We have been super busy, but I finally forced myself to build a 4" downpipe, results were good. Picked up 68 rwhp and 37 tq. and the boost comes on a lot quicker.
Still having a problem with the boost not maintaining to redline. It reaches 20psi then bleeds down to 16-17psi @ 8k rpm, I guess I will try a larger FMIC next.
She just laid down 683 rwhp/506 tq @ 20psi max. If I can figure out the boost drop it should be well into the 700's and the torque will be flat.
Comparison 3" to 4" downpipe same 20psi max with bleed down to 16-17psi

Amazing, but I'm just curious. Why is it taking until 5,000 RPM on a 20b to see full boost? I know it's a massive turbo but I guess I thought the 20b flowed significantly more than the 13b so boost would come on earlier? How would it compare to a 13b running the same turbo and setup in terms of spool times? Would the 13b not see full boost until like 6000 RPMs?
I'm probably reading the graph wrong but I'm just trying to learn.

Another positive side effect was that the EGT's dropped considerably. I was happy to see the HP gain, not happy to see the initial problem still exists. No reason to turn the boost any further until I get the bleed off sorted.
If you look at the chart there is positive pressure already at 3K rpm. This is a 4th gear pull starting at 2K rpm, lower gears the boost comes on quicker.
According to this dynojet run file pic for a gt42 on a 13b, it looks like 6200 for 20psi on a 13B. It hit 29psi at 7k and it is making 10psi at 5500

Decided to finally upgrade from the 6 stock FD trailing ignition coils. Made some custom brackets and will be making custom plug wires. Used the AEM HO "dumb" coils since I already had the X6 igniter and the 6 channel HKS Twin Power. Looking forward to testing the setup, the 30-2852 Coils actually have higher output than the Smart coils. . Ignition Coils 93+ RX-7

Damn dude, this FD rocks the house. I'm seriously impressed. I'm sure you've mentioned it here..... what trans and diff are standing up to this level of power/torque?
thanks

It is really great to see the you keep finding new was to improve and refine your car. Most people would have stopped years ago and been happy with a great car but great is not going to cut it with you. Your drive to always better your craft is impressive and maybe border line crazy. Looking forward to seeing that dyno sheet.

OK. I have been running at this power level for over a year, this is my low boost setting, so it is never below this power. I actually have higher boost runs of over 750rwhp, but that is just the peak with a huge drop off. Need to sort out the 20psi setting then move on to working on high boost. Just lucky I suppose.

I did a quick pull on the dyno, car made the same power as it did with 6 used OEM trailing coils. It seems to start a little easier but that might just be wishful thinking or the 8.5mm MSD low resistance plug wires that I made to replace the 10mm Magnecor wires. I was really hoping to see some sort of gain, but at least it tells me that the HKS Twin Power was doing a great job firing those old coils.
Next will be the new FMIC.
