David, I am genuinely sorry for what happened to you at Speedcraft. There is no doubt that Todd screwed you, along with many other people including myself. I hate now that MY name was ever associated with that place... I didn't learn the true depth of how bad it was until after you were gone. I should have left the day he went to jail instead of staying to do pro bono work trying to right an overwhelming number of wrongs. He was no "partner", in fact I lost some tools and other items to his equally crooked family when the whole thing finally imploded. I did, however, get every customer's car out of there and back safe with the owners, and manage to keep them from being further stolen from. I certainly didn't do a good enough job in your case, and as stated above, I am very sorry for that. I hope that at some point in the future I can somehow make it up to you.

I would very much like to have you visit MY shop some time so that you can personally witness things getting done RIGHT.
Tracy, apology accepted. When I saw your name on the thread, I was pretty pissed, hence my post however true about SpeedCraft. I'm sure the "car gods" have caught up to Todd in jail, a place not kind to sex offenders.

Anyway, I'll swing by when I get the car back.

This Todd you speak of.... did he happen to work at Pettit Racing years ago when it was still located in Ft. Lauderdale??

I don't think so. It's Todd Mathewson or something like that. He was in Dallas TX prior to coming to FL. My understanding is he goes back to TX after serving his FL sentence to serve the remainder of his TX sentence that he was on parole for. Confusing?

Maybe I can help clear this up a bit.

Speedfab and Speedcraft are two completely different shops.

Years ago there was a shop called Speedcraft run by a guy named Todd. Todd was a very dishonest person who unfortunately screwed a lot of people over including his then partner Dwight (now owner of Stage 6 Motorsports).

David took his car to Todd at Speedcraft. Todd sold David those parts/service and worked on his car. Todd also had an FD RX7 which he put a 3 rotor in. From the parts listed it sounds as if he unloaded a lot of his old parts on David.

At the end of the speedcraft days, Tracy showed up to give a hand as Dwight was no longer partners with Todd. By the time Tracy started to realize he was falling into a mess of mistreated/taken advantage of customers (like David) and employees, Todd had gone to jail. Tracy tried to help out customers who had been screwed by Todd or still had parts or cars in the shop. Todd's parents owned the building and property that speedcraft was run on. I believe they somehow acquired ownership of the business, as they tried to take and sell off parts in the shop that belonged to customers, Tracy, and employees

Tracy took a loss on some of his tools, engine parts, and other stuff that were in the shop and moved on. A month or so later Tracy leased a garage also in Orange park, bought a couple car lifts and new tools. He opened his own shop called Speedfab. (renamed from his old VW / Porsche business called TGfab).

Tracy at Speedfab has been working on my RX7’s and doing my fab work for over 5 years. I always been super happy with the quality of work and service I’ve received from him, his shop, and his employees and recommend all car enthusiasts I know and meet to go there. I know if I send them to Speedfab they will be happy when they pickup their car.

Anyway, back on topic. The bad about SpeedCRAFT is that Todd and his parents took advantage of a lot of people such as David. The good is I met Tracy and Dwight, Leland, and Justin who are all honest people who now either run their own shops or work for others and all take care of their customers.

David, you may not remember, but I met you at speedcraft back in the Todd days. It looks to me like Tracy was just trying to be funny and didn’t know there were some hard feelings towards him. Maybe after you get your car back you can take him up on his offer to visit his shop. If it works out, I’d love to meet up with you guys and check out your 3 rotor.

Wow, I didn't know you had tens of thousands of dollars invested before this latest financial nightmare. You must have well over $100K invested in that car, not counting your time.

I'd guess this is right. I organized all my receipts yesterday but couldn't bear to add them up.

On the fun side, I did find my original bill of sale ($34,390.50), inspection check list, and window sticker:

<SNIP>
Maybe we start a pool on the total cost, from start (including the cost of the car) to the end, including all transportation costs (David flying all across America, tow trucks, etc.).

The closest one without going over wins.

I'm guessing $156K.

Pedophilia in the Rx7 community? So, he was dating his clients? Jeeesh. Nightmares of Big Bubba.

Keep it going.

Yep, a name from the past. As I remember it, the only part about Tracy's involvement that is different than what he posted is I recall him working at the shop for a few years before it went under.

Dating his clients? He (Todd not Tracy) would always have 16ish year olds hanging out at the shop and he was in his mid thirties. I warned him about this a bunch of times but to each his own.

As for the car, electrical/injectors issues shut the dyno run down. Gotham is busy (please let this be true George) checking all the wiring on the car, including the body harness to ensure proper future operability. I did get to drive the car over 800 miles, something I haven't done in quite some time.

How were you able to drive it that far with injector issues? All this drama would cause a man to go and pay $80,000 for a hooker... oh wait, that's been done already.

Too funny. From my little understanding of what George was telling me, the secondary injectors were failing under boost over 3,000 RPMs. They had me limited to 0 lbs. of boost and I couldn't go above 4,500 RPMS so the car never failed during the break-in period.

Nope, sorry. I posted earlier I couldn't go. I got tickets for the first time this year to the Master's Golf Tournament in Augusta GA and it's Thursday - Sunday of the same weekend. For you golf guys, you'll know this is "it" when it comes to golf so DGRR will have to wait another year.

Wish I could do both. Even thought about driving over one day but it's 5 1/2 hours each way.

Wow, I was trying to better understand how Pedophilia was involved in this engine build, so I read 86 pages of posts. My eyes are burning and my ears are ringing and I don't think I'll be buying a Wolf ECU.

I'm headed to bed. I read this thing like a suspense novel... still waiting for the good news!

Yes, probably better suited for the Lounge than here. Nothing to do with this build so back on topic.

OMG... this guy drives the ultimate 3-rotor FD AND has Masters Tickets (heavy emphasis on the "s" in ticket(S). I'd pay your gas bill for the entire weekend PLUS cover your food bill if you'd be willing to sell me one of those ticket"s"

Seriously though, congrats. It's my dream as well. Someday (hopefully) it will happen. Until then, I'll just have to pretend to be YOU (both on the road and at Augusta).

Well, I'm not on the road with the car just yet. Spoke with George yesterday and they're making good progress on sorting out the wiring issues. One of the problems I had dealt with the headlights wigging out, acting as though they were set off by the alarm system. George believes he's found the root cause, corroded pins on the relay. Haven't heard back from him if he's tracked down the injector issue and I doubt the corroded relay caused the injector issue also. Maybe George will add an update for us to the thread.

As for the Masters Golf Tournament, tickets are going on stubhub.com for about $4,000 per ticket. That's insane, isn't it? I have a high school buddy who invited me to go about ten yeas ago and I turned him down. Told him if the opportunity came up again I wouldn't be so stupid the next time so when now (the next time) rolled around, I jumped on it. He has a friend who has a set of 4 tickets in the family (they've had the tickets for over 40 years and they get willed to next generation family members). They're not able to go this year so they've sold them to us. Cost? $250 per ticket. Almost tempted to sell them, pocket the $3,750 per ticket, and watch it on TV, but I have to be there in person for once. Taking another buddy and my father-in-law (read several posts up, the one that fish tailed the car in the snow last week). The ultimate guys golf weekend.

I'm just as excited to be close to getting the car back. Driving the car last week reminded me why we sink so much money into these "black holes". The FD is one damn fine car, way ahead of its time for a mid-1990s car. Do a little updating like dropping in a 3 rotor and I'll be smiling once I get it back. Someone asked me about my plans when it is completed - drive baby drive!
