hi all

i need to show the engine number to get my december 1991 built JDM FD registered in australia

did the big forum search and found it should be stamped just behind the alternator.
even found the image someone posted from the page of the usa owners manual showing the drawing of where it should be and someone else's photo of the blue and silver number plate on the remanufactured engine

but my car has nothing behind the alternator....

my search also turned up this majik reply to an engine number Q

"There should be a serial number one the water pump housing and/or one of the rear housing."

so my question 2 questions are

1. is it possible that some of the early FD engines didn't have engine numbers?

2. if the number could be on the rear housing, where exactly would be the best place to start looking?
