Clean and polish them to the like new condition if you want, or paint them some neutral color to the car and the color of the wheels if you want to have an easier time cleaning them!
This is a long shot, but does anyone have a spare driver side door unlock cable thing? The long thin metal rod that goes from the outside door lock to the inside lock switch mechanism? Mine's funky and bent and it makes it really hard to lock/unlock the door. I could probably bend mine back into the right shape if I had another to go by, or purchase a replacement outright if you have one kicking around in a parts bin somewhere. Don't want to risk trying to ship one of these and have it bent in transit.

I haven't myself at all but I'm fairly close to 495 and constantly hear cars and motorcycles ripping it like they own it. Seems like a great time to take the FD into the city for rare pictures against "monumental" backdrops. It hasn't been in the city in two decades at least - not at all a smooth ride.

Matt, you could put some electronic poppers attached directly to the catch. That way you don't have to worry about those bars, the locks, or the handles breaking anymore. It will still work like normal from inside the car if you want, but now the doors will un-latch when you hit a button like a modern car I was thinking about doing this a couple years back because the resistance in my key latch keeps slowly breaking my key.

Think of about the same amount of traffic as there usually is around 10am, it's just all day long now (even during rush hours). It is really odd if you know what the traffic patterns should be, but not really too noticeable if you don't look at the clock.

Nice - I'm going to have to take a picture like that with my FD now. Thanks for the inspiration! I'm pretty much unemployed - so staying home has been the standard and why I need to break up the monotony. But it's not like I haven't been out - yes, I know it's not deserted as I was just being hyperbolic. (But I have a friend who took a motorcycle ride into DC last weekend on a gorgeous day and took pictures of Key Bridge and M Street completely empty - not a single car on either!) Other than getting into a car accident, the confines of a car are probably much safer than the walking path next to my place, where many people do laps on nice days. And you're also missing my point - the FUN is being IN the car and DRIVING with less cars in the way overall, and not the destination per se. Well, somewhat the destination as I try to think of far off places I can drive to for good take-out.

Minivans, RAM trucks, Priuses, and Camrys - all going 90-100. I can do that in bursts but it's crazy for extended periods of time. But when I pass a "racer" car, I try to discretely pass. They're usually doing 65 minding their own business and I'll be doing 70-75 minding my own business. But then they must feel disrespected and get butt hurt or something, because they'll pull next to me, rev, and then haul *** with me or pass me. Sometimes they'll pull behind me and tailgate for a bit, before blowing by me with their loud *** exhausts. WTH. I think they're just jealous. These are the S2000's, Civics, Mazda3's, Subaru's, Mustangs and hardly ever the Corvettes, Teslas, Porsches, or supercars - cars with nothing to prove.

Agree, same here with the zig-zagin!
If traffic (minivans, trucks, priuses, camry, etc) are doing 90-100, seems to be that the traffic speed, anything below should be done in the "slow" lane.
If there is a room for quick burst on an alone stretch, I would do a quick one gear pull with any car enthusiast. I wouldn't call it jealousy, just car enthusiast.

That's why I never drive over 55mph. All the yahoos get too bored driving along with me and leave me alone.
The last time I tried to run a guy on the highway I ended up in his lane at a 45* angle toward the Jersey wall. I downshifted to second and lost all traction. It was most ridiculous.

Something similar happened to me during one of Rocky's fall ride, except that I didn't downshift and ended up causing an accident SMH!
What tire size are you on? Was it a cool/cold day?

that's a good idea! I might take the fd for a drive 👀. I'm swapping transmission and replacing some stuff but it should be ready this weekend.

Is there a write you can point to for this mod? Or any vendors that make a kit? Im tired of remaking keys. Passenger side key doesnt even engage for me. Would love to just hit a button like a "modern" car, if its an easy enough mod.

Sorry, I don't know of anyone doing a write-up on it. I was just going to do it myself as I enjoy figuring these things out. There are pretty much two ways you could do it:
1) Buy yourself some door poppers (the style that hot-rodders use when they shave their door handles). These install as a puller on the latch and then have a spring pusher that allows the car door to open about an inch. You then just grab the door and open it the rest of the way. The good thing about this is it's relatively simple to do, the bad part is that you may need to drill a hole for the pusher and may (depending on how you set it up) lose some functionality of the stock door.
2) Tap an actuator or relay into the stock unlocking system. If you noticed, the doors do have a powered unlock (usually done via internal handle) figuring out how this is done is probably not too hard and you could use a modern clicker system to activate it if needed. Downside is that it is a little more involved.
However, another problem with both of these systems is that you are going to have to disable your alarm system & immobilizer. This is relatively simple if you know how, but if you don't install a secondary alarm system or fuel cutoff you might be less secure.
I'll let the forum know if I ever end up doing it, but it is pretty far down on my to-do list because I drive the car so rarely anymore and it's parked in a locked/alarmed garage so it isn't even locked when I get in/out.

One thing you can search for is replacing the mechanism in your driver's side door with one from a RHD car. Since the passenger side always has a powered lock, that way you'd have them on both sides. Then you'd just need a remote/controller to actuate them. I do somewhat recall doing it this way loses you some of the functionality on the control panel though but I don't remember what.

Good point, I need to soften my stance. A car the other day slammed on its brakes as I got onto 495, effectively blocking my merge. I was annoyed but when I passed him, he was full-on gawking and giving me the thumbs up.
