up and take responsibility for these highly lethal weapons, just as any person who sits behind the wheel of an automobile must obey reasonable rules and regulations and pay fees to cover the costs these possessions place on society.
Reasonable rules and regulations assure safe highways, safe food, safe buildings and safe airplanes.
Reasonable and effective gun laws would reduce and help avoid the terrible tragedies regularly visited on our communities by the reckless gun culture promoted by the NRA, gun manufacturers and selfish, excessive and sometimes paranoid gun owners.
This one is a no brainer.

I do not own a gun but this country was founded on my ability to do so if I decide. I also have the freedom to express my views just as you do. These are things that make this country great. Taking my right away to keep criminals from using guns would be like saying I cant own a car because someone else may drive drunk and kill someone.

Ray your not educated on this one. A carbine hunting rifle and an ar are no different ,except in looks department both fire once per trigger pull both fire as fast as you can move your finger, most modern hunting rifles use clips just like an ar . smaller clips but only takes a wink of an eye to re-clip so what are we trying to regulate [DON'T NEED BIG BOTHER TELLING ME HOW FAST I CAN MOVE MY FINGER,UNLESS IT"S THE MIDDLE ONE]Its a horrible thing that that asswipe did but i really don't think taking anybody's ar [and that will be the start of a slippery slope] away will stop some pshyco doing whatever. unfortunately anything can be used as a weapon. WERE DEFINITELY IN DIFFERENT CAMPS ON THIS ONE

I totally agree with Gene on this one tho, and I own a few of these rifles myself and a avid gun enthusiast.

I find myself in the unusual predicament of being in both camps on this one.
I am a gun owner and carry one everywhere I go (and always will), and I feel that efforts to fix the problem of maniacs killing people solely with gun regulations is short sighted and ineffective.
On the other hand it is obvious to me that whatever it is that we have been doing aint working, and something has to be done.
The worse thing is we have no choice but to depend on a government that at every turn demonstrates its inability to deal with even the most simple problems, let alone this very complicated one.

There is a study out of the NIH that shows that carrying a gun makes you 4.5 more times more likely to get shot.
The NRA has aggressively and successfully used their money and political influence to suppress this fact and to prevent any more research that would give us useful information about understanding gun violence that could be used to do something about it, including preventing the disasters Columbine, Tuscon, Aurora and Sandy Hook.
The list goes on and if we don't do something about, it will include our own neighborhoods and our own children.
But instead of promoting gun safety, research and laws that would prevent mass murder, the NRA propagates misinformation about assault weapons being no different than hunting rifles and paranoia about the government taking their guns away.
What is the NRA so afraid of? They have the blood of little children on their hands and they act as if nothing is wrong. It boggles the mind.

I agree, I am no fan of the NRA, their opposition to common sense regulations is part of the reason we have come to where we are, but It is one that distracts from the main issue, this problem is much deeper than gun regulations.
The lack of common sense regulations are a part of the problem, but a smaller part than most gun control proponents believe (IMHO). I feel the position that we can fix this with a few new rules fails to appreciate the complexity of the situation. We need to look at the big picture to get to the bottom of what is wrong. I'm not a physcologist nor a sociologist but I think the biggest part of this issue lies in those areas. We need to know more about what prompts these people to action. It would be nice to just remove all the guns so that the nuts would have less capability to kill, but in reality this country does not have the capability to do that, period. Guns are here to stay, at least for the foreseable future. trying to get rid of all the guns would be somewhat akin to trying to get rid of all the fleas, not gonna happen.
As far as having a gun making it more likely that I get shot, thats true, and its a fact that I realized early in my life. (I would interject here that that number goes up or down alot according to how smart or dumb you are.) However it is a risk I am willing to take.
It is my nature that I would rather die trying to defend my family or friends than to take a chance to be powerless in the face of a crisis.

I'm really getting tired of people blaming inanimate objects for the actions of the people that use them. When you get caught speeding, does the car get a ticket or do you? You hit your thumb with a hammer, do you blame the hammer or your clumsiness? I own a few guns as well and guess what... not a single one of them has gotten up and assaulted anybody. It is not the object that does the killing but the person using it. If someone wants to commit murder they will find a way. Look at Great Britain. They ban guns and people are killing each other with hammers and crowbars. Are you going to ban hammers next? Where does it end? This is not a gun issue but a psychological/society issue. We as a society want to put a feel good bandaid on the problem rather than really digging down and fixing the real problem.
On another note, have you noticed that, with one or two exceptions, every mass murder in the last 50 years has happened in a "gun free zone"? Tell me again how getting rid of guns will solve the problem?
