Ported Wastegate

OK, so maybe I need a ported wastegate (boost creep). I don't see anyone on-line who sells one?

Anyone know of a manufacturer?

I would think that if this were a common need, I should be able to find one easy rather than make my own - with god knows what results.

You take yours to get machined if you have a stock one! Just have them open it up, while your at it might as well go non seq.

That's my point. I would think that if this is such a common need, then why isn't someone selling them - perhaps an opportunity for someone out there with machining skills?

As for going non-seq, thanks, but I have no interest.

The wastegate is an integral part of the turbo housing, you can't just sell them like they're a seperate part. Even so, the mod is so simple that the shipping would cost more than the machining.

IC, so this is something that would best be done while disassenbling/rebuilding the Turbos?

How do you know how much material is enough/too much to remove?

As I understand it, this (boost creep) is only a problem if your exhaust is too open. Maybe I should check for exhaust leaks? I don't hear anything different, but I think I will take a look.

Yes, it is best done when you have stuff apart. Until then you need to keep some restriction in the exhaust. If I remember correctly, the hole needs to be machined to 1.24" I eyeballed mine with a dremel and haven't had any problems -I just scribed a line in the metal where the wastegate door sits when closed and enlarged the hole until it met the line.

BTW, you shouldn't be getting creep with just a downpipe. How are you controlling boost?

You put your right foot down, you put your right foot up, you put your right foot down, then you look to your boost gauge...

I do the hokey-pokey...

To be serious, since I have owned the car - three years, I have been running right around 12 lbs (as displayed on the gauge). It is only recently that I have been seeing 15 lbs so I have to assume that something in the exhaust has opened itself up.

Or, as someone else suggested, perhaps my boost gauge has decided to check out. I was thinking about buying a vaccum gauge for my convertible, but before installing, I thought I'd run it in tandam with the boost gauge on the TT to see if they track together.

That may not give me a full diagnostic report of the boost gauge, but I would be able to see if it is even close, while buying something I need/want for the convertible.

The story continues...

Friday I started the car. There was a loud screeching noise that I am hoping was the drive belt. I have not heard it since.

I just ported my wastegate and didn't go as aggressive as some of you. I left probably around 1/8" smaller than the flap. Is that too much to leave? I was concerned because there are signs of previous cracking. Also, the flap moves around so I left a little bit of margin. What do you guys think? I already reinstalled the turbo assembly and don't really want to take it apart just to open up a little more if I don't need to.
