smoke like hell !!!! HELP
my car is somking like hell for a least 10 minute. Whenever i park the car for a couple of hours its a 93 rx7. The smoke is white and it look like a fire just happen. So if someone have this happen to them please help me out. I went to get it check up and the guy at the dealer saids it the turbo. So I just want to get a second on it so please help if u can thanks
It is most likely your coolant seals. Last year i got rid of a 93 Montego Blue that was doing the same thing. White smoke almost always = burnt coolant due to a failing water seal in the motor. The cure? replace the motor. Pretty sweet huh?

Smoke can mean a ton of different things. My theory is to ignore it untill something is actually noticably wrong with the performance of your car. Just make sure your oil is at level. Cold definitely can cause white smoke. mine smokes all winter and is fine all summer. its just the way it is. blue smoke is bad.
I see the same thing with my 93. It's starting to get really cold here, and when i park my car outside overnight and start it up in the morning, i get a lot of smoke. No coolant smell, just smells like its running really rich. But it stops after the car warms up. But when i start it cool in the afternoon after school, no smoke at all. Performance doesn't seem to be affected at all when warmed up. But i think my neighbors don't like the fact that a big cloud of smoke flows down my street in the morining.

cooler weather creates condensation in your muffler after a previous shut-down. Fast temp changes cause it. (Think of a cold coke can pulled out of the fridge and left on the counter.) Engine heat on start up boils the condensation and causes steam until the moisture is all evaporated. Steam clouds evaporate quickly once in the cooler air outside the car. Steam clouds that smell like coolant = not just condensation = bad news. Smoke dissipates slowly. The ECU senses ambient temperature and richens the a/f ratio and kicks up the idle, like a choke(for those who remember what one is).

happened to me
I came out to my car after being parked for about 20mins
and a huge puff of white smoke came out of somewhere I
couldnt even see it was sooooooo bad.
then coming to a stop sign the same thing happened I
was sooooo embarrased, cuz looks soooo fine minus the
white smoke. me and my mechanic checked everything.
Then It just went away. Just like widebody said..... DONT

I use my 93 for my daily comute and it produces lots of white steam whenever it is cold in the AM (even w/ fresh rebuild). If the smoke/steam is white, raises & disipates quickly, it's OK, just condensation. If the smoke hugs the ground, is white to blue/gray and smells of coolant and/or oil then your water and/or oil seals are going bad. - water seals usually go in a big way (not graduall) good one day then next day, poof HUGE CLOUDS of coolant smoke and the engine is off to the shop for rebuilding
I got a 93 fd and mine smokes like hell during cold startups. Once the car is warmed up, the smoking stops. Seems like all of us have the same situation so looks like nothing is wrong, unless it smells like coolant. I havent lost any coolant the past five months so i think its normal for our fd's to do this. However, sometimes when i start my car, i get a puff of blue smoke for the first couple of seconds and then the white smoke starts coming like a minute later. Anyone have an idea about the blue smoke. I heard its normal for our cars?

Yeah the blue smoke is normal, so as long as it is a small puff that would last, perhaps, a few seconds. The stock ECU injects a good amount of oil into the combustion chamber at start up.

I'm getting white smoke and haven't had it traced yet. I was told it could be the turbos or transmission. It does not happen often nor last long and its after the car has been running, not cold. I just pulled over a little bit ago and popped the hood. It looks like it's comming from the air pump.
white smoke and coolant
Hey, im suffering the same problems, to an extent. I have a 94 R1, and i drive it casually to and from work, but usually, after every 4th-5th day (or week if i am on vacation), my coolant tank is litterally empty. It does this sporadically though, like one day of driving, it will run out, but then again 4 days of driving, then it runs out. I've heard rumors of the low quality air seperator tank, and am in the process of bying an all aluminum unit, just for piece of mind.
I was wondering if anyone has found any answers yet. I dont think it is a coolant seal in the motor, for the fact that if it were a faulty seal, wouldnt it have drained the collant in a day or so? The car does smoke white heavily, but only so once a month. . . any input?
any answers would greatly be appreciated.

edit: I forgot to mention, when i turn the heater on, it drains the coolant out even more quickly!
