Turbo longevity

I was curious how long your stock turbos have gone, and whether they were new or reman?

I am curious because the car i thought about buying months ago is sold now but the owner mentioned he went through 5 turbos in 94,000ish miles. The '94's original engine was replaced around the 94,000 mark. The car looked beuatiful and was never painted.

But that turbo thing amazed me, i didn't think they were that bad. I mean Five Turbo's?...the car was cared for.

So how many sets have you all been through and what mileage did you get out of them?

Mines on the original set at ~53500 miles, and I've been given an estimate of another 20k miles of life left in them.

It wouldn't amaze me if the guy was running high boost without the mods to do it reliably!

My original secondary turbo was bad when I bought the car, at 99K miles. Replaced shortly thereafter and going strong.

116K miles and going strong. Been running 13+ psi for the last 40K miles. Waiting/wishing them to go so I can replace them with the '02 Spirit R turbos I have sitting on the shelf!!!

73k on mine, but have only boosted 13 psi for the last few months.

I would guess the previous owner had 5 turbo replacements because Mazda dealers routinely did that when the car wouldn't boost correctly. I suppose it could also be because he's been boosting 15+ psi and not changing his oil frequently or something like that, but I doubt it.

Well, this car was compeltely stock.

I forgot about the fact that Mazda just replaced turbos rather than find the real problem.

So it seems like it was a Mazda problem, not the Turbo itself.

I'm at about 54k miles on original turbos and it's still boosting pretty strong.
