First off, welcome to the forum! Always glad to have another Rx7 owner in Regina.

Unfortunately, Regina is not a good place to find Rx7 parts. SGI doesn't ever seem to have any and neither do the junk-yards. There is a junk-yard in Stoon that has a few Rx7's (so I hear, but haven't checked for myself yet). Go back a page or two and you should find which yard it is...and let us know what kind of rx7's they have when you call .

Also, post some pics of your car...it isn't a the Red FB always in the Truesdale DQ parking lot is it?

 

Hey, if you wanna find some FB part go out to Bucks auto parts out by Ipsco, last time i was out there, there were 3 FB with full engines n everything in em. should go check it out and happy part hunting

hey guys, just joined the forum because i noticed alot of you are from regina. I just got a 1991 Skyline, and putting it through the SGI inspections, they dinged me for having the JIS healights because there aligned improperly. I was wondering if any of you know of who i need to speak to in order to get my car passed an inspection with the JDM headlights. I cant afford to swap in headlights from other veichles, so you guys would be a great help. Thanks!!!

 

thank-you for the welcome, and thanks for the info on possible parts. I'll post pics after I have the rust issue dealt with. Whoever did the previous body work did an absolutely awful job, so it looks like some cutting and welding for me.

Where did you take it to get safetied? Some places are stickier than others on things like that so it just depends...then there is the politics of imports. Unfortunately, I don't know one place you can go, just stay far away from dealerships.

 

Every place now is doing inspections by the book. When I had my FD safetied, EVERYTHING that needed to be changed was changed. There's a lot of things I can say about you not having enough cash for just the headlights.. but I won't. Just don't be a hazard on the road. Get everything done right.

 

Oh wow, that sucks. When I had my Fairlady safetied, they didn't care too much about anything, but that was a couple years ago.

Well because the J-Spec DP is a few inches longer than the N/A one, I had the muffler shop just put in a test pipe instead of the main cat and holy frick is it loud now. It actually kinda sucks because I don't want to be so loud, but it sounds pretty deadly above 3.5k rpms. anyway...you will now know it's me when your thought process goes like this, "where the hell is that crappy civic...wait a second...what the hell is that...sounds like the coolest chainsaw ever...ahhh...my ears are bleeding...I can't hear anything anymore"

Yeah, I did a website for J-Spec Imports (some of you guys may know Maxx...we go way back) and they gave me a really good deal on a Fairlady so I could sell it and make some money...3 guys from Saskatoon came and bought it with $11,000 CASH with nothing bigger than $100's and mostly $50's and $20's...wow, did I double count that a few time and then I gave it to my dad to take to the bank. It was an auto though which got boring pretty quick, but holy crap was that thing fast.

 

I'm actually from Uplands.. but I date the Rochdale girls :P It's usually because I'm picking someone up from school, or on my way to someone's house.

 

Havn't kept anyone in the loop but the car arrived beginning of july! Body is amazing, and came with some goodies. HKS suspension, front/rear struts bars, SSR GT3(without the rivets) 17x8 fronts, 17x9 rears, HKS intake, after market exhaust with downpipe, ACT clutch/flywheel, and a LSD(unsure of make so far). I have since added a KOYO rad, e-fan. But before I added the rad the old one rotted out, and i didnt realize in time and cooked a coolant seal, but currently rotaryengine.com out of calgary is building up a new one for me. So hopefully I will be able to drive it before snow fall, if not oh well just gives me some more time to put in the the boost controller, and fuel system i need. The two weeks i drove the car were sooo fun though!! Ill get some real pics up soon if i ever quit being lazy and take the camera to work. Look forward to meeting with you guys once the car is rocking or next pring!!

 

did the garage you work at start the inspection form already.... if so you will have to get it done, as those forms get filed with SGI, and if you went else where and they registered it without fixing that and than seen that you have an open form at the other location your car will get flagged...than they will make you bring the car in for a compelte inspection(I am a signing officer for inspections so I know this) If the form was not filed(I hope they never) than just go to a garage that does the inspections tell them you want the SGI done, but just to write it on there paper of what needs done, and if they miss it at that garage than ask them to trasfer it over. But like I said if it is filed you will have to swap it unless you can make a deal with them. Since there have been so many JDM cars coming over(i have one) SGI has thrown in some stiff requirements to meet, and some cars can not make them. Also make sure you get a RAD flush done on the car!! Japan people do not use the proper mixure and it vcorrodes the crap out of rads(have had a GTO, Skyline, 3-RX-7's, Honda civic) all imported over for frineds, and every rad once flushed is SOOOOO full of rust and junk it is scary. Also they are famous for putting in stop leak or gunk to fix small leaks from the corrosion in the rad. So make sure you do that also. Cause you dont want to have to replace the engine because it overheats, because I did that on my FC, and my friend who got a GTSt when bringing it home through the mountains blew out the headgasket due to poor cooling.

 

just to back up what he said about coolant... i had my car a month and all of a sudden boom lost ALL my coolant, came pouring out by the litre, all within 1 minute, while i was driving, i stopped, could see white smoke pouring out from the hood before i even opened it, got it towed home, and found the hose from the back of the rotar housing to the throttle body was so deterriorated it just busted right open. i had ot take the upper intake manifold off to fix it, and when i looked inside the hose, it had a heavy layer of brown caked on crap all inside, this ate my hose. so i changed fluid no problem since. anyways true story about the coolant flush being a good idea.

itrs ones thing to have an opinon, but dont go shooting down other peoples cars, cuz u mighjt get into more then u realize. i dont mean any disrespect but lets just remember we are all here cuz we like rotaries right.. whats the diff if i got my car from overseas... i happen to found exactly what i wanted, which was a stock motor with 120 psi all around, and stock 10psi on both turbos, good platform to start with. so ill ask as nicely as i can.. lets not bash any rx7s here... sound fair? u get ur car where u want, ill get mine where i want, and it doesnt matter what else, as long as im happy and ur happy right?
