Sorry to you for all your bad luck. Mega patience bud. I would be in a coffin now, having blown a vessel in the brain from high blood pressure.

I have a Dodge diesel pick-up and a 24 foot enclosed trailer. I was considering offerring to transport your car to you for free (just cover my fuel), but with your luck there'd likely be a Dodge, a trailer & an FD involved in some kind of freak accident.

Think I'll not chance my luck. But, if for some reason you really need / prefer to not drive it back, I'd be willing to discuss the previous possibility. There'd have to be a lucky rabbit's foot involved somewhere though.

Thanks for the comments guys. We were waiting on a few parts for the tranny but Ray from Malloy is the man and they're now here as of a week ago. The tranny is back together and has been reinstalled into the car. Were waiting on the ecutout to come back - didn't post this up because didn't think it would be a timing issue but it just showed also. The previous one blew its gasket and it took DMH weeks to send it back. It finally showed up and is back on the car. The turbo is reconnected and the RX8 starter is installed. Had a few AC things going on but everything is put back together here also - system needs to be charged but this will be done as soon as the car is restarted.

Spoke with Steve Kan last night and they've asked me to order another instrument gauge cluster cowl. Not the gauges themselves but the black plastic cover. Its tabs are broken. I guess after 14 years this stuff happens. I'm calling Ray now to overnight the part (if he has it) and we should be good to go. The car will need tuning again as the old turbo wasn't working properly so the maps should be off. I think Steve is going to tune it as George no longer works at Gotham. I'm going to try to get ahold of him as he was the guy that did all of the tuning to this point. We'll see.

Am I close to getting the car back? Don't want to jinx myself but it looks like it.

Looks like you're almost there. This is pretty common with RX7's so I wouldn't sweat it.

Spoke with Steve Kan yesterday and all major parts are reinstalled on the car and they fired it back up with no glitches. They're taking the car today to have the AC recharged as we blew a line last time I was there. The line, installed by Pettit, didn't have proper AC fittings.

Ordered new Hawk HPS brake pads for the front big brake kit as the current pads squeal like a mother. Also ordered heat wrap for the mid pipe - I want them to take away as much heat as possible from under the passenger's side. Will eventually tackle this myself and install a heat shield but the wrap should work for now.

The instrument cowl will be in by next Tuesday so we'll see if they can wrap everything up then. Looks like another trip to TX is in my immediate future.

I'm sorry to hear that. It comes all as one peice with the surround and is very expensive (for a peice of plastic).
Ray stocks them though, I had to buy one a few weeks ago.

$250 bucks worth of plastic. Think it will give my FD that new car smell?

Everything is on track for a next week completion. Heat wrap showing up on Monday, brake pads and instrument cowl on Tuesday, completion right around the corner?

David, Just FYI if you are ordering this cowl for a 94+ interior you will find that the texture of the new piece will not match that of the pieces already in your car. The new OEM panels have a finer grit and a slightly lighter sheen.

Yes, I did order the 94 part but I'll have to take what I can get.

I hear ya.

I may be willing to trade you cowls in the future if you are interested so that we both end up with matching interiors. Best of luck.

Hi guys,

I'm obviously looking for closure too. I have hesitated to post anything here for the past several months as something always seems to come up. Trust me, it's not for a lack of wanting a finished car.

This time, closure will occur over the next few weeks and I'll be able to get back to the simple things in life, like installing the numerous small FD items I've collected while waiting on the return of the car.

Here's to a good week!

As I've said before, I was almost in the same position as you were David, but I dropped the project before anything else could go wrong. I got the feeling that the shop saw me as a cash cow, so I took off.

Update: A lot of interesting things going on that we'll save for later. For now, the car is completely back together and operational. I'm flying back in to Dallas on Tuesday to test the car out and then I'm meeting with George (formally of Gotham) on Wednesday to have the final tuning done on the car. My father-in-law is going with me as we're driving the car back to FL. The plan is to leave Dallas on Thursday and get back to Jacksonville Friday evening. That's the plan at least and we'll see how it goes.
