I would bet for Stu its almost an hour to get there, at least 45 minutes. For me its about 15 minutes usually, depends on traffic really. I would drive a bit further but thats because I'm so close anyway. Folks from south charlotte are already driving a ways, I would expect we would see them less than we do now (excepting Stu of course).

So you are asking if anyone wants to move the meets closer to you? They are already in a pretty central location for eveyone that comes usually. I drive about 30 minutes( 10 miles as the crow flies.) I think changing the meets now would only frustrate and deter more/new people from joining the fun.And also keep current members from attending in the future.

That said I think 1 meet a month is not enough. I would be willing to maybe set a second date for meets closer to you maybe.

Hell Stu, Tim and I drove 3 hours for a meet a couple months ago. and then another 3 back home

The engine is torn down awaiting me to clean it and anally inspect it. Then figure out what porting to do. The 6 ports kind of make doing alot of extreme stuff difficult. ( at least it looks like it would.) I know NOTHING about porting so far. Hence why I grabbed this engine to learn on. Basically it is going slow And will continue to be slow going

I've done that twice now.

I'm going to go to the Aug 9th meet of the Raleigh group in 2 weeks next. I was going to go a couple of weeks ago but had to postpone.

I may not make the next meet on the 10th, we'll see tho.

I agree, I think moving the meet would be a bad move. I think meeting more often would be good as long as it involved some social activity otehr than eating together (go karts, track days, day in the mtns, etc). Once a month just to park and oggle our cars and eat together is enough for me.

well not really move them, that's why i wanted to know everyone's driving time, i didn't realize how far away charlotte was from moorsville, and also, yeah i wouldn't mind having a second one neither, but it wouldn't be worth your driving time on moving it closer if i cannot get an ok sized group from this side. like i said i don't wanna screw any of you guy's "tradition" for a lack of a better word. but with that said, if i can get a good crowd, would anyone be interested on driving a bit farther up and maybe like you said have two meets?.......these are just ideas i'm still trying to get in touch with all the people i know, and with those that they know. so i'm just gathering numbers and what not right now.

so far i've gathered that yes moorsville is pretty much well centered and it's a great location, it's basically halfway on this side of the state, so it's cool, i have no complaints. i just had a guy i talked to who was discouraged cuz he thinks a 1hr drive is too far, oh well.

Hey Tim, I have wanted to get over and meet Burt and the Raleigh crew since I lived in Hawaii!.. I got into that thread when I was looking at moving back to the mainland. Good group of people over there it seems. They meet on Sat nights correct? Still at the char-grill? Haven't been into their thread on NC rotaries. What time are you leaving? I may want to tag along.

I am heading to Lillington( south of raleigh) to swap a engine on a FD for a Army speacial forces soldier. he is heading to Afg or Iraq for his FOURTH tour!!! To bad it wasn't the following weekend. Although I am going to have to make a couple trips there to finidh everything up nice and tidy.

About the meets, Yeah an activity is a must. No offense everyone but just standing around gets boring to me. I have a place in the mountains we can make a home base for the day.( Saluda NC) Great access to great roads. The Blue Ridge Parkway is only 20-30 miniutes away. We can do a BBQ lunch or pack **** for a Parkway lunch etc.. Chimmney rock is about 30 minutes away as well. LOTS of fun roads around there. Plenty of room for cars at our place. Lots of awsome photo ops for the cars and crew..

Basically I am up for anything. Just don't change my only garunteed date I set on my calender each month

HAPPY B-DAY SammieD!!2 days late, Blame Josh, he didn't say anything to us! What a jack-***!!

Dave

That sucks John, You OK otherwise?

Carefull what you say in court about the "blacking out" They may just say that you CAN'T have a liscence due to the unforseen blackout spells. They may deem you to be too much of a danger to the rest of motorists. My GF has had a case similar to this before. She got it after they took the womens liscence.( She had epilepcy,..seizures) Just be carefull and get a good lawyer.

Glad you are alright.

I agree with Dave, i say we try to meet at other places for scenic legal dricing or evening at local autox place, something of that nature.

I would be more excited about that kind of stuff.

you know, i was actually thinking about the mountains a while ago.....we should have some sort of cookout type of deal sometime, maybe go to the lake and swim for a while, or idk, take a hike in the mountains, and just cruise around some of those roads ...or the parkway...

I think what would be great is if we could as a group find a place that would let us use there parking lot on a sunday afternoon and set up our own autox for just us. That would be great, cheap, safe, legal fun. If any one knows of large lot places or have any inside connections we should try to do something like that. between all of us surely we could do this.

I know its fun going on drives with everyone but its just a matter of time before we get ticketed and its not worth that.

I think if we did some autoxs it would test our cars, our ability and give us some good experiences.

thats just my 2 cents

omg with the legal word, lol. im with dave, the mountains are an awesome idea. my parents have a place up there we can all crash at too. ( just throwin it out there) we really need to start thinkin about leavin the parking lot we call home and doin some real activities. with that said im all for a mountain run. if dave doesnt have room for everyone, my brother has a large flat yard to camp in. sam and i know alot of nice spots on the parkway for photo ops, hiking and whjat not. john sorry to hear about ur wreck, hope u make it out ok. but lets keep this conversation going, im interested to see where this leads.

You haven't missed anything John, We are just tossing around ideas about progressing our meets to something other than what we have going on. Which is fun and a good way to meet new people and catch up. But, we also need to spread our wings so to speak and cruise around. Maybe we also plan a group rally to a Raleigh meet one month. Show our pride and meet another great group of peple into rx's.

Josh gave me a sticker of a rotor. I am taking it to a sign place to have them make different color ones( black, silver, white) We thought it would be cool to have a "logo" in the center of the rotor. Something symbolizing or crew. maybe something like X-Roads Rx7 club arranged in a cool way. Some of you photoshopprs can mess with the idea I bet. I can post a pic of the sticker in mind so ytou all can have an idea of what would be cool.

i like where this is going , the autox idea isn't that bad either, hmmm... i know some of the local drifters have found lots in which they could do w/e, but they quickly get shut down by all the elderly people..... and they have a hard time trying to convince the authorities about it...... idk how it is towards that side of the state. .....hmmm... i'm really leaning over towards the mountain idea, simply because it'd be a really cool place to have photo shoots, and **** idk, do some grillin' or something w/e lol, just hang out for a while, my only concern again would be, how many people are interested? lol....we could discuss all of this over the next meet or something.

question, do you guys still meet in the winter? or is it just a summer deal.

We try to make this meet all year. I agree with you guys about changing up the pace. I think we should post up our ideas and put it to a vote. Just make sure that if your going to vote, please be sure to come to the meets. If we are going to do this, we need to make sure that our cars, and driving skills are up to the task. It seems like the local meets have had more casualties than we should. I would hate to have a trip planed and someone takes a spill. I think we all would feel bad if we had someone have an accident under our care. Just food for thought.
