Calgary ~ Planning a meet thread

Well. As a few of you know, I helped brett (Aviator920S) move into his new pad in Black Diamond. Upon arrival, I noticed the house was pretty big. A tour confirmed this. Once we got to the back yard however, that was another story. He has a LARGE deck. It also, has a roof. His back yard can be compared to a football feild and his garage parks 6 FB's.

Thats when inspiration struck. Why not have a house warming party/meet at Bretts house, wether he likes it or not? Well, we're not that mean, we'd confirm it of course.

But theres tons of parking on his crab-grass covered backyard lawn. Ample room in his garage for a tech session. His deck could easily accomidate 20 guys standing around, OR sitting. His deck has wrap around seating.

Above all, theres lots of driving around town. Twisties galore for a cruise. Max is also nearby for tech support.

If everyone brought something, they wouldn't have to forward any money, just property.

Its a change from last year, which was the same old thing, with a BBQ. Why not have an accual BBQ. Watch some RX-7 vids or maybe play some games. Then go for an afternoon cruise. Everyone does a part to help.

I think if we made it as painless as possible for brett and his lovely wife, they might just let this happen. I think its a great Idea. It combines all the things we want in a meet, plus the comforts of home.

Anyone else have any thoughts? Of course brett knows theres something coming in this form, because I mentioned it to him on moving day. Unless he sees this, he'll be in the dark until we figure out if its feezable for everyone and put in a legislation. Again, painless as possible for these guys.

Thanks guys.

I'm in, sundays work best for all i figure since Brett usually works saturday night. I can bring food, and a couple of hammock chairs for seating as well.

I was thinking of a date towards the end of next month to give enough notice and hammer out the details with Brett.

Nothing solid yet, just what works best for everyone.

Dayum S., I thought you were kidding when you first suggested this on moving day.

Sounds like an idea but yeah, Sundays would be the only day that works because on Saturdays I'm either working on airplanes, DJing gigs or sometimes both.

And you exaggerate about the size of the garage--- you could fit six 1st gens into it, but only if you shoe-horned them in with a rolling floor jack of some sort. Right now there are three of them in there with ample room for a fourth plus the 16ft x 4ft work bench I intend to build.

As for actually parking on the rear lawn it's not quite that large when you consider the trees, but we could probably accomodate four or maybe five cars there plus another two in the alley in front of the garage door, one in the front driveway and two on the street.

The other two concerns are the absence of both a barbecue and a table for the deck. If someone can score those for the meet the rest of us could all team up on the food and bevs. Beer might have to be carefully rationed since we're deathly paranoid of having a guest driving home blitzed out of his or her skull.

Anywhoo, how does Sunday, June 11th sound? This would give me time to warn the neighbours (and maybe bribe them if necessary) over the expected invasion of a bunch of rotary engines screaming like banshees.

So I have had my rx7 for a year and a half, I went to my first meet this year, the one at Peters Drive In (more of a mini meet I guess), so if this meet is at someones house i am just thinking it may feel a bit awkward seeing as I dont really know anybody. I would still like to go but I would also like to get to know some people before the event, could we maybe plan another mini meet before this event so i dont feel so in the dark. oh and I was the one with the right hand drive titanium S5.

Having a rotary under your hood means you do not have to feel awkward. Ever.

Oh I have a car. In fact, I have a whole street to select from.

In any case, I'll probably be trucking it, with BBQ and Tables in tow. I have Banquet tables we can use. They are like 10FT x 4FT specifically made for BBQ's. Probably use my BBQ too, unless gary wants to give his a good run.

Me and chev were thinking of setting up some GT4 to play. Anyone have the driving force pro wheel? I have one, but chev was too cheap to buy one. Wanted a DVD-Deck for his car instead. I also have a 27" or so TV to bring. I figure 2 TV's and wheels will provide enough video gaming. Probably bring the 360 as well.

Have you even drove your car this year shaun?

As for an FD, I might be picking one up from Japan next year. I think this year is the 911. Next year will be the FD, depending on how the deal on the 911 goes down.

FD's are just too damn expensive on this continent. $30,000 for a 13 year old FD? I paid $30,000 for my brand new miata.

Ooooops, umm fathers day. Why don't we make a firm commitment for the 25th?? Everyone has loads of time to plan, maybe Sean will have wheels, and hopefully Jim will have his J-bridge going and his roomates 20b FD as well, they'd be interesting for sure. As for the secret street thing, ya don't have to race, just pasrk together, bring as FRS radia to communicate (channel 7). The meeting spot fpr spectators is in the bleachers by the concession entrance. Weather looks good for this friday, perhaps we could get a good showing. I'll race if a couple fb's will come and play.

Yup, I 've had her out a couple times. I would've taken her out this past weekend if the weather had cooperated. I was actually talking to an FC owner on 17th Ave last weekend and he was saying he was buying a '94 or '95 out of Vancouver. I'm not sure if he's on the forum or not.

Dayum Gary, what next? "Can't make it that weekend either because it's Bastille day"?

Ok, so let's nail down the 25th of June for absolute certain. That gives everyone ample time to get their ducks in a row--- even the ones who don't even know they have ducks.

And Scott, hope you can make it--- it's always good to see the out-of-towners show up, especially if they're driving a pristine FD.

I'd like it to be at the beginning of August to tell you the truth.
1. my car blew up and I need to rebuild the motor
2. August is a nice month ... not too hot, not too cold

if I can get my car done by june, I'll be in for sure

...But then again, we usually have our final meet/cruise in September. August is therefore a little too early for an end-of-season run and way too late for a season opener.

What the hell Edwin? I thought you were going to come down in July for a visit? When did the stove go pop?

I think I can swing the 25th.

I can swing a table and probably the BBQ. Can bring some buns too.

I think Beer is in order too. I can't do hard (normal) beer so if I bring anything, it would be something like Coors Light. One or two (that means you too Edv) before we eat should be FINE.
