Hey guys yeah long time no see. Hope everyone is happy and healthy.
Due to it being such a nice day I went to get mine out earlier today to give her a bath. Unfortunately for me, she did not start right up. Battery is dead and wont come back with the charger. This has me thinking about putting in a lithium car battery like the ones from Antigravity (Example). Anyone have any experience?

My go to has been the 4 year free replacement AGM batteries from Pep-Boys, for a while you could buy them online with a 15% off coupon and pickup in store. I wouldn't buy a "money" battery until your drivetrain swap is done :P

Since you've provided a seasonal update I'll give one too:

My car is in pieces, stripped all the way down to the chassis, almost everything removed, and still NOT off to paint.

I have 7 cars and probably 3 working batteries at this point. One of my thoughts on the Li battery was that it will tolerate sitting around much better and it will be much lighter to install/remove and put into whichever car I want to drive at the time. Also. I am hoping the slightly higher voltage will help with my click click start problem

That's a little bit unbelievable but I guess IRP's current backup is just ridiculous. At the onset of my decision to proceed with paint I felt like I set a healthy budget with a 10% incidental allowance for what needed to be done, it wasn't enough for some of the esteemed "pro" shops in the area which blew my mind. There's no way I'm OK with being $20k into body and paint so I have had to keep searching.

While that makes sense I still think you would be better off buying one or two cheaper AGM batteries and a trickle charger for them. You would probably still be in for less that one of the Li batteries and not have to worry about spilling.

DMV is like any large urban area. You're going to pay through the teeth for anything. Alternative is to find someplace out of the area that's good and reasonable, but good luck trying to find that. Luckily paint and body is a common service, unlike say rotary engines.

And IRP, what can i say. Think they've grown faster than they can manage. Anyone have experience with RPM?

Alright, some action on this dormant page. Doing well here, Matt. Hope you are too. Yeah, I've put in a little more than 100 miles in 2 years but not much more. At least our cars are appreciating quite a bit if we ever want to cash it in as clean FD's are getting rarer by the year. I do need to get it out and on the road here soon - but kind of rough with premium at $5/gallon which equates to $5 for 15-20 mpg. Hopefully we can meet up at some point this summer. Is auto-x going on this summer? I haven't seen any emails in a while.

In for opinions on RPM, thinking about traveling 8+ hours for oil pan and tune work.
Thanks

I’ve been to RPM a few times since they moved to Hagerstown. Mike is a solid guy who cares about what he’s doing. I’ve never had anything done by him personality, but I’ve viewed his work and would feel confident in taking my car there. A fellow fd owner local to me speaks highly of him and mike does most of his work. I’m not sure about their back log that’s something you would have to get in touch with them on but they actually answer the phone and / or call you back.

Hi Sorry, I'm new here, so I just wanted to post to see if there is a place or person that may want a 2008 Rx8. I just found out that the compression in the engine is low and that since they can't locate a used engine to replace it that I pretty much have a great looking piece of junk. Before I hand it over to the junk yard, I thought I'd check the forums and see if there is anything that can either be done or some advice I can get

If the car is in decent shape and you only need a replacement short block, you can still buy a reman thru Mazda for the rx8. There is a couple venders on here that sell them as well. If you’re looking to sell, your best bet would be on the rx8 forum but the classified here will allow you to sell anything. You will need a higher post count to make a listing tho.

Anyone plan on attending the "7s day" event on July 9th at NJMP? There is a Facebook event for the event. It's free to come. The "show" is $25. It appears everyone can park in the paddock at thunderbolt so it'll be a nice area to hang and walk around.

I will be at njmp for the day on Saturday. It’s only a two hour hike from Annapolis. A few other from this area and lower Pennsylvania I know are attending as well. If anyone would like to link up on the way there, shoot me a PM.

I'm planning on going on the Saturday, 7/9, but that all assumes I don't have to work thru the weekend - a temporary work project commitment MIGHT end up buggering up that weekend for me, hoping it doesn't!

Hi all! New member here, looking to make some rotary friends. Recently bought a 93 FD. I don't have any knowledge of rotary at all. The car was purchased from an older gentleman and sat for a very long time, over a year and a half without being driven. Car seems to be in good shape but definitely needs a lot of maintenance done. Is someone willing to meet up and look the car over with a trained eye? Maybe give me some pointer what needs to be done first and what is critical. I don't even know how to change oil in the thing, honestly the car scars me abit. Just way too different from anything I have or had. Car is located in Leesburg at the moment.

Hey there, welcome, I actually do side jobs on these cars in the area and i am located in Northern VA by Gainesville... I do house calls from time to time as (garage preference for those rain dates and in case the car needs to be taken apart LOL)
Feel free to message me directly and we can setup some time one of these weekends to go over it!

Oh dear

Recommend you get smart on the car by researching this site. There's a lot of good info (and some bad)

A good place to start are the stickies and a key one in particular

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...l-links-68640/

You should also download the Factory Service Manual (FSM). That's the bible for a stock FD (if yours is JDM RHD, the USDM LHD FSM may not apply to some things)

My first recommendation is to do a compression check. That will give you a baseline on your rotor seals (think of cylinder rings). Then do a water pressure test. This will let you know if you have any leaks in your engine water seals (think head gasket). From there, change all the fluids and put in new spark plugs. If your compression and water seals are good, you should be GTG.

IMO, the bad on this site are all the mods. There's some "reliability" mods that are worthwhile, but generally mods are a slippery slope. A stock FD is a well balanced car and once you start messing with it, it gets out of balance.

Good luck

I didn't even know about the NJMP event in July. You all motivated me to finish putting my interior back together before then so I can bring it.
