Woot, woot - Go Crit!!

Do you guys remember this picture from the first OGTA meeting, the one where Greg thought it was OK to bring a plastic model instead of a real FB?

Let's keep the regular Tuesday March 4 date for the next OGTA meeting, it is early in the month and we can use it to make plans for the Mountain trip later in the month. I'm eager to see Crit's and Donny's cars emerge from hibernation. It also sounds like there might be some parts swapping going on.

That sounds like plan. Keep the regular March 4 meeting and see what happens as far as the mountain run is concerned.

Mike is visiting the 'rents for the weekend, here's what he sent Greg and me on the carb:

"Ray / Greg

You gotta love the self healing capabilities of the 7s. My idle is running solid at 850 rpms and no more miss. I have not done anything other than look for vacuum leaks.

Monday Ray and I looked at the car. Jiggled a few vacuum lines, but changed nothing.
Tuesday I noticed that the idle was getting more steady around 1400
Wednesday the idle was really steady and was over 2k
Wednesday night I adjusted the idle to under 1k and leaned out the mixture
Thursday morning ran great once it warmed up. Solid at 850 no miss.
Thursday afternoon, we will see.

I did put a can of Sea Foam in on Sunday when I changed the oil. I also added some oil leak sealer, but I cannot imagine this having any effect. My guess is that I had some crap in the idle circuit that prevented the fuel from flowing properly and the Sea Foam cleaned it out. What do you think?

Now that the idle is better, I am pretty sure the choke linkage is not put together right. I had a had time starting it this morning and when it did start it was idling under 1k with the choke **** fully out. I suspect that the part of the choke linkage that increases the rpms at idle is not put together correctly. I am going to take a look at the linkage tonight.

I have noticed a slight stumble coming off of idle. I'm thinking of adding another bottle of Sea Foam, drive to Myrtle Beach and back - see if that makes a difference. Oh yeah, and say a prayer to the rotary gods while driving.

You guys have fun with the beehive repair this weekend. Try to remember to get the specs on the o-rings. I will need to do this when I get back from my parents."

Ray, I don't think I'm very stock anymore. I posted up some picks in the I77 meet thread of my engine bay for your criticism :-)

Damn, a subie. That hurts :-(

Now I have room on top for something :-)

I have to finish wiring my dual electric fans to be switched on/off by the temp switch on the back of the tstat housing and also I'll rig it up to turn off whenever I'm in 4th or 5th gear. Then we'll see what kind of mileage I get out of it. I know you like the factory fans but these MR2 fans cool better than the stock one. My temp guage stays noticably lower with these than it did with the stock one.

Maybe I can make it to the next meet on the 4th. If the weather cooperates and the stars and moons align you may see me down there soon.

You know I'm kidding Tim, it looks Great! I especially like the trick with the alternator. And I'll bet it runs great too. It would be nice to see and your new work on the 4th!

lol. Stu is jealous of my alternator relocation. Just ask him. I like it better for a functional reason, it gets more footprint for the belt on the waterpump pulley. I could probably get away with one belt now. I just went ahead and put the two on there for redundancy. I like redundancy in a system, can you tell?

Stu is just pissed because you've found an alternator solution that doesn't need a yohoo belt. Stu thinks yohoo belts are cool for some reason. His is green, maybe that's it.

But yeah, looks like you don't need the yohoo or the double pulley either. Nice!

Looks like you got some new wires there too, what's those white things on the ends. And that green thing on top, is that some kind of accordion?

Really, I like it all Tim, except the blue oil filter (get one of those cool little black Mazda ones). And the fans. If efans are so great, why do you need two of them?

Yeah, moving the alternator is a better solution for the whole system. The stock location works fine as long as you still have an airpump because that allows another belt to help drive the WP, but as soon as you remove it the waterpump tends to squeel, hence the double belt system.

The red wires are RB (8mm I think), they're actually old, been on the car since the early nineties. Good call aws. They still work fine but now that I'm driving it more I'm thinking of changing them out again.

The blue oil filter is a PureONE, which in a number of articles has rated higher than almost all other oil filters you can get out there and I think it may also be better than the stock one.

I'm not falling for the old "electric fan debate" Ray. Your just trying to up your post count Like I said earlier, mine cool better than the stock one I had on there and I have built in redundancy with two fans, so for me it works. I have more wiring tricks up my sleeve for those fans. Hopefully I'll have them done by the time I get down there.

Can't wait to see you and that fine FB of yours Tim, I'll bring some little corks for you to stick in those open connectors on your dizzy cap, the ultimate in coolness.

The White One sure was frisky today, do you suppose it's the full moon or the cool dry weather? I just love the way that rotary winds out out on the high way, like it's not even trying, just stretching it's legs a bit. This could be a life time addiction.

Remember guys, the March 4 meeting is a swap meet and March is Be Kind to your FB month.

Oh yeah, did ya'll see this post by Paul, our old buddy down in Voldosta? Great photos of that really clean SA of his:
