Wow casting your own housings! I'm planing on doing something like that on a smaller scale for fun, already have most of my CAD drawing done.

 

how did you locate the sleeve? that seems like that would need quite a bit of precision...

 

Inside is only rough milled, the sleeve will only be about 2mm thick when finished and there is quite alot of aluminum added to the outer contour also so the position of te sleeve is not super important at this stage

 

Yeah i'm not very good with computers at all, and in this day and age that sucks because computers are everywhere!!
Your CAD drawings look amazing though.

Out of curiosity, do you know if there is any programs that allow you to calculate balance of the e-shaft CAD model so you know the exact counterweight specifications before you have them machined?

There is a built in simulation-mode in SoildWorks that will help me alot with the balance, but of course it will be balanced in real life also.

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but--

Why cast one with the sleeve and one without?

Will you be installing a sleeve in the one without? Would you machine it first, then install it?

 

It's just for testing. I will try if it works without steel. That would be much easier. Some racing-housings are all aluminium. So I'm just playing to see which one I can use

 

Will you use nicasil as coating?

 

I don't really know yet. Don't know if nikasil works with E85 for example.

 

If you have everything correctly entered and balanced in solidworks it will be very close in real life!, I did mine e-shaft like that too, Just make the counterweights a bit more heavy then necessary, much easier to remove weight than to add weight.

Rotor housings look good! I think you can use nikasil, a lot of oem engines already do, I know a few people that are using nikasil liners with e85, seems to be fine so far. A high sulphur content fuel is bad for the nikasil, but modern fuels including e85 don't have a high sulphur content, especially not in europe. A lot of manufacturers are currently using an alusil liner, but I think alusil is casted in there, instead of being coated like nikasil, might be worth looking into
