Hello RX7club members! I´m from Czech Republic and I registered to the forum last year. Up to now I´ve read a few tens of threads. I have learned a lot in here (and on other on-line places too, to be fair). This made me more confident to buy the RX. In some particular tech points I would appreciate fresh views, ideas, so I will ask you later.
Last year I bought a non-runing RX-7 SA 1979, Aurora White, Europe version. My aim is get it back on the road in good, close to stock condition. Engine is in rebuild process now. When car is running it will be registered as an oldtimer, probably next year.
I´m slow in repairs, but I do hope I will persist. Also excuse my English, I´m still learning. Please be kind to me.
Thank you all who serves to other members to get their dreams true or at least make their RX experience less painfull, as it sometimes can be. When I post my first 10 I will start a project thread.
Below is a photo of the car on a place, where I saw it first time...and the story begun.
Welcome to the forum!! Thats a beautiful SA you have! I will look forward to seeing a restoration thread on the car!
Thank you for the welcome! Closer look reveals a bunch of imperfections, but the car has its soul. In my opinion the Aurora White is very elegant, underline the "classic" look of SA. Nevertheless when I see Spark Yellow or Mach Green it´s a big WOW.
Congratulations, looks like a very nice find. Must be extra difficult to undertake such a project in an area where these cars must be super rare. It can be accomplished however, just takes a good amount of perseverance, money and effort. This is a good place to seek assistance and motivation. Post more pics of your car when you get a chance.
I 2nd your appreciation for Spark yellow and Mach green. I've been fortunate enough to obtain one of each! I finished the Spark car last year and have yet to begin work on the green one. It got sloppily painted this ugly, speckled green some time in its past and needs to come completely apart. Still gathering parts for it and working on finishing other projects.
Thank you Banzai. You´ve got both of them! Aaah you´re lucky guy, you´ve got more work and more joy I missed a chance with green one in the Netherland, when I started to look for sevens. It was "too far" and I thought I can find something similar closer to me. I didn´t know how hard it can be...
I´m still looking around, where to buy old parts. Here in Europe are probably only few drying sources and not many randomly showing up parts in markets. What I´ve seen in last year it is usually cheaper to buy in the US and give another job to shipping companies..
New Mazda parts are also possible to buy probably nearly anything available in local Mazda dealership, but the prices are again lower abroad even with shipping cost. Aftermarket parts are hard to find in here also.
Two years ago I was thinking of buying MX-5 NA (but I dodn´t like much convertible cars, would be hardtop driver..). In the summer 2024 I visited local more than 400 Miatas gathering and ended with idea that I like old, "classic". I wasn´t amazed by too much owners creativity, but simplicity, respect to manufacturer ideas. (I don´t want to touch anybody, do with your car what you like to do..
I was amazed by RX-7 SA before the MX-5 gathering, but still very afraid of totaly unknown engine. After another half of year (saving, saving..) I realised that buying MX-5 will probably finished with thinking of buying RX again later, because it is the Think I started looking around the internet for more information and parts availability and found here is such a big community of RX enthusiast. So many people do their engine rebuilds! The first panic of the engine slowly changed to "maybe I can". Few months later advertisment of this car showed up. When me and friend of mine came to look at it surprise was that car didn´t run. The owner thought it is probably clogged fuel line, dirty tank and carburetor. Compresion test showed too low pressure in rear chamber to start it. (That absolutely corresponds for what I found inside later at workshop.) It wasn´t easy decision to buy it, but looking for another SA could ended like a neverending story. So I decided to step forward. The aim is clear for me and I hope I would be able put the car back on the road
I´ve already started a build thread, so pics will be there.. Look for "Ethereal"
