So to take the photos and put them in words - you can mount a speaker with a mounting depth of 2 1/2" or maybe a max of 2 5/8" mounting depth.
Gives everyone something to work with.
Thanks for the photos!

Awesome, now i dont have to do the fit test. Looks like top depth is still gonna be about 2.5 max. Ok now for some other things. Can you mount a speaker and get the door panel back on and not have the speaker cone hitting the grill. Check fitment of door panel with speaker. turn it up and tell us how it sounds.

looking at the tape measure again looks like it may mount deeper than 2.5. I bet you could get 2 9/16 or 2 5/8. but thats cutting it real close. It would take some experimentation with some speakers to tell what we could mount. Also, If there is more clearance on the door panel side we could have the builder extend that speaker mounting ring for deeper speakers.

First off...any thanks should go to the guy who initiated the project: boostd4

followed by evot23 for taking the time to take all of the photos.

I'm just the schmuck who donated the cores and then bought another FD!

I personally do not have any 6" speakers running around...I will see if what Eddie's schedule is like and perhaps we can dig some up and test this week. Quite frankly that is getting a bit more involved than I ever expected but if the Forum demands it....so be it! =)

@Bob H...I believe that is a very nice summary of the photos. Thank you.

So if you guys dont have time I have a set of alpine type R components 2009 models sitting in the box ready to go in. I already have an amp and wires run to the kickpanels where i plan on intalling the crossovers. Still have no idea what im gonna do with those tweeters. Anyhow, they mount with 2 5/16 depth so they should fit in the bracket no problem. I only worry about the cone excursion hitting the speaker grill or the speaker frame hitting something and not being able to put the door panel back on. I can do this part of the testing if necessary

These look great! Very glad someone stepped up and finished the long and drawn-out project.

I will definitely buy these as soon as they come available! So just say when!

Thanks again, and good work.

Is it possible to grind away some of the glass ? I have some 6.5" woofers made by Adire that I'm going to try to get in my FD doors. The magnet is deep but not very large diameter. I saw the picture from the previous page
https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...6&d=1286413160
Was there any space between the mounting surface and the vinyl door panel ? Are they the same height as the plastic piece above the frame of the original 6.5" base & R1 speakers ?

Ill answer your question about the glass. NO. It is tempered glass and if you try cutting or griding on it it will shatter.

Yes, there is space. If I'm understanding you correctly, the new speaker brackets sit a little lower than the original height...should give you a tad more room between speaker and door vinyl.

Gringo? Let me know when we can test fit a speaker

Update: We installed 6.5" Infinity Reference Speakers in the door...beautiful fit. Clearance between magnet and glass as well as speaker and door skin.

I'm going to let the creator know they are good in my book and he can do a group buy.

Did you install the standard infinity reference, or the shallow mount?

and this is using the stock speaker grill ? I have Co-Ax and the tweeter pod rests against the stock grill. So I assume you could ring it out closer to the stock grill if your installing a deeper single driver ? How does it seal against the steel inner door ?

Looking good. I just put a set of alpine speakers in the factory boxes and it does not produce any bass at all. Having a lil bigger speaker in the door will help out alot
