If I'm looking at nudity on the internet, I usually don't have enough hands free to type out a post...
Maybe I havent hung out there long enough to see how interesting it is.
lol, it's just a nice place to shoot the ****, really... There's nothing special about it, hence why it's called "The Forum Lounge"
I think if anything, it's simplicity is what draws people there... That and all the people they love to hate are around to argue with...

As well as various abbreviations or acronyms to imply your immaturity, such as: "GDHSF" and "STFU noob". State facts that have nothing to do with the original arguement to appear intelligent and begin the picture warfare with such gems as:

Doesnt make sense.. The way switchs work there would be no advantage to 2 ports. Its likely a bridge/repeater like someone else said.

Being that it's a switch, it'll take a list of all MAC addresses on port 1 and all MAC addresses on port 2... All packets from anything on port 1 destined for anything on port 1 stay on port 1's side... Same is true for port 2. The only thing it will pass is anything destined for something on the foreign port...
A 2 port switch IS a bridge. Layer 2 device... Unless it's a really spiffy Layer 3 Switch where it grabs IP addresses rather than MAC addresses... I highly doubt it is though. Those things are expensive and don't usually come in small port counts.
The only thing it'll do is break up your collision domain.
It is essentially useless from computer to computer, except as a repeater. HOWEVER, if you had two [strike]lunches![/strike] rooms full of computers, each room of computers was networked by an individual hub, the switch would go great between the two.
But how often do you see entire workgroups plugged into a single large hub? Once you get above 24 ports, I say a switch is MANDATORY... But I have come across several 100ish port hubs.
Somewhat ripped off from one of my old Cisco CCNA books, Semester 1 network basics.
Case study:
XYZ inc. has a Sales/Marketing/Accounting department and an Engineering/Technical department... XYZ inc. is a startup company in the cutting edge widget industry. Being a startup, budget is limited. (Otherwise, I'd tell them to shove it and buy a big *** switch.) After spending all thier cash on a building and machinery and purchasing the work stations, they realized they didn't have enough cash for much else. So they bought a pair of 3Com 24 port hubs used on eBay, one for each department.
The Sales/Marketing/Accounting department has workstations for 20 employees and a couple servers for their databases. All are linked by a hub. On a busy day, you can see the collision indicator on the hub blink frequently.
The Technical/Engineering department has high end workstations for 20 more employees, a file server, and a huge graphics plotter, also linked by a hub. When large files are transferred to multiple users here, you can see the collision indicator blink also.
Internal department traffic is high. The Technical department shovels around huge CAD files and source code for their new upcoming UltraMegaWidget... The Marketing department has customer databases and electronic accounting databases. This type of data needs only stay within the department.
Occasionally, data needs to be shared. Sales team needs to send special customer requests to the technical team. Technical team needs to send specs to the marketing team. Technical team needs to check on the budget to order parts. Sales team needs to check on production status... So on and so forth... They used to sirculate memos, but memos suck. They're slow and use paper. Plus some people never got them and kept on using the old cover sheets on their TPS reports.
They decided to link the two department hubs with a cable but now the collision lights were going apeshit because there was too much network traffic.
How to solve the problem?

I wasnt actually trying to figure out the TECHNICAL reason behind it as i already know what it would do. I was asking about the REASONING why someone would think that would be a good idea (only 2 ports instead of at least 4 ports)

The only difference between a switch and a bridge is number of ports... (Likewise with a hub and a repeater.)
It all boils down to cost.
