If your oil pan keeps giving you grief, look into the banzai stud and brace it. All rx7's leak from the pan. It helps a lot.

What's your technique for painting? Everytime I paint engine parts they look great but chip off if i even look at them wrong.

And I have a sand blast cabinet so I know they're clean...

Oh another question, can you post an after shot of your turbo to the engine? I have the same manifold and it cleared with an on-center turbine housing, but now smacks the LIM with a nice tangential housing. I've been thinking of doing what you did to mine. Could you PM me how much your guy charged you?

And my car is black with blue highlights, but I've wanted to paint it white, and keep the black and blue highlights for years... so: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!

I might need to look into that stud kit sometime. The oil pan is only a problem when I use a oem gasket. All looks well now though. Thanks tasty danish!

My technique is pretty straightforward for painting. I make sure conditions are excellent since I do it all outside then dry in garage. I prep the manifolds or whatever is being painted. Usually the intake manifolds I don't even sand. Just a real good cleaning. I'll do around 2-3 light coats of paint and a little thicker spray to finish. Not too thick. Dry. Coat of 500* clear. Let it dry for only like 5 minutes then spray one more coat on. After its done it looks very nice and glossy. I usually never get runs. It does chip. Can't stop that. I'm just very careful and touchup if needed. Spray color in cap and the apply with a qtip where needed. Then use a qtip with the clear where needed. I've done that a couple times and you wouldn't know it was touched up unless staring at the touchup spot like a hawk.

Thank you! Appreciate it! Take your time. A lot of prepping and cleaning. Very tedious.

Yeah. I'll pm you shortly and update with pics in a minute. Thats another thing I was considering. Just getting a centered exhaust housing cause I know it would clear. I'm also using the off center exhaust housing. Pics to come.

Hahahaha. Don't do it! I've had enough issues as is! lol. Go for it. Just do it a little differently lol

Just got back from a little cruise. I'm at 400 miles on the engine now.

Finally some pics! Still need to upload videos. Takes FOREVER though for videos.

For you tasty danish: With turbo blanket I have near 3" from LIM. About 1" or so from strut tower I believe. I can get exact meausrements if needed. I'm still going to get new downpipe made.

And a general engine shot of what it looks like done. I'm going to change out the factory coolant overflow tank to a polished overflow tank eventually. The stock one looks dull in there lol.

My redlinegoods.com shifter boot installed. You can see my TurboII tranny makes the shifter sit back around 1 1/2- 2". Might get the ebrake boot now. Very nice quality.

Manifold was originally a Megan turbo manifold. I think for a FD. I forget. It's full stainless steel and how I have it modified now is perfect.

Tomorrow morning I'm getting a new downpipe made. Getting rid of the last part of my exhaust that was pie sliced. All mandrel bend. Also at 450 miles. Dyno day is coming up soon!

Still want to get a new throttle cable or have one made. Having issues with mine and it looks worn. Anybody ever use a return spring on a FC throttle body? My throttle body has 0 leaks and is really smooth. The thottle sticks a little when shifting.

Yes highnitro. It is a divided t4 flange. I don't think I have any pics of it.

Engine is at 500 miles and ready for the dyno.. Just need to find out a dyno day. Looks like next week now. We will find out soon.

New downpipe is done. Not sure if I should paint with high temp, wrap it, or get ceramic coating..

Also, went and got my written quote for paint today. Cars getting new paint next month. Determined to win sevenstock .

Dude. Did you ever get your tune dialed in any better? I know that you mentioned that you had an idling issue.

Car idles fine now. I'm just having a small issue with the throttle sticking just a bit when letting off the throttle. Changing out the throttle cable. Car isn't tuned right now. Just was tuned a little bit to get it broken in. The real tuning is happening on the dyno.

Don't worry. Everything will be looked over again and again before I have Ben tune it on the dyno.

Since the car isn't tuned i'm gathering the things I need for new paint coming up in a few weeks. Went to the mazda dealer yesterday and ordered brand new front fenders. Left and right. Those will be here thursday.

Also fixed the throttle cable. Took it out and lubed the cable. Reinstalled and tightened it up so there's no slack in it at all. No sticking now.

Just waiting for dyno day right now...whenever that comes.. Sucks being passed by 90's minivans on the streets because I can't get on it

Thank you! Don't be jealous though. With hard work and determination you can have what you want. Yes, i've been going at this car for 6 years coming up now.. It's been awhile lol.

Lol the ones passing me aren't.. lol

Looks like im good for the dyno this friday evening... We'll see friday.

So, how much power does everyone think i'll make?

Mod list for engine bay again:

Engine: Stockport GSLSE irons with S5 TII housings (light streetport)
Goopy 2mm apex seals
S4 NA rotors (9.4 compression)
Modified divided turbo manifold
Haltech Sprint RE
T04E 57 trim turbo. P trim turbine wheel with .70 ar exhaust housing
Full 3" exhaust, one presilencer, univesal rb muffler
50mm wastegate/12 psi spring
ID725/ID1000 injectors
Walbro 255 pump
FC coils
FMIC

I think thats most of it...

I personally will be extremely happy with anything between 300-350rwhp. 325rwhp pops in my head. I'm leaning more towards wanting to have my number closer to 300rwhp instead of 350rwhp like I wanted before just so I don't break as much crap and have a good reliable build.

283rwhp @ 8psi

Ben got the car ready and started doing pulls on the dyno and got this number^. Im very very happy . I wanted near 325, but at 12psi. I might just leave it where its at. All the power is usable. Traction with that power in this car is ridiculous fast.

I was on track to meet my goal. Just short of the psi...

Ben and I got the scare of a lifetime during one pull. Ignition fuse blew mid pull..

All is well now. Car is a blast. Pics and vids with sheet soon.

Big thank you to Ben(karack)!!!!

i'd guess it should do about 340ish at 12psi. could have made a little more but being my first haltech tune with a turbo car i wasn't shooting for the moon.

That sounds like a great number. I'll probably just leave it or get a boost controller to just get to 325rwhp. Car is solid though and still pulling very strong. Thanks again Ben!

Thanks Sam!! I agree. For only being 8 psi this car hauls!!! Your already making good enough power! haha I'm sure your spool is crazy too. I'll go check your vid now haha.

Thank you very much! It's definitely a lot of work... I'm very pleased though with the outcome. I just have to be careful not to break things now lol. I'm at a great power level I think cause I'm not pushing the very limits of my transmission, rear end, or engine..

I'm thinking I might reroute the wastegate screamer pipe back into the exhaust to quiet it down during full boost. Anyone know if this will be a problem with the backpressure going to the wastegate creating more boost?

I picked up my brand new fenders from mazda a couple days ago. Car goes to paint shop next paycheck. Then new wheels/brakes....
