can you explain what's going on with the mazda race housing? what's with the weird intake port shape? why does the ex. port taper in in the opposite direction and why is it so small for such a large int. port?

Those Ports are CLR Motorsports designs. Any explination of them would have to be done by himself. I can say that with those same ports we make 280 RWHP on a 2 rotor configuration right now.

just curious, but if those are clr ports, why did he use a different design with yours? i could see slight differences in port size to suit the different applications specifically, but not such a 180 deg. difference. if he's found that port config. optimal for making power, wouldn't he apply that to all his engines?

There are two different housings in that pic. The one on the left is a GSL-SE 13B housing. The one on the right is a Mazda Fatory Race Housing. The CLR port is on the left and its Ported that shape due to the casting that the housing may have. Other OEM housings may have a different Cast or exaust sleeve causing it to dictate what your final port shape may be. The Housing you are looking at on the left will be going into my 4 Rotor Engine. The exaust port is significantly smaller than the exaust ports on my 2 rotor currently.
Hope this helps.

Just Came in! Apex seals in House. 12 to be exact. Carlos has always used these Ceramic apex seals in all his Race motors and will not accept to use anything else. I had to sell some other toys to make this a reality but after one less ATV i think it was a fair trade up for the Apex seals and Gasket set.

Here is the whole gasket set that will be used for the engine build. This includes side seals, Oil seals, Corner Seals and all the springs that go with it as well.

I see your running the older 13b housings. What year rotors are you going to use?

I Did not want to use a 1 piece design. The 2 pc deffinatly seals better and as for the bigger Apex seal..Although its not turbo, it is known that the thicker seal is measurably stronger and becuase this engine will be beat on just like the 2 rotor now. i did not want to take any chances.

Well i have the 2mm 2 piece seals and the compression is high. I have not been able to check it after i left england. But will do it before i take the engine out of the car. But we did see 6.8KG of compression on average on all 4 rotors after 1 hour of running

My engine has gotten alot of beating this summer, and i do not belive the 2mm 2 piece seals will break. They are quite sturdy.

Im running S5 housings and 9.7 rotors and that should work fine.

It all comes down to the enigine builders expirience and technology. Usually they dont like to reinvent the wheel and stick with what has worked for them. As for the difference in earlier Housings, I cannot confirm this. I will tell you that In my 3rd gen turbo street car. I used 85 13b housings and that car made 516rwhp no problems and sold it that way as a daily driver. Im using that in my current road race 13bpp engine and the same set up is going into my 4 rotor. What tends to happen alot of times with these engines is that you get that failure you just cant explain so you lean towards whatever change they may have made at that point. Sometimes it maybe that they used early housings with later rotors, or later rotors with 3mm seals or so on. My advice would be....Stick with whom you trust, and trust whom your sticking with when it comes to these engines. Remember! Even those who know what they are doing can have an engine failure. It comes with the territory when it comes to Rotaries and it was understood when we got this Fever that there would be no cure for it. Swine Flu aint got nothing on the 4 guage ground cable we have shorting in our heads!

I was talking to Jim, the owner of Racing Beat the other day, and he told me that the older 13b housings are differently shaped inside than the later housings and that if you run later rotors such as the 9.7 s5 rotors, you could damage the housings and rotors. He also said that the 3mm seals will wear the housings out quicker than the 2mm and that the 2 piece 2mm seals, seal better and make more compression and power. I don't know what to think about his advise regarding the older housings and newer rotors because my friend is using this setup in his all motor drag car and has not had any problems. What do you guys think?

For the Past week or so, I have been working on the final finish and port shaping for the Intakes on the Rotor housings. I should be done with this in the up-comming week or so. I will post pics up when they are finished.
