Hi, where unsure if I should post a project thread, but gusfd3s here pushed me :)

I'm trying to build a car the way I want.
The car is an Volvo 142 -73. They are rather common i Sweden, but all of them are piston-engineed.
It started with a simple 4-link-build. But now it all has got out of hands...

I will post as much pictures as possible, but there is alot old pictures so I also link my older swedish project-thread so you all can se my progress-pictures.

By the way, what transmission is that?

That will be a sick project. Got some estimated time on the finish build, 1 to 2 years maybe?:icon_tup::icon_tup::icon_tup:

The gearbox is BMW M3/328 E36 5gear with rx7 s4 boltpattern.
I have no idea how long time the project will take actually. Will soon start to engineer the 4-rotor-shaft.
Meanwile I will fix and measure the new front suspension and frame.

Thanks for clarifying on the transmission. I've never seen a BMW one before so I was confused.
When you machine it, could you give specs on the eccentric shaft, like what material, will it be in a couple pieces? Who did the drawings for it?
I've always wanted to machine one but haven't been able to get any exact dimensions.

This is amazing keep up the good work!! Was there any mods to make the bmw tranny fit ?? Or did it bolt right up??

All drawing and machinework is made by myself. I have made the drawing in Inventor, and then I will machine it with MasterCam in a Femco CNC-Lathe, and a Matsuura Mill.
All dimension and so on will be releaved as soon as I know it works. I will not have any secrets, but don't want to make peaople build something that doesn't work. :)

No, it doesn't fit bolt on, I cutted of the boltpattern from a S4-gearbox, about 70-80mm wide I think. Same with the BMW-tranny. Then when all egdes where in line, I fixtured into a backplate of an 13B and weldet it together. Sorry, didn't take any photos of that...

The setup I'm currently using is ProEngineer with OneCNC for the code on Haas CNC mills and lathes.

Do you have any specifications for the 4-link?

I hope I will get to Gatebil also... have been there 4 years but only with a cold beer in my hand :)

I maybe have the drawing of the 4-link left at the CAD-computer, can check tomorrow.

Just curious, do you plan on fabricating the 4 rotor e-shaft your self or have some third party machinist do it for you??

Also, did you proof out the front end geometry in inventor swell?

Yes, I'm doing all the work my self. Drawing, machining, designing and building :) The only thing on the E-shaft I will give away is hardening, and polishing.

I have the print with dimensions in front of me right now ;) It's my own drawing on the picture I posted :)

No big news really, have welded the frame totally now, and it will now be ready to be put'ed in the Wolvo.

This week I will order the material to the e-shaft for the 4-rotor. Maybe I can start little next weekend to machine it :)

Are you going to grind the eshaft inhouse aswell? or are you brning it into size on a lathe?

grinding is poor way to machine something .. :lol:

Similar to the method of putting lobs on a camshaft, however judging from your repsonse.. your not :D

Hmm, not sure we understand eachother still. Let's do this, I tell you how I will machine it, and then we see if it all gets clear :)

I will order a solid material with the diamterer 112mm and 1000mm long this week. The material is compared with SAE4340, but in sweden it's called SS2541.
Then I cut it down to 700mm for the main shaft and 2x 150mm pieces for the two outer lobs.

I will cut the middle part in the CNC-lathe, and then turn the two inner lobs in my manuel lathe.
So I will turn the excenters as well.
When I have about 1.0mm left on the diameter on the lobs I send it to harden, then I will grind(polish) it down to about +0.06mm.
Then I send it to nitrering (not sure about the word).
Then I will polish the last down to correct dimension.
The inner diameter of the lobs I will turn in my CNC-lathe aswell.

Also all milling of gears, holes and so on I will do myself.

Hopefuly my pics in future will tell you more :)
As always I try to do all machining, designing and welding myself.

I work in a workshop that manufacture water turbins. There I work with two CNC-mills, one small Matsuura with 700x400mm table, and one big Kiheung 4+2axles with 3000x1200x2000mm movement. I mill often 3D-blades like those in a propeller and so on... Much time in the CAD/CAM.
