Straight out of the SS section on cages: Rollcage gussets shall be no thicker than .125”. A maximum of two gussets per rollcage joint are allowed.
Depending on the location and design, I wouldn't go thinner than 14 ga for taco style gussets.
The Production cage above was cut out or redesigned IIRC

Some pics of the modified Kirk Racing main hoop in my vert. As purchased from Krik Racing, there was only the main hoop that bolts to the floor and the seat belt bracket on the b-pillar. Not the best thing but certainly better than nothing at all. The problem with the verts is maintaing functionality of the top since the targa section folds forward.
You have two options with the vert.
1. Maintain original functionality of the entire top for ease of operation but sacrifice support bars from the top of the main hoop to the rear shock towers (or rear bars in general).
2: Sacrifice ease of operation of the top by having to stop, get out and install/remove the targa section every time you want to put the top up/down. Doing this though would allow for rearward bracing of the main hoop.
Seeing as how my car is a street car that sees track duty via open track events and Time Trials, I only have to comply with a minimum of rules about rollover protection ( basically just need to have something with any vert). Also, I was not willing to sacrifice the functionality of the top and more importantly, not have to listen to my gf bitch about getting in and out of the car

Well here's pics of my SCCA EP car project. Still in the cage shop. Needs gusseting in several spots, and were considering adding a bar from the passenger side rt. front to the center of the x on the rear hoop. Then from the x to the drivers side rear spring perch area. This is still a work in process, so if any of you cage guru's have any great ideas I still have time to implement.
It's going to be all fiberglass/lexan, minimal interior stuff, and run a small battery, but I'm concerened about weight. Need to get in under 2100 wet.

Thanks Crazy driver. I think it looks good to. Always room for improvement, I'm trying to figure out it the GCR lets me extend the front supports past the strut towers to the front of the car. I don't think so but I believe I've seen it before.

So here's a thought. Is there anyway to get lateral impact protection w/o a cage. See the car will be getting a roll bar, but I don't want to do a whole cage because the car doesn see street use and I don't want to open my melon in the event of an accident. Any ideas would be appreciated. I was thinking a single lateral bar as shown in some picks, but it seems to me that it might cause more damage in a side impact then not having one.
Moved into a larger shop last month, now the work begins. I can get to all of the old long term projects I have been putting off because of space.
Also will need to do some sheet rock and electrical work to get the space up to par. So far it is great. Have segregated areas for cutting, grinding and machining. Areas for long terms and short terms and a office for the Vinyl Graphics plotter and Computers.
Would like to do some painting of the walls and floors since I will be here for a few years. Do not plan on Moving anytime soon.

New place looks great Russ! I'm pretty jealous! Every square foot of my shop is used. While it's nice to have everything w/i about 10 feet of where I'm working, it'd also be nice to build a cage w/o having to pull a door off so I can walk by the car 
There's a place about 10 miles from me that some of the local racers all rent spots at. I keep thinking that I'll rent a slot as its only about $180 per month and about double my space, but it's awfully nice to walk 15 steps from my door and start working

Here is my little beauty I have been workin on , building the car as a rally / tarmac car
for a bit of weekend fun . It has a 1 3/4 DOM main hoop and 1 1/2 DOM rest of bar work . Fully TIG welded etc etc -

LOL... his helmeted head was just above the original bar... the real problem is the front hoop being so low... but without a complete redo of the cage, the only way I could get the head clearance was the high hoop. It's only about 6" higher, but looks a whole lot higher for some reason.
Per the Prepared rules, there's a certain amount of the original frame there... the rockers up to just past the main hoop and forward to just past the front suspension points. The rear suspension is all tube frame and the front is tubed as well... but it isn't a "tube frame" car.

4pt track bar, X brace and custom seat mounts for the Kirkeys. Had to use the kirkeys, driver is over 6'3" and Momo didn't make a seat that fit the tub area and waist of driver.
