Finished up the exhaust and installed injector plugs. Awaiting side draft intake and carbs from the Rotaryshack and it should be ready to fire up!!!!!! Also worked on interior as well.

jgrewe 07-23-09 04:20 PM

I hope you keep the starter knob for a little vintage feel.

Bugeye RX 07-24-09 03:12 PM

Good Idea, I definitely will! Thanks

Update-2. The intakes and carbs are done and on there way here from RotaryShack. Thanks to Robert at the shack, he is a great guy and really has helped me out with this project. I'll post a pic once it is installed.

sweet love the carb setup that bugeye is gonna move how heavy is the car?

Bugeye RX 08-02-09 05:58 PM

Thanks, Fly. I'm trying to keep the weight around 1500Lbs which was stock for this bugeye and it's original 948CC motor. With the 13B I'm expecting great burn-outs and donuts but going over a hundred my be scary as the chassis was rated for top speed of 85 or something crazy like that. Oh well will look sick for sure.

OneRotor 08-02-09 07:59 PM

I received a ride in a ~63 Bug Eye Sprite with 115whp out of the stock motor (weber side drafts, cammed, lightened/knife edge crank, forged rods, high comp. pistons, etc.) when I was on Siesta Key, FL on New Years day 2009, and the thing was an absolute rocket. The 7 connection was that he had a custom aluminum adapter plate and had a S5 TII trans backing up the motor. You will absolutely love the car. Good work. G'luck.

Bugeye RX 08-03-09 07:23 PM

Thanks Whitey, I'm figuring the 13b with webers should be around 150 hp so I thinking this thing will be quick, I'll post a Vid of my 1st burn-out.

When do we get a up close and personal look at this project? Being from CT. I would love to see it in person at one of our VMRC meets.

PercentSevenC 08-04-09 01:58 PM

Nice looking intake setup. Are you going to retain functional aux. ports, or just remove the sleeves?

the 6 port sleeves have been removed in favor of clearance in the tight bugeye engine bay, welded up all egr and other smog ports then a slight port job to increase flow. this bugeye is gonna fly!!

Bugeye RX 08-05-09 07:03 PM

Super "C" this project is on track for late Sept completion, except the paint, so I'd love to come to one of your meet and get some opions and advice and meet some good folks. Keep me posted on your meets. Is there a web site? Thanks again, Dave.

Bugeye RX 08-05-09 07:08 PM

%7C, Sleeves are removed as 680R states and he should know built this bad ass intake. I post some pics of it installed soon. Thanks, Dave

Bugeye RX 08-05-09 07:12 PM

Hey Robert, your intake has many admirers and the biggest one is ME! I've looked at that pic 100's times and am at awe every time. Thanks AGAIN, Dave.

Bugeye RX 08-06-09 07:16 PM

Hey Kevin, Yeah pretty different look compared to todays cook-cutter styles. Its a 1500lbs Austin Healy so with the 13b jammed in there I should get some raised eyebrows as I blow passed the local traffic. Thats a pretty sweet Mazdeere you have your self, does it blow good dounuts? LOL Thanks, Dave

Hey, all received and installed the Rotary Shack intake system and man does it look sweet. Thanks to Robert at the Rotary Shack, the dude knows his stuff, give a try.

Jeezus 08-11-09 03:07 PM

WONDERFUL CAR!

My grandmother used to race these cars back when they came out, against 427 vettes and whatnot. Slaughtered them :D

PLEASE keep posting!

Jeezus 08-11-09 03:08 PM

PS: Do the upgrade to front discs.

Bugeye RX 08-11-09 08:17 PM

Thanks Jeezus, I here these little bugger fly. And once I replenish my funds which were quickly depleted on the motor I will do the the disc upgrade for sure. I'm getting into the wiring now so I'll keep the updates come. V/R Dave.

jgrewe 08-11-09 09:44 PM

Throw out the stock harness totally and get a "Painless" harness and fuse box.

Bugeye RX 08-12-09 06:50 PM

Thanks JG. I give the painless a try where do you suggest I look for this, Summit racing?

teddyrx2 08-22-09 04:11 PM

car looks really nice with headlight upgrade and the intake system...

anything new yet??

jgrewe 08-23-09 02:03 PM

Summit is where I bought mine, IIRC its an 8 circuit. About $100 but its been about 5 years since I bought it.

Just to let you know, my '59 Bugeye with a built 1275(cam, weber 40 DCOE etc) faded the dual cylinder front drums without even trying. Get the Midget discs, they bolt right on and you can get good pads, you will need all the brakes you can get.

If you have not driven a Bugeye, they are a blast. Its about driving a slow car fast over a fast car slow. The problem is ours are fast and the handling can be twitchy with the 1/4 springs in the back. The Spax shocks you can get to replace the stock levers in the rear help a little.

Permission to post a pic of mine in your thread?? Its getting a little touch up since the full restoration, even thinking about Megasquirting the 1275...
