Need some electrical help! ECU wiring!

Ill post a few pics to go along with it, I got a JDM engine with the harnes, the harness was for a right hand drive car obviously, so I ran it to the other side of the engine to feed it through to my passanger side, that all worked out well. I have the ECU connected and now I have extra connectors lying around unconnected. My car was automatic and is now manual so my dash harness and every other harness is auto except for my manual engine harness.

I used this link https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...06#post2569106 to help me out but the only blue connector I have lying around has more than 11 pins and not 10. Any help is greatly appreciated as I would rather save money and do it myself than take it to a shop.

thanks in advance

thats the X-14 connector, it plugs to another white plug thats behind the glove box by where the harness comes out to the engine bay, i believe that some of the wires need to be swap in the connector since it was jspec harness plus auto.

I haven't got experience with the exact project you're doing (connecting a Japan-spec MT engine harness to a US-spec AT body harness). Personally
I would prefer to buy a good car and improve upon that, because I think it costs less in the end. You probably saved some money on the initial purchase price, but now you've got to successfully complete this big project in order to arrive at a decent starting point.

There is some very good info about the US-spec MT harnesses here: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/1993-front-harness-annotated-connector-pictures-892648/

Wiring work can be very daunting if you're not familiar with how to read schematics and which tools need to be used for the job. Half the battle is understanding what needs to go where. The Mazda schematics are reasonably clear and easy to follow. The ECU doesn't really care what color the wires in the harness are, or what connectors are used between the ECU and the device... the important thing is that each ECU pin gets connected to the correct device (sensor, solenoid, fuse, etc...).

Once you have a game plan with the ECU pins mapped out to the devices they need to connect to, you need the correct tools to make that happen. If you're lucky there will be a spare connector somewhere on your old harness that will mate (plug in) properly with the new harness that you want to use, and the old vs new connectors will be the same gender so you can simply de-pin and re-pin wires so everything matches up nicely. With less luck, you may need to do some cutting and splicing. Personally I'd advise against soldering if you have the right tools and supplies, but if your only other option is a cheapo yellow/blue/red plastic-covered butt splice and auto-part-store crimpers then it's sometimes the devil you know vs the devil you don't. Unfortunately it's not easy to learn or teach good wiring practices via the internet. If you have specific questions feel free to ask.

If none of the past few sentences made sense to you, it may be safer to find someone local who has successfully tackled a project of this scope. A not-quite-correct connection or shorted wire could make the car shut off randomly, hiccup when driving, or worst yet catch on fire.

Clip 1 Big *** a/t connector
Clip 2 Blue xo5 connector
Clip 3 X14 Manual E/M white male connector
Clip 4 A/T Dash harness

First off your missing the male male extension harness that plugs into the big *** blue clip at the top of the picture (clip1) (this is talked about in post 13 of tims thread)

I used that extension harness, plugged one male end into the a/t big *** blue connector (clip1), then snipped off the other male end on the extension harness.

Then I snipped off the smaller blue connector (clip2) in this picture and connected those wires to where you snipped the bigger male connector on the extension harness.

This way you can still seperate that connection without have to cut all the work your doing.

Another way is to just de pin the smaller blue connector and snip off the one larger male end then insert the pins into the larger connector. Then you dont have to do any soldering. I did it the other way just to have a bit more harness so its not so tight on the wires.

Note, for this next part there is also another smaller extension harness, as stated in the other thread posted by tim mcreary:

"There are two small harness connectors from the EM engine harness to the D dash harness that are identical to the EM harness (basically an extension of the harness). I took the connectors from the auto harness and carefully removed the pins from the manual harness. I reconfigured the manual wires into the Auto plug so it is now a "plug and play" as much as possible without having to cut and splice many wires." (more info can be found in post 14 of tims thread)

In my words:

The white female connector off the manual e/m harness (clip3) you have to wire into the female a/t body harness connector (clip4) up near the firewall where you ran the harness through.

If you have the a/t engine harness, de-pin that white connector so you have one empty male plug. Then de-pin the manual e/m harness white male plug (clip3). Insert those pins into the a/t harness plug you depinned earlier and youll have a plug and play harness. Connect this to the extension harness as quoted above and your good to go.

If you dont have that a/t harness plug from your auto engine harness youll need to wire directly the manual white e/m harness connector (clip3) wires into the auto body harness connector (clip4) by snipping both connectors off and running wires.

The small black connector (clip5) is for the a/t trans control box, not used anymore.

There will be some leftover wires, the only ones you need connected are stated in the thread by tim mcreary. All this was done from memory, but im almost 100 percent certain it is correct.

Hey guys so I went to the garage today after printing out all the pictures and diagrams for the wiring and I am indeed missing the male extension harness, now does anyone know where I can get that or do I have to buy an entire harness?? Help greatly appreciated as I want to start my car before going back to school!!

It looks like your missing two extension harnesses:

1. the one male/male with 2 big blue connectors

2. a smaller one with 2 white female/female connectors

are they perhaps still connected to your auto engine harness or connected to the auto ecu?

if not maybe call up ray crowe at malloy mazda, hes the go to guy around here and should be able to find it if you can order it seperately. Otherwise youll just have to hardwire it in and if the time comes to ever remove the engine harness youll just have to cut those connections.
