I have attended DGRR for the last 7 years, and you have spoken to me a couple of times. You probably just didn't see my name tag or my shirt with my forum icon on it. I blend in much better than you would think.

This isn't an issue of if someone can afford the entry fee. Hey got defensive and it went south from there. It's pretty stupid that it has drug out this far. The issue is over and both parties agree that from this point forward you have to pay to come to the event.
I am pretty sure Phil will make it clear that in order to come you have to pay.
Lets all move on and stop hogging bandwidth on this.

ok honestly I'm prob one of the brokest people here LoL with an FD atleast . but 30 dollars for the whole event and a shirt . honestly I just dont see that being a ripoff no matter how you look at it . Setting up events like this takes money time , effort finding sponsors finding all sorts of things locations organizing planning and its not like we dont get months in advanced to save money for the event .
you can always find a place or two to squeeze money. and if you cant .. then I dont think its correct for you to think you deserve not to pay just because you live close , or what ever excuse you may think of.
Look back and think about how easily 30 dollars goes in junk that you dont need and half time even want.
BUT for arguments sake say you cant really afford the 30 dollars.. I mean it happens .. I know i've been tight on money alot since I got my FD lol , but if a friend of mine was low on cash and him not going depends on 30 dollars . I would gladly pay for him.

Which is closed for a reason. Long story short, money is/was not an issue, it was a combination of miscommunications which turned into dick measuring contests. The reason issues like this happen each year is because ppl that don't live on the forums are not aware of the rules to come to this event. I attend the DGRR usually by word of mouth which has stated nothing of registration unless competing in the car show (I'm not worthy).
Lessons to be learned here:
1. First impressions; when approaching someone at this event, Introduce yourself, the event, and the reason why registering is required. Lets be honest, you can't just ask a random person "Are you registered, then I'm going to have to ask you to leave" to respond politely. Absolutley NO ONE would turn down registration to support all the hard work you and all the great volunteers do for this event if that is what it covers.
2. Can't assume everyone knows about this event through the forums.
I'm the driver of the LSB M3, since my rx7 was down, and this is the 2nd time I've attended DGRR and have never registered since this is the first time I've heard about a required registration. Again, I would have no problem paying the registration, I do have a problem paying for something that is not well explained to me. And no don't say look it up, your event, your responsibility to ensure people know the rules.

You are attending an event so you're equally responsible to know something. Take a second to look it up even if you don't live on the forum. Its been planned for a while...for years...
As for the miscommunication and dick measuring...yeah...well don't call **** out on a public forum. Take the mature road and talk it out in private.

You can only do so much to get the word out on this event and plenty of people DID know the rules..new and old attendees. So some didn't...to say that its your responsibility for everyone to know the rules for attending...that's impossible.

I see your point...like you said...seems like a big miscommunication with both parties being rubbed the wrong way. So much that there was a public attack...not the most mature approach IMO and certainly no way to cool things down from an already bad situation. The result is a lot of internet name calling and hurt feelings.
Like Allrotor said...best we move on and stop wasting bandwith.

I dont know what some people expect out of me, but calling someone a biggest ******* because I asked, "If you registered?" And than explaining why. You than tells me, I'll just leave, and than don't. And then me getting you back in the office, to give an option of NOT register and just signing a waiver and giving you a different version of reason in hopes of you understand is wrong, than I don't know what to tell you?? I gave an option and he choose the option of registering? I even confirmed if he was sure if he wanted to register as he now has an option of just signing a waiver. Than all that, after we agreed, he goes and say I'm an *******.. Not just an ******* but biggest ******* of his 32 years on earth?? Seriously?? Come on guys, If I was going to goto an event out of state, never heard of it but only heard from a friend, made $200-$500 investment to go there, I would ask, "Is it free or do we have to pay?". Maybe its just me, but All the events I've attend over the past 20+ years, I asked especially ones where I'll be investing great amount of time and MONEY.
If you didn't know about DGRR, drove 200+ miles, saw people with name tags, and you don't ask people behind the desk or around you if you have to register, than, I hate to say but you can't just blame me for all the issues. You are right, I can't reach everyone. But those who never been on the forum or the net, DID come this year and he came in and asked (white FD with red stripe in the middle). Again, maybe some of you like to take no blame for this, but it goes both ways.
Also, if you didn't know and say me or any of the volunteers approach you and ask, "have you registered?" and you took offense to that, Than, I hate to tell you but you really haven't seen the worst of the world. To me, you could say misunderstanding or something else, but at the end, MOST people are smart enough to figure certain things out. I can't and don't have time to assume everyone is dumb and lack common sense. And also look at my action with your friend, I was the ONLY person who tried to remedy at the end and was called an *******. That itself should be also put in count and next year, hope all of us can just move on and learn from this lesson.
