Well the headlight has always given me issues, but it's normally just that the headlight pops up after a while of the switch being set to open them. But I left the "flip the headlights up" switch on "up" overnight and it still wasn't up the next day. The physical plastic connection isn't broken upon a short inspection and I have concluded that the headlight motor is being unresponsive. Weather it's the motor or the wiring, I'm not sure. For the speedo I don't know how to check the cable, or where it attaches on the tranny, but the odometer doesn't count up, so I don't think it's just the dampening.

That inspection plate was a bitch Stu.
Good to know you're sticking with 12As, unlike some Crossroaders I know.
I do have a few sets of those headlight lifter motors Chris, seems like they never go bad (just the little plastic gizmos on the lever conectors go bad in my experience). So which side is it, I'll dig it out. I probably have a speedo cable to, if it doesn't start up again when it gets warm let me know. Might have just fallen out, like Crit says.

I've disconnected and reconnected the wires AT the headlight, I need to spray some contact cleaner on them, but that's as far as I know about wiring. The headlights haven't popped up after the car hits a small hole or speedbump (which I think does WAY more than me tapping the headlight motor can do) I need ot find a way to test and see if the motor is what's going bad, or the wiring. I SUCK with electrical systems though so I have no idea how to work on one.
It's the pass side for those of you asking.

Crit, you'd put Cheech and Chong to shame with that one, good thing you got some spare 13B rebuilds handy, right? And you can give Donnie that leaky one.
Oh and Michael, I'm totally offended by that "put a friggin boinger V8 in your 7" video, typical **** stuff, part of the Detroit generation's last desperate gasp.
12As (and sometimes 13Bs) rule.

Here's my vote for the spring drive... it sounds pretty sweet
http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread...ighlight=snake
Snake Run.
A scenic and challenging 250 mile day trip that crosses Blue Ridge four times.
One of the problems with communicating about various fun drives is that a road rarely offers the same challenges for very long. A road may have ten miles of totally insane turns, but be otherwise tame and boring. When a fair amount of time is required to get there to begin with, there needs to be more driving time to make it worthwhile. So a good run recommendation should tie several different roads together to stay in the twisties.
This run was mapped out by CSR from Miata.net, and I've run it twice, once as a performance run with other Miatas, and again the following weekend with his wife as a leaf-run. It's called the "Snake Run" for a ten-mile portion of the run for want of a better collective name.
The route:
GA 60 from Dahlonega to Suches, GA 180 from Suches to US 19/129, US 129 South to Alt 75, Alt 75 North to GA 348 (Richard Russell Scenic Highway), GA 348 to GA 180, GA 180 to GA 180 Spur (Brasstown Bald), GA 180 from Brasstown Bald to GA 17/75, GA 17/75 South to Helen.
Mileage:
About 250 miles round-trip from Atlanta, depending on how you get to and from the run. About 90-100 of it is the actual run, and the run itself takes two-three hours to complete, depending on traffic and how much you care about your car. The entire trip can be done in just half a day.
Getting there:
From Atlanta, Dahlonega is most easily reached via GA 400/US 19. Take 400 north from Atlanta, and turn left at the intersection with GA 60. There are several gas stations here and more (plus various food) in Dahlonega just 5 miles further north on 60.
Take the opportunity to gas up in Dahlonega. There is only one gas station on the run, and it's only 16 miles further up the road. There are three places to stop for snacks on the way, so that isn't as important.

Crit or Ray if you guys see this post close to 2:15 on Monday afternoon give me a call (404-217-5096). I am trying to swap the oil pressure gauge and I am not sure how to get the gauge cluster out.
Anyone else who has had the 84-85 guage cluter out and wants to call is welcome also.

Bad news is that you have to break your arm in about 3 places to reach up behind there to disconnect the cable. It is even more fun trying to put the speedo cable back on when you are done.

The trick is getting the speedo cable disconnected. Then you just get the screws out, tilt, and remove. I usually disconnect the wiring on the cluster when I do the speedo cable, but you should be able to do that from, the front (once speedo cable is disconnected and the cluster is partially out).

I learned alot on this attempt. The next federal holiday is Washington's Birthday. Maybe I'll take another shot at swapping the oil pressure gauge then.

By the way, bonus points to Zach. He had Ben Collins nailed as the Stig before Petit last year, and now it's official.

Hey Mike, why can't you make any progress on weekends? For what it's worth, I'm fighting the same battle on my new car, and I've learned that pegged at full pressure means that you have either a short or defective gauge. If you can get back to where you were later, I can tell you quickly how to check for a short. I'll need a good pressure gauge, so I'll gladly take one of those back from you.

If they are giving away FD parts as door prizes someone grab me a rotor and housing for mine. It died last week a most horrible and painfull death for the front rotor and housing.
And Zach just spoiled the game I started about the STIG being there last year. He didn't let anyone else play. You had it firgured out though if I do remember correctly. You questions led me to believe you knew.
