Dash Cover/Cap for Cracked Dash. Very Impressed!

Thought I would post pics, as could not find much when I was researching this fix for a cracked dash. It really works! Out of the box fitted perfectly, no need for any trimming at all. Had it installed in an hour, dry and ready to drive in four hours. Got mine from Mazdatrix. Best $130 spent so far. Only one tiny quibble, and had to really look hard to find one…. Wish the reveals that mate into the vents far right and left side of the dash were deeper so you couldn’t see the edge. Then again I am only seeing it ‘cause I know it’s there.
and the pro tip… remove the steering wheel so you can slide the glued cover into place without having to wrestle it around the wheel.

Out of the box.

Out of the box.

Wedging everything in place whilst the glue dries. Mock this up with the unglued cap first so you can work out what you need and have it available before you start gluing.

Original dash.

Finished install.

Cracked dash.

Finished install.

If you squint really hard you can just see the edge of the cap inside the vent.

The fact that you don’t have to pull the dash makes this even more appeal appealing to me. I haven’t had any luck finding a S2 dash by me. It’s all S3.

The only problem I've seen with them is that when it's starts to get hot....the places that doesn't have any glue it will get warped...

You need to get glue all over the dash pad area to cover it completely and then install the cover to avoid warping......

it’s starting to get warm here, will report back. Instructions said to hit all the edges with glue, but leave the rest unglued to allow for thermal movement. Let’s see how that works in the sun.

Kit came with one 2.8oz tube of RTV to use as glue. That was just enough to glue all the edges. If someone were to decide to glue all surfaces I would buy an additional two or three tubes.

I think the dash cap looks fantastic!! It's an incredible alternative to replacing a near non existent dash top.
