Old guys with 12As club meeting
Hey guys, I'm back if any of you remember me
I'm getting out of the RX-7 community for the time being, as I'm a poor college student who just needs a basic street-legal vehicle. As much as I love my RX-7, it's just not economical for me at this point in time. That said, I've posted it on Craigslist:
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/cto/911549980.html
I'll try to remember to look back at this thread, but the email/phone in the CL post is the only guaranteed way to contact me.
Thanks,
Brandon

That's a shame, man. BTW, you can spend $200 in emissions repairs, document it, and get your final tag. You can also buy yourself an emissions test for $100 or so and be done for the life of the car. Even if you don't register the car, you should make it out to Jeffrey's for our December get-together.
If you don't have any luck selling soon, you've got lots of grey interior parts that I'd like to trade with you if you're looking to make some cash on the side.

Hey all, Just got back from RA PDX! Awsome time. Did waay better this time out. Made it thru both sessions without getting sick
Got the first session on my GoPro track cam.( Batteries litterally died when I got waived out by Roy for my second session...the better/faster one)The bad part is all you hear is buzzing when i get on the gas. Have to work on that.
Found new issues to tend to after the last session. Apparently my catch can is not big enough in volume for 2 20 minute sessions. A TON of blowby
After the last session I popped the hood and the entire drivers side engienad bay is dripping with oil. Sprayed out the filter on the can...time to plumb it back into the oil pan
Also coverd my wheels and scarily my brakes, causing early glazing/fade. Awsome 3 hour enduro after the PDX also. I "think" the Rx8 won. There were a shitton of rx7's in that race.
All in all another GREAT trip to RA!! Also I had the pleasure of meeting Wallace Dew( Kubotowally on here) Elizabeth and I now are trying to scramble 4k together to pick up his Rx4 "furrball"!! That thing is sweet!!! Anybody else seen it? He made it to the OSJC meet by zero garage I think.
Sorry for the babble,
Dave

Hell yeah we want it. That thing is badass! No he did not race it in the enduro. there was about 5 first gens, 3-4 FC's and a Rx8 from the Koni Challenge series. And of course 9 million Miata's. I want one of those as well,...I need to build extra gargae building for the growing stable
Har har.
Dave you don't mean this carpet covered gray "fur ball" that showed up at the last OSJC/OGTA meet do you? I don't know if it was an RX-4, hard to tell with all that fur on it.
I didn't take any pictures off it but you can see it ******** up behind Billy's blue car in this photo:

If y'all can't pick out a Cosmo 110S, R100, RX-2 coupe, RX-2 sedan, RX-3 coupe, RX-3 sedan, RX-3 wagon, RX-4 coupe, RX-4 sedan, RX-4 wagon, RX-5 (cosmo) and REPU from a half-mile away, you might need to study up. There's a whole world of rotaries out there that you don't know about. We'll give you a pass on the Greece-only RX-6.
There are quite a few pics of the OSJC meet and the fur ball here:

Crit, it never crossed my mind that any self-respecting rotary driver would bastardize any rotary, RX-4 or otherwise, by covering it with **** carpet.
I took the "fur ball" for an old school Toyota Corolla being used as an advertisement for a carpet and flooring company.
The waffle wheels weren't even a give away, there was another Toyota at the meet with "X" wheels with a "Toyota" tag glued over the Mazda logo.
Boingers will do anything to look cool.

I was hoping Dave was talking about this fur ball:

I see those Import Atlanta guys have a pretty strong anti-1st gen RX-7 bias, looks like a bit of rotary envy in the boinger crowd. Good thing I helped balance the picture with a few shots of the best Old School Japanese Cars ever to come out of Japan.

Of course that's the car, and it's not hard to know it's an RX-4. You should know this stuff, guys! If nothing else, the old-schoolers will have the "Rotary Engine" badge in the grille, like Wallace's RX-4 has.

Is that a hint to visit vintagerotaries.com?
Kevin, bummer about that FB, but maybe this is a sign you need to be looking for a REPU or lower numbered RX for your second car?
From the archives:
SEs are considered experimental RX-7s. Although fitted with the less reliable fuel injected 13Bs, they are considered a 1st gen in spirit. Therefore:
1 SE = 1 1st gen
The fuel injected, turbo'ed, overweight porche-imitation 2nd gens still have a rotary engine, albeit a 13B, so they are also counted towards the Record:
2 2nd gens = 1 1st gen
The degenerate, twin-turbo'ed luxury 3 rd gens also get credit:
3 3rd gens = 1 1st gen

Brake help/answers needed help!!!! I just ordered and received Brembo vented front and rear rotors for the car. Tire Rack as the vendor. I told them I had a 1989 GTU with the factory equipment and 15 inch rims. They sent me 4 vented Rotors but upon inspection my rear rotors appear solid? That may have been the correct factory application. Question - do you anticipate any fitment problems given a replacement vented vs. solid OEM rear? Dust covers or the like?? I will have a Mazda master tech do the work but I want to be prepared. I am tech challenged although I once adjusted my air/fuel mix on my 84 GSL-SE in a beach parking lot!

As long as they are the same diameter rotors. And the same thickness, you should not have any issues. IMO the rears aresolid for cost measures. "normal driving" doesn't require vented rears, but fun driving does
Brake issues - Help!
Thanks Dave - I think Tire Rack ignored my specific info provided and used default sizing for the rotors. My brakes are single caliper 9.8 inch in the front and solid 10.3 inch in the rear. They shipped me 10.9 front and 10.7 rears. My rears are solid and they are scary thin (OEM) so I do not believe they - calipers - will accomodate the wider and larger rear rotors. The front OEM are vented but are 1.1 inch narrower. What a pain in the a--. I called them this eve and they said all is well but I think again they are assuming I had the larger 10.9/10.7 for GXL and Turbo 4 pistons. I will call them again 2morrow. The Brembo brakes look great and are impressive and cheap for my old girl only $40 ish each but if I can not use them they are great paper weights only. Glad to hear you solved the catch can issue. Your car did sound good passing me going into 1. I was pleased with the old girl but I was punishing the brakes a bit more and no fade but they felt a little crusty.
I think Hagerty's quoted me 1150 and Grundy quoted me like 750 for the Lotus and the FD per year. Not bad at all. Not sure on all of the restrictions though. Grundy says they don't limit mileage, but I know there are limitations. Obviously both are garaged and neither are a daily.
