as much as we destroy these engines on a regular basis it should not be a problem getting you a shot rotor to play with

i'm much happier avoiding preakness. i don't care about horse racing, and i'm not a heavy drinker...therefore, what's the point?

besides...the cam4 was heavy in the air friday and saturday nights...mm mm tasty.

cam2 is awesome stuff... smells so sweet when it burns...

leaded gas smells so much better ... i love having no cats and a carb that loves leaded fuel

no one here would know what cam2 is REALLY for anywyas... only thing high compression about a rotorhead is their ego (j/k)

Ok muythaibxr/tofuball: I just finished reading about 5000 pages worth of info on the megasquirt and I think I wanna try it out. Maybe even on the FD. Whats the fastest way to get this thing in my hands? Like if I could get it into my hands today, that would be great (I know thats probably unreasonable though).

The fastest way would be to find someplace to buy it, and then find someone to mod it for the rx7.

I've never tried to use one on an FD, or even a Turbo FC, so here are some notes:

1) In order to get stock leading ignition working, you have to build a dual lm1815 circuit (or let someone do it for you)

2) to get this thing to do ignition at all you need to upgrade to the MSnS-extra firmware.

3) Other small mods to the megasquirt are necessary to get ignition working as well.

4) The code for trailing ignition is in early stages, and it's not ready to go in a car yet... I'll probably be the first to get it working once it's ready though ;-)

I can tell you all the mods that are necessary, and I'm sure tofuball wouldn't mind showing off how nice his car runs now on megasquirt with my mods... and I can show you the dual lm1815 vr conditioner circuit and mods necessary to get the stock CAS/stock ignition working. Keep in mind that if tofuball shows you his car, most of the wiring is still in "prototype" state... after we get trailing ignition working, we're going to clean up the wiring and make it look nice.

To answer your original question, I have an un-modded megasquirt that was slated to go in the ae86 that I can sell to you... (but then you'll still need to do other mods to get it controlling ignition and to get it to use the stock CAS).

If you don't mind building one yourself, I recommend doing so because you learn a lot more and will be more familiar with the board layout when it's time to make the mods.

You can get one in kit form from here:

http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/p...products_id=28

They also have them prebuilt at $270... I could let you come over and take a look at my extra one that I have sitting around, and describe the mods that are necessary and if you're still up for it, I'll sell you mine for $250 (I have another extra one that a friend is messing around with to learn how it works on the stimulator). With this option you could have it in your hands as early as tomorrow evening... although it wouldn't be something you could just hook up and have running.

PM or IM me to let me know, I'm pretty sure you can get my IM from the board... if not, it's hachiae86roku.

I was going to build it myself but after reading over the megasquirt site it looks like theres upto a 2 month wait on getting the stuff and I don't want to wait that long. I actually plan on running 2 so I don't necessarily mind ordering and building the second one. How much do you want for you spare with the ignition mods done or atleast the necessary hardware to build the ignition module already fished out. I don't expect this to be a plug and play operation so if you're not up to supplying the other stuff thats fine.

I've also seen Jason's wiring... lol. I was at fudds with you guys this past meet. As a matter of fact, I'm the guy that sat at the table with you and Jason and was asking him about the progress. I think I was sitting in your seat when you came back from getting your food.

In any case I'm willing to buy your spare megasquirt whenever you're ready.

Ahh ok, the megasquirt setup is working much better than it was when you last saw it... In fact, jason tells me that in most situations, it works noticably better than stock... IE right now it idles so smooth you can barely feel it, and to test the super low-end, jason put the car in 4th gear at a stop-sign, and was able to get the car moving without stalling and without TOO much feathering of the clutch... the revs dropped all the way to like 350-400, and the engine didn't stall.

As for the wiring... yeah I'll fix that when we get trailing working... like I said, half of it was done as a permenant job, and the other half was done to fix problems quickly, so it's a mess right now.

That site I posted usually is able to get you stuff within a few days, a week tops if you still want to build it yourself.

With the ignition mods that I did to jason's car... hrmm would you also want to be able to control the BAC valve for fast idle on warm-up? Do the FD's even have these?

If you want me to do the bac valve and ignition mods, I have to order some parts from digi-key (2 lm1815 chips, a ztx688 transistor, maybe a couple of capacitors and resistors).... I'll sell you the modded one for idunno what's fair... $320? I can't have it ready by tomorrow though, I'd have to order the parts, wait for them to ship, assemble them, and test them...

I'll sell the unmodded one for $250, and I'll give you my advice for free... I can see if my friend is willing to part with the other one too... most likely if you want one of them or both, I'll just have you paypal the money to his account since I owe him money... (he and I own the ae86 together, that way modding it costs half as much for each of us but he's spent more on it than I have, so I owe him plus we each have our own daily drivers..)

At this point on jason's car, everything except trailing ignition...

That requires the guy who writes the firmware to fix a bug, and requires me to run 2 more wires out of the megasquirt and into 2 wires on the factory harness.

oh yeah, the main problem we were having at the fudds meet was the value of a pull-up resistor was too low, and was causing excessive current drain on the +5v voltage regulator inside the megasquirt... That was causing the temperature sensors to read too hot, and was causing the TPS and MAP signals to be noisy... causing the car to stall due to too much fuel sometimes...

I changed that resistor from a 1k resistor to a 4.7k resistor... problem solved.

I might have to upgrade the voltage regulator to one that can handle a higher current draw too if the same thing happens when we put the trailing ignition in. I may pull jason's trailing coil/ignitor assembly out tomorrow and mess with it to find out its characteristics. (nothing like an o-scope for that).

Have you ever done a megasquirt on a 1st gen (gsl-se)?

By my understanding (meaning I haven't confirmed yet) the Idle Air Control of the FD is practically the same as the FC BAC. They both look alike and produce the same resistance as well and for all intents and purposes, do the same thing. The FD does however also have the AWS (Accelerated Warm-up System) Solenoid. I don't see why I wouldn't be able to to just make a block-off plate for this and use the IAC for accelerated warmup if I wanted it.
