Ray thats one nice waffle at a reasonable price. Still has the original paint and its
still shiny on the lip and bolt holes.

Looks almost as good as my NOS spare which has never been used since brand new.

Looks like its coming together Dave.

Holly is there someone you want to tell us about?

Crit, I just used my Hydraulic press to remove the float pin... Was that wrong?...j/k. It is actually just like all the motorcycle ones I work on. However I will take any advice you have to offer as I have zero experience with car carbs.
Well, on the DHLA the clearances inside the float bowl are tight so it's easy to bang the float around on the way out, but that's not the big deal. The main weakness is that the float pin is supported by a spindly boss with a hole through it on one end, and a pair of spindly tines that are split like a fork that hold the other end. The tines are SUPER easy to break, and I never trusted my JB-Welded tines after the time I broke them. It's important to check that the slightly tapered pin with the groove machined in it is positioned right, and that the grooved end is in the tines. With a very small punch, you need to tap the pin out of the tines so that after 1/8" they're free and no longer risk breaking them. Check the pin after every tap, because if you happen to be on a tine when you tap, it's all over. Then just pull through the hole on the other end with a pair of pliers, since the big boss with the hole is much more robust than the tines on the other end.

If you try to tap it the wrong way, you'll deliver the impulse of your tapping to into the tines a few dozen times as you slide it, and if inserted correctly, you'll be pushing a gradually fattening pin between the tines, making it doubly easy to break. If the pin is backward, you'll want to tap very gently from the tines-end of the pin and it'll pull really easily through the boss if it's tapered backward.

Walter Mitty Grand Marshall - Mr. Jim Downing

Here is a link to an article on the history of the HANS device, which Mr "Grand Marshall of the Walter Mitty" himself co-invented.

Look out guys, Holly's on the prowl. If I weren't already hitched...

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Carbs Dave! Did you say you might be cruising down for the 3-1-11 meet?

More neat stuff from our Roving Reporter Greg the Younger. This thing handles almost as well as an FB:

I am certainly trying to make it down for the March meet. I am not positive, but I think I have been to the March meet each year since I started going. Kind of a tradition I guess.

I think I located a s4 lower intake manifold from Andre up here. He is picking up a s4 FC parts car and I think it has one. Hope to have it running next week if all goes well. The 13B looks good with a dizzy on it Ray

Where does one get a Orto rebuild kit?
Mine is having issues.

www.dellorto.com

That is the site that Tim(AKA: Mr. Farrell) told me to use. As he is my resident orto expert I went with them. They are in the U.K. so it will take about a week to get parts, however they do appear to have and know just about everything.

The only issue you will notice on the rebuild is that the accelerator pump gasket as supplied by
RB is a lot thicker than the one in the kit. I used the thinner replacement and didn't really notice
any issues. You could make a thicker one by doubling up or cutting your own. I think the thicker
gasket was just to get a bit more volume in the AP diaphram.

I have noticed that lately.
Let's do the meet. But, I think you need to provide the details. Where will this guest be willing to meet? March 5th is a Saturday. So let us know.

Ray- I hope to make it down for the March meet. I really want to try out the newly converted FC. I am however now waiting on the correct upper carb manifold to show up fresh from Racing Beat. The one I got from a crossroader is actually for the 12A and 84-8513B 6port. So I guess the FB will be getting a Orto treatment as well during resurrection.

I bought it on ebay, here's the ad.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

$3,795 for the mower, $285 shipping, another $245 for the zero interest 3 year financing and NO TAXES.

More than $1,000 less than I could have gotten the same mower locally.

It arrived in this big truck

this is where the 12A bridgeport is ending up. why not have a rotary p/u?

I had to bend the drag-link down and foward to clear the oil pan. the only thing left is to finnish my engin mounts, wiring and fuel. if all else fails, she should be together by next weekend. It's not as easy as it may look. I didnt wanna cut a hole in the floor for the rx7 tranny's location, so I took my new S5 tranny, removed the tail shaft, swapped the shifter fork fingers and shifter shaft from the truck. It's still blows my mind that the only diffrence is the bellhousing and tail shaft. Mazda didnt like changing things too often. So the setup I have now, allows me to use the stock shifter location, stock drive shaft and stock crossmember without modding. the engine mounts are the only custom job I have to do now that thw steering is out of the way. what a day. I have gotten an email from dan, and he seems to think that my setup will be what they call a
"Tire fryer" . He mentioned that the stock 6 port in an S5 have a hard enuf time taking off without blistering the tires off due to the lack of weight in the rear of the vehicle. Sounds fun enuf to me. More pictures will come, batteries died in the camera after I took the engine picture. After that, I will include a sticky on the swap for the entire rx7 community can see what it takes to do this swap. Hell I may even start to produce a 12A mount after all is said and done. We shall see....
Ofcourse everyone thinks a 13B would have been a better suit, but I haven't found one 12A pickup yet... so why not be diffrent?

Dave Cathy insisted that I get a model with a cup holder. As if it would actually be useful for something, any drink you put in there (read beer) is going to get sloshed around so much it won't be drinkable anyway.

Brett and Zach, I know you (and your girlfriends) are just jealous of my new RX-7 lawnmower.

Looking good Andre, big improvement over the boinger putting that 12A in there. Does look like you've got a teachable moment going there, please post more pics of the progress!

Andre, I'm jealous. I've toyed with replacing my Mazda Navajo with a old Ford Ranger or MAZDA B series pickup. I'll be real interested to see how it does.

Ray, great minds think alike. I like your mower and letting your wife thinks its hers
is a smart move. Now you can watch her mow the grass while you drink beer!
I picked up my neighbors older John Deere 31 inch riding mower for $150.00 bucks.
A tuneup, a new belt and a mod to the ignition and it starts and runs reliably now.
Not as nice as that new Mazda you have but it makes short work of my yard now.

Ray is crazy like a fox. I see whats he's doing there.

Check it out, we got the Mitty thread moved to the Upcoming Events section. People are starting to add to the attending list. This is shaping up to be a great event. Maybe we'll need a rotary only car corral.

It does take a long time to reply to this thread.

I meant to ask if anyone in the OGTA is playing Gran Turismo 5 other than me? Jeremy talked about it, but not just yet. Anyone? Tim? I want to bang fenders with someone I know.
