I'm just getting done moving into a new BIGGER shop. Its taken me three weeks and I still have to take down my 2 post lift. I've moved my two RX2's, my EP RX7 and the Bugeye into their new home. I'll try to get a pic for you tomorrow.

No Problem! Good luck with the move, a bigger shop is a good thing. I wish I had a shop to work in, I'm doing all my work outside under a homemade carport. A real backyard build for me.

Hey Stu hope all is well. I got the 12 circuit painless kit and it been a learning experience for sure. Hey did you ever get your stuff from Robert at the rotary shack? I have done business with them before and was going to order some more stuff but I've seen alot of static about people not getting there goods. Should I go elsewhere? Also any thought on a fuel system, type of pump, regulator, gauge etc. I'm getting ready to install that next. Thanks Dave.

Glad to hear about the painless

As far as rotaryshack goes, still haven't gotten my parts yet. Give him a call and he never answers (both phones or email). I guess it is a hit or miss with him if you do decide to go with it. In all honesty I would look somewhere else, that way you know you will get what you ordered when they say they have it.

Stu, sorry to hear you haven't got the goods. I'll take that advice, thanks. Any thought on a fuel system for the Bugeye? Dave.

More wires

Still wiring, ugh! This is worse than all the cutting and welding.

I finally got time and remembered to take the camera to the shop. Here is the poor dusty girl with her engine and interior out. Its getting a resto-refresh this winter. Its been living under my race car on the lift for too long, she finally gets her own piece of floor! And, I finally got everything to do the Datsun 210 5 sp conversion and I'm looking at putting Miata seats in it so I can have a head rest. I may take a pic of the engine on the stand so people can see how small a 1275 is.

That's nice, what year is it. I luv the color, what is that a midnight blue? That 210 project sound cool, I had a Datsun B210 Honey Bee back in the day. Used to do 3rd gear donuts, what a fun car, I think I sold it for a couple hundred, wish I kept it. Thanks for the pic. Dave

Its a '59, the color is actually a VW color from about 4 years ago. It was popular on the Phaeton. Very dark blue, slight metallic. I still have a small pint of it with the code and color name if you want.

I have a stock grill for it as well but its getting replated. The lights are H4's with 55/100w bulbs, real flame throwers on the high beams.

When you go to cover that dash here's a little trick; find motorcycle seat vinyl. It stretches in all directions and makes it easy to cover all the curves. Put some 1/4" foam on the flat surface and then stretch the vinyl over it holding it all with 3M spray contact adhesive. Then put the little clips on the back edge to hold it forever.

Yeah if you can get me that paint info that would be great, I like it and might use that with aviation gray strips. Thanks for the info on the dash, I like that motorcycle seat material idea, I'll try it for sure. I'm using 4H lights as well and glad to hear they work well. What are you doing for the gas tank. I'm removed the one that hung below the rear deck and would like to install a tank or cell inside the rear storage area and maybe mount a spare where the tank was. What do you think.

I restored the stock tank by cleaning it out with muratic acid and sealing it with Hirsch's tank sealer. There were a few pin holes in the now 50 y-o tank but some 2 part metal putty sealed up the holes and the tank sealer protects the putty from the fuel. I had to cut a hole in the bottom of the tank to remove the little screen on the fuel pick up and then weld it back up. The other option was a new tank for about $200.

The stock tank is so small it wouldn't take you very far feeding a rotary! I would keep whatever tank you use under the rear floor for the room and a little bit of safety. Maybe a Jaz cell that you could feed through the stock hole with some hose for boat fuel tanks?

Getting the hang of it!

Finally, the wiring is moving along and the complete rewiring and switch install should be done this weekend. Time for the cooling system, any suggestion on a Rad and fans set-up?

i thought the painless harness kits were supposed to be really easy and painless? is this a case of not knowing wiring or is it trouble shootin or what? im horrible when it comes to wiring unless i start from the beginning and do everything myself. really cool project too. the only otehr bugeye swap ive seen adn liked was a f20c conversion

Hey 13B, the painless kit ain't so painless, LOL! Actually it was trying to install all of the support wiring, switches, grommets, sockets, loom, relays, shrink wrap, connectors, clamps, grounds, etc in a orderly/neat manner in such limited spaces that was a pain. I'll tell you one thing labeling in your best friend when doing a complete re-wire. Once you stuff a 1/2 dozen wires in a loom it not so clear what goes where. Also cut wires to proper lengths and bundling them properly is also a challenge! Thanks for the kind works, stay tuned as next weeks project is install of fuel and cooling systems. Thanks again, Dave

My friend bought a American Wiring Kit about the same time, it was $70 cheaper and just as painful. LOL, I'm not a fan of wiring as you can see. Also, I like the color coding idea along with the labels. I guess it painless if you are using the existing fixtures and support wiring in the host vehicle. But since the Bugeye was a positive ground British system from 1959 I had to remove everything and run new. I'm sure my inexperiance had something to due with it as well.

are you still using lever shocks? if so i recomend trying to find some comptunes or switching them out for something tubular. the originals like to ever heat and arent very good

Yeah I'm leaving the levers all the way around, as I like that Go-kart feeling they have. I am having them modified and re-valved by a local British car specialist to handle the added stress they will encounter. Also install poly bushings and one off sway bar to stiff the movement. As for over heating, I will see how that goes and in the future when I have to replace the rear-end, I'll take your advice and upgrade. Thanks, Dave

Yeah Jeff purpose built pedals for sure, no flash there. I have some flashy aluminum/carbon fiber pedal covers, but will only use them for show.
