Hmm here is what I have to say about diesels. They own any gasoline engine. For the simle fact that they use the tourqe they produce very well. I am a diesel tech. I spend all day working on these at a machine/diesel engine/performance shop called Jim Menicks. Look it up its in West Virginia.
Ok here is how it is. Detriot Diesel back in the late 70s and 80s have the 71 series motor. Which means they have 71cubic inches a cylinder, they came in different models the 3-71, I6-71, V6-71, V8-71, V10-71,V12-71. These were for Heavy duty trucks and made about 500hp in the V12. But that is not the beauty of it. The turqe they made was monsterous. some hwere in the range of 2500-3000 ft-lbs of it. But they are also to big to fit in a newer car or any car of the day and were not given any upgrade that I know of. But the power was achived with mechanical everything. from injectors to valves to fuel managment. Yes primitive fuel managment that dictates the amount of fuel by engine speed.
Now lets fast forward to today. Everything is electronically controlled. From valves that do not use cams and of course fuel control. So now in todays world a smaller motor can make more power. Now all the things you here aboput 1400ft lbs and 500hp. Yeah but that is power that can be made again and again and still be a ver reliable engine. With a simple ECU upgrade diesel engines can gain upwards of 200ftlbs from a simple upgrade. And then there are other kits that consist of turbo, IC, injectors and things like that. But still we have not opened up the motor. With out opening up the motor or pulling a head you can make reliable, and huge amounts of power highest I have seen with a lot of tunning is 1600ftlbs.
Ok so now we can open up the motor. pop out the pistons drop out the crank, pull the piston liners. Now you can bore the motor and pump out enev more cubes and get bigger liners and bigger pistons. Put in a balanced rotating assmlebly that would do it for the bottom end. Move on the the head and valve train. Things can be greatly improved here. Bigger valves head porting larger injectors, ou know the basics. Now you have a very big motor with alot of cubic inches. And since a diesel fires off of compression the compression will be about 22:1 no I am not making that up ask any diesel tech and that is normal compression. Ok so big compression big inces and an extremely strong bottom end. ANd it costs about as much as a normal rebuild for one. HMMM wow thats alot.
For the boosted side of things comes the fun part. You have 3 ways you can go. 1 turbo 2 supercharger or 3 both. And here is were most people get alittle bit scared. ohh to much boost. with both, not really all you do is richen the bitch up. Now because the diesel motor has maximum revs of about 3-4000 RPM it takes awhile for the turbo to spool up if you go for a big one. So just add a gear driven super charger. off well that helps on the bottom end even more. Now you hit the majic RPM were the turbo spools up. Now because most of the trucks today dont have a supercharger they will black smoke off the start. because there is no boost and hella amounts of fuels. So I think it is BANKS that is coming out with the kit for a dodge that has both the SC and the turbo. But im am not sure.
So in the end have all of this put on a tourage or how ever you spell it. Diesel and you will get spanked as long as he has up graded his tranny and drivetrain.
Diesel=Fast. Well now anyways. All of the upgrades I have mentioned should bring you to about 2000ftlbs in an american diesel. Havnt work on a VW yet. But you get the point.

propane injection can be very dangerous. MAinly because of the fact that a diesel ignights fuel by compression. To put it simply have you ever seen a bulldozer run into a natural gas line. It tends to give it all kinds of power. That is totaly uncontrolable. Once the engine gets a sniff of it they go nuts. and you cant shut them off because the way you shut off a diesel to to cut the fuel. the revs jump from a high 3500rpm to a ridiculous unknown amout that would totaly destroy an engine.
But because the propane injection kits of toaday are controable with rpm accuated valves and such it can be used safly. With just propane you can see added amounts of power depending on the size of the engine. Most I have seen dynoed is about 450 and another 700ft lbs of tourqe. But this was on a v12 detroit diesel. Damn, cant believe I missed this thread the first time around. All of this talk about HP makes me want to mod the hell out of my car. Well, I am just glad that the initial poster was not harmed and everything ended well. Hopefully someone will post someday or find a post about the "kill" on one of those retards' cars.

the fastest suv on earth is a vw toureg actually , twin turbo v10 diesel . i have a 2 door tahoe with basic mods that beat an 05 mustang gt and it's just an n/a v8 , now do your basic turbo tricks like larger intercooler, exhaust, intake,timing , boost control , and maybe no2 and propane injection....i'm pretty sure you will have a good deal of hp. banks engineering has a twin turbo kit for my 5.7L vortec that with small turbos ,cast manifolds no intercooling and stock exhaust will have 3 tune settings, 1100hp ,800hp or economy mode 700hp , tell me you wouldn't be surprised if your 500 hp car that weighs in at 3000lbs stock trim+you driving gets raped by an suv weighing 4900lbs stock trim +driver and doing over 700 hp on pump gas and 10-12 psi non intercooled. you would be surprised.a lot.

Ok a little of topis but I own a 69 beetle. So I gotta answer that question. Yes the most power I have seen from a beetle is 500hp. I have a mag with it in it around here somewhere. Things to do to bug to make it fast.

If you wanna talk about accual sport utility vehicles then no all of the ones you mentioed are incorrect. The Factory series Unimogg is the fastest SUV in the world. Looks more like a truck but is sold like that bid international as a really big SUV. speeds on it can top 160 stock. But this thing s outside the normal asking price for any buyer to accualy afford. It makes around 2500hp not sure about tourqe though. They are huge I know that.

You need to add torque into the equation. 1400 ft/lbs vs. 400 ft/lbs.

Well smis tend to hold up pretty good with it. But that is a different case here. A very sticky dragslick could hold that and more.
