Impressive. When will the final version be done and did you take a depth measurement with the window down to see what the clearance is?

Agreed - what is the final clearance? Actually to edit - if you could check clearance with the window down - that would be great! I've got an e-mail to the vendor asking if he can provide a way to space the speaker out even further - i.e. closer to the door panel via another 6.5" ring or two - as there is some free space btw a bose bracket,(or stock), and the door panel. My goal is to allow a deeper speaker to be run.

Howdy! Excuse my lack of knowledge but can you explain the measurement that you would like in more detail please? I'm not certain exactly what you are looking for.

Thanks!

Certainly! That may not be obvious. You'll have to hook up the power window switch and lower the window. Then take a tape measure and measure the distance from the top surface,(outside where the speaker mounts), down to the window. It should be somewhere in the 2-3" range, possibly more depending on how he made the adapter. The distance is measured from the inside of the door going outward towards the window - i.e. depth.
This shows us how deep a speaker we can install - i.e. from the mounting plate to the back of the speaker magnet.

Bob. Thank you for explaining the measurement. I will have it to you guys this weekend.

I'm sending back the trial pair with a mark/notch showing where the extra space is needed to accommodate the window wiring. The adapter will then be sent back to me and should be ready all things considered equal.

I just realized that I still have my passenger door skin off my door to replace it with a new one. I took some pics with the window lowered to give you guys a different perspective on the clearence on the bose unit.

I gave up and bought new Bose speakers. Supposedly they are "in process" but what he told me would be 2-3 weeks has stretched out to 12-13 weeks. I store my car in the winters so I can't be down all summer for this.

The door speakers. The passenger door speaker always crackled bad when I bought it so I swapped the driver speaker over and it was clear. It ended up being the amp in the door. About a month later, my Bose snake subwoofer went out.

At that point I had decided to upgrade the whole audio system. I already have an Alpine head unit and was happy with the sound (when it was working) but once it's out... you know...

Anyway, I found out my snake went out because of a bad connector in my fuse box that went to the rear harness. Once I fixed that, it worked great. So all I really needed was a new bose door amp/speaker. I was still going to put some aftermarket speakers in, but with the massive delay these brackets have been having, I gave up and bought a used Bose door speaker/amp/enclosure for $40.

I'm going to work on sound deadening to improve the sound quality now.

With the MB quarts, does the mounting surface sit flush with the Bose enclosure? Can you get a good air seal without open space around the speaker ring?

Without a good seal, the bose enclosure is basically useless.

Also, the Bose amp on the enclosure sends a 1 ohm signal to the speaker. Are the MB quarts made for 1 ohm? (most a/m speakers are 2 or 4 ohm).

Measurements: If my measurement skills are correct then we have about 4.5" of depth...maybe a little more. I'd prefer to be fairly conservative so I'll say 4".

If for some reason this measurement is incorrect, not my fault, use that value at your own risk. =)

wow that is really deep. I was always told there was only like 2.5 inches of depth there. This was from the face where you speaker would mount to the window? Did you test fit the door panel back on to see if there was interference.

I have my door skins off and didn't think about it. Oops! I should have the next prototype next week and I will do a much more thorough job of measurements and photos.

Out of curiosity, what would you consider these worth shipped to your door (Continental US).

Based on the front page that shows an equally complex design being 21.99 plus 8.99 for shipping 30 dollars is close to fair. Being the small number of cars that could use this. Unless the Japanese start buying them its gonna be a small number so the price may go up to 35-40 based on lack of volume.

Why do I continuously have to debunk all these haters. Ok number one those adapter are not available now. Number 2 these are CNC precision pieces. How would you like your rotors to be cast based on set of rotors that were made of an inferior material that is very sensitive to moisture and tends to expand when subjected to it.

we're not talking about rotors or mechanical parts.

we're talking about door speakers.

Hey guys, this thread is getting mighty close to being a GB or at least a GB Interest thread. It looks more like discussion right now but if it goes any further I will have to shut it down. If there is a real GB Interest please start a proper thread in the 3rd Gen GB Interest Section and also the person providing the product, which looks like Gringo Grande if I am correct, must register as a Private Vendor then we can approve it and move it into the GB section. Just giving you guys a heads up before I have to send PMs.

But I will also be on board with these things if the ball gets rolling.

Thanks
