Exclamation

Guys don't worry, Josh will eventually accept he will keep the rotary. Right now he is in the bargaining stage. We all have those blasphemous thoughts creep into our minds every once in a while.....

i wasn't waiting to take a stab at your setup, as it looks solid and very well done. stabbing was not my intent. it is very impressive and i'd actually love to have it! my post was a little sarcastic though, because honestly, when people say "well, the rotary blew, so i'm considering going LS1" it's usually because of a desire for reliability, simplicity, and power. a slightly "lower risk" version of your setup would have all three of those things, and make more power than a lot of LS1s --and definitely be way cooler.

if it were me, i'd run 13-14 psi on 93 octane, sell the AI setup, and tune for low 11's AFRs. 400whp and relatively simple; no boring LS1 setup (the rotary FDs are becoming more rare than the v8 swapped ones!) and turn the boost down a little for track days.
also, you have a rotor tattoo'd on your arm, right? only go to GM for their EMS sensors and their ignition coils
Understood. Didn't mean to get too defensive. You are very knowledgeable, and I have appreciated your input throughout my thread. Cheers.

I hear ya. I had a feeling I knew where your post was coming from. Honestly, I agree. Less boost would yield a lot more reliability. My problem is that I have become a power junky. After driving and enjoying a 500whp FD, it would be tough to go backwards. I don't want the power for street racing, or track use. I'm not looking to flash my dyno chart around at meets. I literally want it to put a smile on my face in the comfort of my own backroad.

I am not looking at an LS1. I am looking at an LS3 stroker. 550-600whp with a very streetable temperament, naturally aspirated, and cold A/C.

The only way I could obtain that power with a rotary and get remotely the same miles from an engine is with a 20B. We both know that project would be $30k+ done to my standards.

I can do the stroker for around $15k.

E85 + aftermarket apex seals + good tune/setup = Can't blow it up even if you try.

500% agree. If no E85 then pump+race fuel mixed and some AI.

word.
20b turbo project is stupid money, but hey, an LS3 stroker project can't be too cheap either... i say rebuild with some quality parts, re-tune, and prosper!

If you don't want E85, aux injection with pump does work. I did different combinations of water/alcohol for 30k miles on a single engine @ 23 to 29 psi( with 91 octane)... The car broke every drive-train component 3 times, before the chassis ended up twisted enough to throw away.

it does work well for many people.

i just prefer to "keep it simple," as they say.

lol, that's completely circular statement since you listed everything required not to blow an engine. let me give you an analogy of what you did:

steroids + 2 hrs weights/cardio daily + good nutrition = can't be out of shape even if you try.

I recall one of those failed recently.
Taking Josh for a Ride tomorrow to see what he thinks.
Just a boring bone stock motor. Doubt he will be impressed but...

It did put down 430/440 at wheels on 91 Octane. So who knows.

Dyno is subjective there buddy.

This is what you originally said: "wow, which stock engine put down 430/440? "

They're rated and SAE certified at 430. So it would stand to reason that the LS3 did.

I'm not the guy who's gonna put up a whole crap ton of chevy links in Josh's build thread to prove you wrong, so just take the L and move on.

Josh, take your time man. No need to rush/push the envelope anymore. That's sorta what got you here in the first place. Hope the move goes well.

Take care

When you put them in a 7 they do. You're forced to do long tubes, full exhaust and intake at a minimum. The LS responds well to that. You can get 480-500whp out of a simple LS1 will only bolt ons with pump ALL DAY.

SAE is BHP, right, which is at the crank, and not at the wheels? "take the L and move on" ? come on. please try not to get upset.

Funny. A cam is considered a bolt on. It takes like an hour. Don't get butthurt.

i am not butthurt.

i was not aware that "stock engine" meant intake, headers, exhaust, cam, and tuning.

i was really not trying to upset anyone here.

carry on!

Well on the upside, here in Cali, The LS series is such a common swap with the state ref that you can actually legalize it. Since it is a newer engine and has lower emissions its favored already by CARB. You just need all factory emissions for the engine installed with it (all smog related components). I do NOT know everything about it but guys here are passing the state ref and the cars are legit conversions.

Then they modify the living shiznit out of it .... lol
