DC Area thread - The District, NoVa, Maryland
My car has Efini badges and they do not believe it's a 93 Mazda. They said I swapped VINs and that in turn is insurance fraud. They also could not find a serial number on my engine. I was arrested and my car put in impound.
WTF? That sounds like complete bull ****. How did this even come about?
IIRC the VIN should be stamped in the firewall and on the door sticker, do they not match your VIN Tag? This sounds like a witch hunt. I would sue the everloving sh*t out of them and cite incompetence. Just because they don't know rotary cars doesn't give them the right to impound the car and put you in jail.
Here is a post showing some photos of the motor serial number location: Engine Number

That's ridiculous, there has got to be some legal action you can do.
It's stupid that the arresting officer could go through the VIN check, booking, and impound process without hesitation to do a simple google image search showing hundreds of FD's under "mazda rx7". Linking Efini to Mazda would take one more click...
Wish I could help, but don't know any lawyers around. Any competent one would absolutely destroy this bogus charge though. Good luck.

All my VINs match and they believe I swapped them all over from another car. And I don't have enough money or time to sue DC. I just want my car back if that is even possible.
Guess what you're going to have to do to get it back. Find a lawyer. If everything you've said is true you have a guaranteed win. That means money for you and him.
Everyone should come to the next Capital Driving Club Autox 6/29/13 at James Wood High School in Winchester, VA. This event is open to getting a second slot for $10, this past weekend each slot had 7 runs.

If I end up going, it will be a half day. I have daddy duties in the afternoon

You now know the score, but for anyone else that is wondering my FB is still in process of getting it's rear end swapped. When I originally did the swap I ran into a snag. There was excessive run-out on the left rear caliper once I got the replacement rear end mounted up. I didn't have enough time at that point to really look at it but might be a bent half-shaft, or assembly error. I am hoping to work on it some more this weekend to isolate the true issue and finish it off. If I can't, I am going to be in the FD again (or the GT6) for the event on the 29th. I'll be running morning only though due to family obligations

that being said.... my car is still broken
I am shooting to get my car done by the 29th. In the middle of putting the PS rack/pump back in and ran into a parts snafu. Ordered the parts and they didn't come in at the store when they said
If I get everything finished this w/e I should be in good shape and will sign up. I didn't do a single AutoX last year and only 2 the year before so I'm gonna be super rusty. Go easy on me!

After finally getting the LIM and 2nd turbo leaks fixed, the FD is almost ready for auto-x!! I just need some new tires as the current ones are a bit dry-rotted and then I should be good to go for a Sunday TnT event. Looking forward to reacquainting myself with the RX crew. Hope everyone is well!

Had something like this happen in my A4. Cost me 1,500 to get all the charges dropped but they let me drive my car home. This state sucks , and DC is worse.
These cars have the best timing. Tachometer and speedometer failed on the way to work this morning. The odometer went out a couple of years ago. Inspection next month too. Always something.....always something with the FD. Uggghhhh.

(Granted there are some other things to factor in)
