Thanks for posting pics of your cage Damian, Looks good. Been doing other things lately, not many cages. Finished a front A-arm suspension for a 36 Ford 1 1/2 ton panel truck. Customer brought it up from Anaheim, Ca. for me to do. Long drive both ways twice to Portland, Or. But, I appreciated it very much. I missed designing and fabricating custom suspension so I really enjoyed this project.
He told me before he brought it up every shop he talked to wanted to use a Mustang II set up. Truck will be to heavy and he wanted to be different. I came up with using fabricated lower and upper control arms from a Nextel Cup car, figured a 3300 lbs. stock car traveling near 200mph with G's should be fine for a panel. Spindles from a Chev PU, Shocks and springs will be supplied with QA1 adjustable coil overs and the steering is a Appleton Rack and pinion. Plated the spring pockets on the lowers and prepped for coil over shocks. Upper mounts are hand fabricated as were the lower mounts. Boxed the frame rails and added a tubular trans mount that removes easily.
I forgot to take pictures of the frame before we loaded it on the U-Haul trailer so I must apologize for the shots. All welds are unprepped and will be ground by the customer before paint. Frame sits at factory ride height and will have a 33" front tire. Lowers sat below the frame rail 9" and uppers fit nicely on the upper top of rails. Frame rail is 1/4" steel and is very heavy. We built in the caster and camber into the design and bumped the steering so there is virtually zero bump and gave the front 25 degrees of steering either way which is a big difference from the factory solid axle it came with.
The white substance seen in the pictures is a rust preventative to keep it clean until he arrived home. Spindles and shocks are not present and the mock up shock tube is seen in the passenger set up.
Now I have to do a cage for a Supra from San Francisco, no freaking idea why anybody would tow that far for a cage. I know of at least 20 shops between them and me. Oh well, at least I am staying busy.

Doing something with gussets. Had an idea so I tried out my vinyl cutter program, seems I can edit and import vector files and save as a file for Cad. I e-mailed the file to a local laser facility here and I did a test run. Seems to work, now for some more ideas. Going to try to pawn the off on EBAY!

Cool gussets Russ! What kind of set up charge did they charge you? I've been thinking of getting some plates cut by either waterjet or laser...
Here's the final pics of that PCA car. Another 944 coming in next week.

Very nice work.
Did you have any problems getting clearance for the dashbar? I was wondering if you managed to keep any of the heater/vent units in place? (from the missing Logicon unit, I expect that you didn't).

there is half(or third) of a cage in mine. It was in there when I bought it. (2 weeks ago)
Any suggestions on what I need to do to safely bring it throughout the rest of the car. The interior is about to be ripped out, dash and all. then seamwelded and caged. looking for an 8 point at least. going all the way to the front shock mounts.

Would it be safe(as far as an opinion of safe judging from pictures on the internet goes...) to add to the cage?
I have an appointment to see the guy who built my freinds cage. (8.5 point in a miata) He does extremely good work. I am going to get his opinion on the matter.
I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Especially on what I can expect an 8 point cage to run me. I understand that there are different qualities of metal, sizes, and thicknesses. Anyhting to prepare me to talk to this guy about it. I just don't want to get raped on the price or quality.
Thanks,
-Mike
