ROtaries NEED thermostats. It has been said that the water will run too fast through the
raditator NOt cooling enough before going back through the engine.
Try using a thermostat before you go getting all pissed and parting your car.
BUy a thermostat and try again. I am 90% sure on this fix.

So its eating coolant? Have you had to top the rad off?
Did you do the 2 litre trick?
Man---- That sucks. It must of overheated one to many times, Ruining the coolant seals.
IM glad we didnt tune your car. This could of made my brother and i look bad.
Cars should always run with a thermostat. TOO cold is bad and ,of course, so is too hot. So either way your loosing.
PS. What are your plans now? BEsides selling engine/ecu. You going to get another engine? Please not an lsx....

Def not a v8! Ever! That's why I was putting off to get it tuned. Wasn't going to let anyone touch it with it running hot. I believe the issue started before I got the car because it would run hot on the highway when I got it. But no regrets its a super clean fc so its worth it.
COol.
If your looking for a jdm engine go to Japan2LA on this forum. He checks his engines with proper rotary test tool. ANd get an s5 they are stronger. The engine i got from japan2la has been great. HAd great compression and still does. I check cmpression every 2 months=D. I do because now i know when compression gets to the mid 90's per rotor.. then its pretty much rebuild time.
I paid around 1600 shipped for an s5.

Yeah I'm extremely frustrated with the car because my car's been overheating even when it's not too hot outside. For the past 2 or 3 weeks it's been heating just by being at a high rpm too long, driving at high speeds, or accelerating hard especially at 3rd gear or higher. So I really need to watch my temp gauge every time I drive.
The fucked up part is I just replaced my thermostat and the gasket with a brand new ones from Mazdatrix 4 months ago and I rebuilt the car 5 months ago so I'm 90% sure the source isn't from the rebuild. Maybe this thermostat broke again or it may be from having a weak alternator belt (which is connected to water pump), or something else. I was told it could also be due to having too much air in the car since my map/air pressure sensor isn't working.
On top of that I'm leaking a little bit of black black black fluid and not really sure where it's coming from. It just started this week after I didn't drive the car for 4 days when I was out of town. May be transmission fluid or oil.
Also my alternator belt just snapped two days ago so I'm wondering if using a turbo fan has something to do with creating added stress on the belts. And no I don't have a dual pulley because I've been too broke to buy one and didn't think I needed one for an N/A car.
All I wanted to do was resurface the flywheel and post this damn car for sale and now all this fucked up **** is happening. FML!

FC3sNAtaku. YEs japan2la has rear s5 irons. HE has regular s5 irons and the ,super strong sough after, late model s5 rear iron that are bad ***.
Driving Impulse. It sound like you have a slow leak? Have u needed to top off the rad at all?
HOw often?
I would start with a new belt. Or tension the alternator more. That belt cant be slipping at all.
CAn you specify where this "black black black" fluid is comming from?
MY last engine had a bad freeze plug. Which is behind the flywheel and when it leaks it comes out between the rear iron and the bellhousing. I never knew it until i went to rebuild and saw all the rust building up on the rear iron from this super slow leak that had gone on FOREVER.
Just Do one thing at a time. DO the belts first.

^ I never thought about bad freeze plugs and I guess that could be it because when I checked underneath my car I saw a puddle of fluid underneath the flywheel and front of transmission.
So I replaced my alternator belt and tightened the bolts as well as I could. Only dumb thing I did was broke part of the thread on the shorter 10mm bolt that goes on top of/behind the power steering pump when I was putting everything back together.
The last time it overheated was while I was on my way to work 2 days ago when it was storming like hell. When I got off work I added about half a gallon of water and antifreeze into the car.
While I was replacing my belt today I had to add a little more and squeezed the main radiator house a couple of times which created some bubbles and took in more anitfreeze. So I added more and squeezed the hose again so it looked like it needed to be topped off a little more but I left alone. When I looked at the radiator again after a few minutes, the antifreeze actually filled up towards to the top of the radiator cap again on its own while some of the excess dripped into my coolant tank.
I turned on the car after I replaced my belt and just let it idle and saw the leak or one of the leaks is coming from my A/C compressor. I also noticed a hissing noise near the firewall but couldn't determine where it was coming from and if it's a vacuum leak.

I dont knwo about the a/c or the hissing. BUt You have a slow leak somewhere.
This leak is the first thing to worry about. See if you can make sure its water/coolant dripping between the rear iron and bell housing. If you do make sure. You are going to have to take the tranny out. Pull the flywheel off and replace the freeze plugs.
Not too fun of a job. But it will fix your overheating issues for sure if it was leaking..

Driven Impulse, you might try a pressure tester either borrow 1 or maybe stop by a radiator shop tell them what's going on & they could put the tester on there for you, what it does is hooks up where your rad cap goes then you pump it up to pressure wait a little while then check on the tester gauge if it leaked down & look for the leaks on your car then good luck. i got my rotary installed

as far as the leak if its a external leak the pressure tester will force the leak then you follow it to the source but if its internal no it wouldn't do any good.
^Oh noooo's it's the 5.0!! Hide the kids and the rotards
Good luck with the build!
Yeah, I was told to use a pressure tester when I was first experiencing cooling problems with the car. This was before I did the rebuild and discovered one of the front plates at had been corroded at the bottom where coolant was leaking out. However this time around I'm confident it's an external leak especially after noticing the coolant around the A/C pump and because I'm not blowing out any white smoke at all (Thank God!!). But it would still make sense to use a tester anyways since you mentioned it would force pressure out to be noticable enough to find.
^Thanks for the advice man. I can't do that kind of work on my own so I'm waiting till next week if my friend has time because lately he's been working 10 hour days. Unless someone else wants to give me a hand and thinks we can get this done in a day or two?

I'll help ya try to locate a leak if you want. I'm free all week cept thursday from 12-4. Unless something comes up. I'm still sick though. So if you get sick, you know who to blame haha.
David, you can rent a cooling system pressure tester from autozone. If Russ doesn't have time to help you, I know how to use one, and can meet up with you if you'd like. My time off work is tight, so we will have to plan ahead. Just let me or Katy know.

Thanks for the help Greg and Pat
Hopefully we can figure the problem(s) this week and I'll get hold of Russ later this week because I know he's been busy and want to give him his space
