I get it and take it for my own test drive.. it WON'T go over 4 grand with the pedal depressed. I'm like.. wtf?
After driving it for like 10 minutes and the idle dying everytime I dropped it into neutral, I take it back. Friends tell me the exhaust looks like it's burning, it's flaming red. Smoke starts to come out of the engine slowly at first, but then a steady stream.. and you hear a crackle. Then another.
Apparently the best guess is some kind of bug family made its home in the exhaust, and either were rudely burned alive or their nest was.
Got the money back, probably buying the Corrola when I check it out tomorrow.
Differences from the picture I showed.. not much really. Obviously it needs a bit of a wash and the rust is very evident around the wheel wells, but you have to live with that I guess. Engine bay is kinda dirty, same with the trunk.
I'm pretty disappointed b/c it sounded like the car was clean, and if only the guy had driven it or kept it in a garage, it probably wouldn't have gotten in such bad shape.

whoa.
so i went to my Salvo to get plugs for the car...and i ended up talking to one of the guys who works there.
he's got an 83 FB, 75k orig miles. minor rusting on the door panels, poopyish interior. runs strong, has the typical vaccuum and leak issues. he's asking $4-500 for it. i'm going to check it out tomorrow - let me know if you want pics or info about it. he wants it gone ASAP.

ya.
i'm debating(though i've been yelled at a few times by people for considering it since i really shouldn't...). i'm going to check it out tomorrow.
at the very least, if my resolve hangs in there and i DON'T buy it, i'll help this guy get rid of it.

If only I hadn't bought that wonderful Corrola I now have
The corrola came with a ribbed back supporter, half a bottle of gatorade, half of a golf club (to hold the hood open) and a check engine light that came on tonight and then went off :<

Car #2 = Black 1983 GSL. 100ishK miles. Supposed parts car. Didn't start engine, but allegedly ran last time it was shut down. Looked in good shape. Less rust than Car#1. Need to remove sludge from gas tank and flush lines. Well worth the additional $250 he wants for it.
I'd jump on the deal, but I'd attempt to talk him down to $600 for the set first.

Car #1 = Tender Blue Metallic (Or as close to it as I'd think it can be... I didn't check the paint code plate.) 1983 GSL (Limited Slip Diff, Rear disc brakes.) 160ishK miles. (IIRC) Slight dowel pin oil leak needs to be cleaned to really tell for sure. Bad shutter valve (Quick fix. Fix resultes in slightly more backfiring on decel, but not anything bad at all.) Looked like new alternator and battery, interior was in pretty good shape. Some rust under rear wheel wells/behind storage bins... Repairable. New-esque tires. Well worth the $500 he wants for it.

my friend would probably want a jump on this one, where is he located?

same block as a 4age but weaker crank with less flywheel bolts. DOHC but with less valve angle and carburated... it's the precurser to the 7a-fe in the mid '90's corollas.
it's an ae92 chassis code, so you might be able to find info about it on club4ag.. but club4ag is mostly ae86 owners... and ae92 GTS owners... (people who have cars with 4age's basically
) If you want to put a 4age in that car though, it'd be a fun upgrade... and you could megasquirt it and get better emissions than stock

just because it's not the same engine doesn't mean those guys won't know where to get parts. trust me...they're knowledgeable when it comes to that GENERATION corolla.
