Thanks all. Trying to be as clean and methodical as possible.

Mock-up of the 6" x 14" heat shield in place. Just need to fabricate a mounting bar. That factory coolant hose will also get a Fire Flex sleeve.

Josh, excellent choice on the downpipe wrap, I used the exact same stuff on mine. You would have noticed it has a silica based insulation material bonded to the aluminum, this is the key. I was able to find a similar material in bulk and used it between the turbos and the OEM heat shields as well as between the LIM and a custom LIM shield. This stuff actually works... after coming off track I can completely comfortably stick my hand down by the Y-pipe without searing my arm hairs off haha

Build is coming along great by the way! I hope to see you on track with us soon

Lol... There are little things that I see. A few nicks in a black AN fitting here and there. I will be addressing some very minor things at the end of the season. I'm sure I will have a handfull of small projects. Not really trying to build a "show car", but I can't help my OCD with some things.

Hey buddy! Yeah, I remember you showing me your manifold shield with that material. Very cool stuff. I contemplated doing something similar, but with the 4" downpipe, and the wrap added, there is no room left...lol. That downpipe is a tight fit all around.

Look forward to seeing you too!

And, better looking.

Gordon
Gordon, thanks! I can send you my specs on the tank if needed. I also utilized a nice optical GEM sensor for fluid level. When the tank gets to 1/3 low, my LED lights. An internal baffle also helps keep things realistic in the turns. On mounting it, I actually used the OEM ABS bracket. I chopped it down and welded it to the tank. It all unbolts as one piece, and sits very firm.

350-400whp should be achieved at low boost (14psi). I will be running 25psi the rest of the time. Not sure what it will make, but I suspect close to 500whp. Keeping things "tame" on the streets will definitely prolong the life of my engine and components. I was going to run an 8psi spring originally, which would allow full throttle runs without the enrichment of the meth. If the tank were to empty on a trip, I could still drive as normal with no worries. I also planned to use the Gem sensor as a digital input into the Adaptronic ECU, which would trigger the MAC solenoid to run wastegate pressure. Ultimately, I decided on the 14psi springs. I felt that using the digital input may be asking too much consistancy from the sensor and the physical tank. Even with an internal baffle, if the sensor triggered, I would get some big hesitations due to boost cut. Of course, in a turn, that could get tricky.

I also chose to run no BOV this time around. After some research, I said "what the hell". If my turbo dies prematurely, it just gives me an excuse to pick up Elliot's new Billet wheel TDX-61R

everyone i found something wrong!!!! haha jk not hating here:

but i do see that now you're going to bake that firewall rubber coolant line from both sides now. im guessing you'll have that one taken care of.

that downpipe wrap piece looks awesome. i am wondering how this will compare to the DEI titanium wrap stuff.

also, that ABS area heat shield looks great too. i may need to make one like yours. the factory one may work fine, but i like how you extended it a bit to reach all the way to the frame rail...

looking good!

I posted up a thread on the Adaptronic Forum on troubleshooting the Aux 4. Not a big deal. Worst case scenario is something is fried in the ECU.
I figured out my Aux 4 output issue. Essentially, I was using an old pinout and Adaptronic recently swapped two of the Aux pins in a hardware revision. A quick reply from Andy, and I'm back in business. Just need to swap the pin to the proper position on my harness, and I'm good to go.

I have nothing but great things to say about Adaptronic's customer support. From a PLX integration based on recommendations, to consistent troubleshooting from their lead engineer. I look forward to seeing this thing in action!

**Sirens go off in the garage**

LOL... Yeah, the OEM hose is the odd child. I do plan to put a FireFlex sleeve on it. I was looking at the angle and I may be able to use a piece of the same hose I used for the lower output re-reroute. It's HPS Double-Ply silicone hose. Great quality stuff. The angle is really tight though, as the OEM is pre-formed. It is a new OEM hose, so we'll see what I can come up with.

On the downpipe material, I am excited to see how it performs! If you go that route, be mindful of their part numbers. I originally ordered this one. Note at the bottom it's the 300002 part number, which is just the wrap:
http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/pr...ield-kit/63/33

But found that it was only 10" wide. Per their instructions, you want a 3/4" to 1" gap in the material as it wraps around. With a 4" downpipe, it wasn't going to quite make it, so I re-ordered this one which is 12" wide:
http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/pr...eld-kit/103/33

I decided to use the 10" wide piece on the manifold itself. I will be able to cut it to fit most parts of the manifold. I also ordered some spare ties, which are recommended.

All their sizes provided...

sweet. i decided to not wrap the manifold runners and just let them dissipate the heat, as i'm always concerned with overheating/cracking with custom stainless welded manifolds. i can just protect everything else near it. i think i am going to stick with the DEI titanium wrap for the downpipe.

also, i plan on making a nice stainless cooking pot turbine heat shield this weekend, so i'll see how that goes.

i think the main thing is just keeping the manifold/turbo heat reflected (if nothing else) away from the LIM, as it's so close to the inferno that's going on down there, and it can cause hidden trouble (high IATs that wouldnt show up on the EMS because it's heating up after the sensor).

so are you gonna bring this bad boy down to road atlanta with us in october?

imho, wrapping doesn't exacerbate manifold cracking. i think cracking has a lot to do with the heat/cooling cycles and not necessarily just extreme heat retained in the mani. in which case, wrapping the runners wouldn't hurt, and if anything would help prevent cracking due to a more gradual cool down.

I hear that. I really was debating on wrapping sections of the manifold too. It is ceramic coated inside and out. It's pretty tight in there as well. With my dual EGT sensors, and dual wastegates, it's all pretty compact. I will play with it and see what's up.

Ugh, dude, I want to. I get pinged quite a bit to track this thing, but I just don't think I will. With the time and money invested, I really just want to enjoy it as a street car. When this thing gets close to satisfaction, I do plan track an FB. FCinWV (long time friend) just gave me one too...lol. Nonetheless, the FD will be road tripped, enjoyed, and meet going!!

yeah you guys have a good point. i have a good friend (BryanDowns on here) who has a very very nice FD that he doesn't want to track, just do some road trips, a few autocrosses, meets, etc. and not go crash it or chip it up with rocks at an HPDE track day.
makes sense. i basically got mine for track/weekend use, and it's definitely not nearly as nice as some others (yours, bryandowns', etc.)

time attack may be a good idea though. one car at a time, and not a bunch of 911s and GTRs out there throwing rocks and rubber at you on the track...

I'm pretty excited about a recent part I purchased in the GB Section. Awaiting delivery, which should be pretty soon. I will fit it and then take it to be painted MB by the same shop that painted my car. It should fit up against the vmount perfectly.

The long section is being cut off, as indicated....

Heat Management

I finished up the shielding and sleeving. I feel that it turned out pretty good. The downpipe cover took some massaging but I got it fitted. I sleeved the HPS silicone coolant line, as well as the OEM hose coming from the heater core.

Thanks guys!

So the Vmount should be here Friday! Get it installed, and sort out the filter with WI nozzle mounting and I'm in business! Midpipe still needs some adjustment, but that should be done this week.

Nonetheless, once the vmount gets here, I can actually start the car and do a walk-through for leaks and such.

You and me both bro!

We'll see how it all goes. I'm slotting in some time for possible troubleshooting as well. Considering the amount of work I've done, I'm sure there will be a few things.
