Old guys with 12As club meeting

"sex brakes"? Collin, your hormones are surging a bit, aren't they?
Maybe Holly, I do drive like a grandma compared to you. We'll see how those other two you were driving do over the next few weeks.
So Crit and Stu say hi-hi-low compression is a side seal, not an apex seal. Could Holly's down shifting have caused that?

It just means a 13B with a street port (SP). Why not 12A you ask? Well for one thing its getting harder to get parts for 12As and for another the 13B are bigger and put out more hp. I can reuse my intake and possibly headers so it should be a drop in replacement when the time comes. It will get me close to 200 hp at the flywheel. Right now I'm conservatively at 145 hp with my given mods. I'll have to dyno it before it explodes.
Right now I have to adjust my rear drum brakes (writeup in the works on that for SAs) and lube my front calipers because one I think is sticking and bleed the brakes.

Ray,
Yes, hi-hi-low = side seal. However, this may mean that you are in luck. Typically the side seals receive little wear (much less than the apex seals). They dont typically break either except in the case where people have done a bad port job and the edge of the side seal catches on the closing part of the port. It may be that your side seal is just gummed up with carbon and is not sealing properly. It might be worth another soak in seafoam and maybe running the engine with some seaform or mmo in the tank. Put seafoam down the carb, rotate the engine, add more.. squirt some in the spark plug holes with a turkey baster. Let soak for a few days. See if that will help.
Even though this might fix it, it might be a good time to pull the engine anyway. Once an apex seal gives, it takes out a bunch of parts with it. Better to rebuild before this happens. She has had a good life..time for a new heart perhaps.

Good advice Kent, thanks. Now that you mention those side seal symptoms they match up with a weird thing that happened a few weeks ago.
I was sitting at a light at an I85 interchange and needed to get into the left turn lane before the on ramp on the other side of the highway. There was guy in the pick up truck in the turn lane beside me and apparently was reading my mind.
When the light turned green he decided to drag race me to the on ramp to keep me from pulling in front of him. He lost the race but I had to red line it in the process, and when I pulled up to the next light there was a KAPOW and a HUGE cloud of smoke shot out of the exhaust. The pickup truck disappeared in the smoke, I guess I taught him a lesson.
But maybe that wasn't so good on my side seal?
It's soaking in Sea Foam right now, I'll try adding some more directly to the plug openings and give it another spin this weekend. Who knows, my 7's have fixed themselves before.

By Golly Kent, I think that Sea Foam might be working. I checked the compression again this evening and the missing spike has returned, a nice even 1-2-3 cadence on both rotors. I squirted in some more Sea Foam like you suggested, sealed it up and have it soaking some more. I love 12As.

MMO is a marvelous fluid, but it's also somewhat pricey. Ray, you'd be better off doing what I did and start buying regular two-stroke oil. It's HALF the price of MMO and the benefits are the same if not better.
Yes, Ray, 'Sex Brakes'. Hit 70mph and threshold brake to a stop in your FB...then get in my car and do it again. You'll see. It's like an orgasm for your foot!

We all really need to work on that trip to Commerce.

I would say Hollys driving probably let loose some carbon that got wedged in the side seal but if that was the case it would have shown up right after her drive. I suspect it was the nut behind the wheel that caused this one
Good to hear its working itself out Ray. To prevent carbon in the future make sure your hitting that redline at least once on every drive. You know, a little redline a day, keeps the carbon away.

"It's like an orgasm for your foot"
You are sounding like a pedophile Collin. "Pedophile", "Foot orgasm". Get it? Never mind.
After fighting with the White One all morning I'm struggling to find some humor in life.
The good news is that the compression looks fine now after a week of soaking in Sea Foam. The bad news: Still runs like ****.
Tim of course you are right, I am responsible for whatever witchcraft has taken over the White One. It's just easier to blame Holly.
Maybe if I go work on the Silver One for a while it will get jealous and start to behave.

That's rediculous. Threshold braking only means that you're reliant entirely on the coefficient of friction of your tires on the pavement. It actually takes your brakes completely out of the equation - you're just stating than an FC will take wider tires than an FB. Given that they're so portly, that was a good idea on Mazda's part.

Casually discussing a grudge-match / test and tune night sometime this summer. I haven't been up there in years, and my car's finally running top-notch, so I'd like to get up there. Maybe we can make it a Friday night followup to some Tuesday night beers.

yeah Crit and if no one is speaking for those red leather door panels of yours when you switch to that really cool gray interior, they'd look good in the White One, with still has the velor ones it came with. If I ever get it running.
So you think your SE can take those young 'ins FCs down there in Commerce? Must be running pretty good.

All red interior pieces are going to Ben (project88gxl) in Lilburn. His are about as good as mine, and he'd likely be willing to help you out.
As far as the test drive goes, you're welcome to drive it at the OGTA get-together, or swing by the house and go through the basement with me while you're at it. I'll also ask you for one of the three bolts that holds the PS pump on the bracket on top of my earlier pulley request.
Just realize that you might end up wanting an EFI 13B when you're done

Oh, and who wants to Autocross this weekend at Turnner Field? Sunday afternoon is Time Only if you don't want to be serious, but want to burn a little gasoline.

Man you guys have a busy social life.
Mike I tore down the silver one two and I'm rebuilding both in parallel. Here's the white one:
And here's the silver one:
And another of the silver one after I pulled off some more stuff yesterday:
And a better picture of the header:
Here's my manifold collection, from which I hope to build two good ones, both with functioning coasting valves:
Here's one of the manifolds after an initial cleaning on the wire wheel:
And here are some more Sea Foam pictures:
Looks like Crit's house. I'm looking forward to seeing his SE, he says it is running pretty good and something about fuel injectors not being such a bad idea after all.
The parts are ordered from Mazdatrix and I should have them back together this weekend. Hopefully, if it was the stuck shutter valve causing the trouble with the white one, we will have an FB for Holly on the 4th.
The Jeep has been running flawlessly since your visit Mike, I think the laying on of hands has worked even on this Chrysler made boinger. But I put in the can of Sea Foam just in case. You can never use too much Sea Foam.
