it really scares me every time I see a post like this. Like the one where the guys father died because they went out for a casual father son cruise and his father lost control and the FD went into a Louisianan swamp, the son got out but that was the last he saw of his father. Very sad. It reminds me of me and my Dad. I feel I am the better driver sometimes because how crazy he drives sometimes and how he might just "lose it" one day because of him growing older. Sometimes this car scares me shitless.

I'm surprised at how many people you DONT hear of dying though. I see alot of "wrecked the FD" threads but still no one gets injured to bad. Surprising for a car to be that small and still people survive crashes like this.

I have only been very sleepy behind the wheel. I was going to stop at the next stop anyways so I let my brother drive. It scares me to pull off a road onto the shoulder and take a nap because their could be another driver that is sleepy, or possibly drunk and veer off of the road to rear end me and probably kill me that way instead because I would not even see it coming or react.

You've set up a typical straw man argument (and not been very good at it).
I never said everyone who uses cruise control falls asleep at the wheel. It's just like smoking in bed. Not everyone who smokes in bed dies in a fire. But it can be a dangerous practice. And it's not the only one. Someone else made a good point earlier in this thread. With cruise control engaged, if you fall asleep at the wheel, as happened in this case, you don't even get the option of slowing down before
before your vehicle inevitably hits a tree or some other object.

Before this goes on any longer:

How many things can make you more relaxed and comfortable? The seats are comfortable. Very supportive. Guess we better not use those. Milk crates it is.
The radio might play some sort of classical Mozart... and that could be relaxing... so we better get rid of the radio. Wait, that leather wrapped steering wheel feels soft to the touch... Break out the razor blade and 100 Grit.

The human body responds more to PHYSICAL relaxation than it does to the lack of mental stimulation. cruise control only removes one mental trigger.... how far to push to go how fast. Think of the number of mental stimuli that are around you... even with cruise control on. Learn a little bit more about human sleep properties.. and THEN argue your moot point.

ANYTHING could be considered dangerous using your logic. Drop the topic.

wow I had missed this thread.

1) Glad you were ok, that was some serious damage on that FD.

2) Cruise control: a must when taking long trips.

3) We have all been there bro. Fighting to stay awake while driving. I've had to literally slap myself in order to pep up.

4) there are some dumbass inconsiderate people on this thread.

The fact that you came out of that without any major injuries is a miracle. Sounds to me like you had a ton of good karma waiting to cash in.

Cars can be replaced/fixed... people can't.

Be safe and I am glad you are ok.

you know man your right there are but oh well ...
i started this thread to show pictures of my car after i wrecked it not to start this seemingly endless debate on the dangers of cruise control and the fact it has gone on this long is ...to say the least mind numbing
